More than 100 aspirants participated in this event to network, learn, and share their ideas with the prominent entrepreneurs of the country.

President of Vaidhya’s Orgaization of Industries and Trading Industries (VOITH), Suraj Vaidhya, served as a keynote speaker for the event. Expressing the importance of learning in one’s life, Vaidhya said, “You never stop learning. Life is like a cycle, the moment you stop, you fall, that’s the same case with running a business. So, never stop learning, innovating and taking new risks.”

Separated into three different panels that had a unique story to tell to the audience, CEO Unplugged’s first panel conversed on the topic of ‘Future of SMEs of Nepal’.

Sushama Sharma, first vice-president of NWC; Sixit Bhatta, CEO of Tootle; and Sunita Nhemaphuki, co-founder of R&D Innovative Solutions were the panelists.

When asked about whether the recent data on the rate of agriculture contributing to economy being reduced is correct or not, Nhemaphuki stated, “The data might be correct to some extend because in Nepal, the main problem is that our production doesn’t meet our consumption pattern. For example, we produce corns but there is high demand for pop-corn. Hence, this creates lack of market for our agricultural productions and the data decrease. But if we all jointly work to uplift the market status for agriculture, it won’t take any time longer to let the same curve move upward.”

Likewise, Sharma said,” The things have changed from the past. Nowadays, the government has come up with the policies of more subsidies. The interest rate for loans has drastically changed and now, entrepreneurs with good ideas can access the loan with minimal collateral.”

The millennial of the panel had Rohit Tiwari, Founder, Foodmario as the moderator.

The second panel discussion on ‘Business Coalition of SDGs’ had the three panel members including Renaud Meyer (Country Director, UNDP); Anukool Bhatnagar (CEO and MD, Nepal SBI Bank) and Sudhakar Jayaram (CEO, Nepal Mediciti Hospital) and moderated by Asish Thakur (Executive Director, Glocal Pvt Ltd).

UNDP Country Director Renaud Meyer held the view that SDGs won’t be achieved without businesses.

“People should not be waiting for the government to change the nation but it is the people who should become the catalyst of change. SDGs are not to be taken as a program but should be taken as day to day activities,” he said.

The final panel discussion was on the topic of ‘Practice of Skill Based Education’.

Diptee Acharya, director of Sanskriti International School; Samir Thapa, executive chairman of Silver Mountain and Saurabh Jyoti, director of Jyoti Group were the panelists.

Saurabh Jyoti, the Director of Jyoti Group shared his intake in the literacy rate of Nepal as, “The data shows the literacy rate of Nepal around 65 percent. But, if we look at the real case scenario of the market, the employability rate among these individuals is way too less. The reason behind this is that, today, the companies don’t hire the employees on the basis of their paper degree. Soft skills are what the industry is searching for. So, being literate doesn’t guarantee the employability if you don’t possess the personality and soft skills.”

Likewise, when asked about the skills that are in demand, the director of Sanskriti International School, Diptee Acharya said, “Today’s youth shouldn’t have the misconception that a good education background can let you have a settled life. The main competencies that are in demand are critical thinking, empathy, communication and ability to cope up with stress. And our educational institutions should be responsible to offer it all.”

Similarly, Samir Thapa, CEO of Silver Mountain mentioned the importance of industrial driven curriculum in Nepal. He said, “What our educational institutions are making mistake is that they are creating the fancy and sellable curriculum. This means, we are way to back to create sellable employees for the market. Our industries seek the people who can perform the designated jobs and for this, industrial driven curriculum is a must.”

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-01-11', 'modified' => '2019-01-11', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '9569', 'image' => '20190111023511_ceo.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-01-11 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => false, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '9793', 'article_category_id' => '266', 'title' => 'Prabhu Bank Launches PBL Mastercard Debit Card', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'January 11: Prabhu Bank Ltd (PBL), in partnership with Mastercard, has introduced PBL Mastercard – a standard domestic debit card – to provide seamless, safe and secure digital payment solutions for the bank’s customers.', 'content' => '
January 11: Prabhu Bank Ltd (PBL), in partnership with Mastercard, has introduced PBL Mastercard – a standard domestic debit card – to provide seamless, safe and secure digital payment solutions for the bank’s customers.

Mastercard is a technology company in the global payments industry with a network that connects consumers, financial institutions, merchants, governments and businesses in more than 210 countries and territories.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-01-11', 'modified' => '2019-01-11', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '9569', 'image' => '20190111023511_ceo.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-01-11 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => false, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '9793', 'article_category_id' => '266', 'title' => 'Prabhu Bank Launches PBL Mastercard Debit Card', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'January 11: Prabhu Bank Ltd (PBL), in partnership with Mastercard, has introduced PBL Mastercard – a standard domestic debit card – to provide seamless, safe and secure digital payment solutions for the bank’s customers.', 'content' => '

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-01-11', 'modified' => '2019-01-11', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '9569', 'image' => '20190111023511_ceo.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-01-11 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => false, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '9793', 'article_category_id' => '266', 'title' => 'Prabhu Bank Launches PBL Mastercard Debit Card', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'January 11: Prabhu Bank Ltd (PBL), in partnership with Mastercard, has introduced PBL Mastercard – a standard domestic debit card – to provide seamless, safe and secure digital payment solutions for the bank’s customers.', 'content' => '

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-01-11', 'modified' => '2019-01-11', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '9569', 'image' => '20190111023511_ceo.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-01-11 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => false, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '9793', 'article_category_id' => '266', 'title' => 'Prabhu Bank Launches PBL Mastercard Debit Card', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'January 11: Prabhu Bank Ltd (PBL), in partnership with Mastercard, has introduced PBL Mastercard – a standard domestic debit card – to provide seamless, safe and secure digital payment solutions for the bank’s customers.', 'content' => '

But these days, people have started staying back home after making necessary arrangements to keep themselves warm.

A few years ago, Taplejung used to witness snowfall since October-November but this time the district had to wait till December to witness the first snowfall.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-01-10', 'modified' => '2019-01-10', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '9558', 'image' => '20190110022730_hiu photo.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-01-10 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 13 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '9783', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Stakeholders Call for New Act to Facilitate Investment', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'January 10: Stakeholders have said that the draft bill on industrial enterprises should be oriented toward facilitating and promoting investment rather than regulating and controlling enterprises.', 'content' => '
January 10: Stakeholders have said that the draft bill on industrial enterprises should be oriented toward facilitating and promoting investment rather than regulating and controlling enterprises.

A press statement issued by the Society of Economic Journalists of Nepal (SEJON) says that economists, business leaders and former bureaucrats attending a roundtable discussion on the draft bill expressed concerns that the new industrial enterprises act should provide incentives to the enterprises in Nepal to help increase the industrial contribution to the gross domestic product.

According to SEJON, it organised the roundtable discussion on ‘Industrial Enterprises Bill (Draft)’ in collaboration with Economic Policy Incubator and UKaid in the capital on Wednesday, January 9.

Their call for provisions facilitating the industrial investments comes in the wake of the preparation of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to give a final touch to the new Industrial Enterprises Bill that will replace the existing Industrial Enterprises Act that was enacted in 2016.

“The draft bill has proposed stricter provisions for fine and punishment even for committing a minor offence,” the statement quoted Shekhar Golchha, senior vice president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), as saying.

Golchha said that the provision related to corporate social responsibility and classification of industries, among others, should be revisited for the promotion of industrial sector in the country.

Also speaking at the discussion, Hari Bhakta Sharma, president of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries, said that the law should be the most liberal law in the South Asia region to attract investment in the country.

“If we see other countries, including states of our neighboring country India, they are moving aggressively toward providing incentives to their industries. If our law does not take into consideration those developments, we cannot promote investment in industrial sector,” said Sharma.

Among others, he urged the government to change the provision that put restriction on selling the land bought by industrialists for setting up industry. He also said that it will be very onerous for industries, mostly small and medium level industries, to share their data with the Department of Industries in every six months as stated in the draft bill of the act.

According to SEJON, Dr Shankar Sharma, former vice chairperson of the National Planning Commission, underlined the need of strong coordination between various government agencies for the effective implementation of the act.

“There are several good provisions in the draft bill despite some weaknesses. But, the key to the effective implementation is the strong coordination between government agencies,” added Sharma.

Yam Kumari Khatiwada, the secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, said that the new draft bill focuses on further simplifying the process of entry, operation and exit of industrial enterprise in the country.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-01-10', 'modified' => '2019-01-10', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '9557', 'image' => '20190110011538_sejon.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-01-10 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 14 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '9782', 'article_category_id' => '266', 'title' => 'Premier Steel now Available in Market', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'January 10: Premier Steel Pvt Ltd has announced the sale and distribution of its products in eastern Nepal.', 'content' => '
January 10: Premier Steel Pvt Ltd has announced the sale and distribution of its products in eastern Nepal.
