The company claimed that the flash charging technology is being used by over 100 million smartphone users worldwide.</div>

	The&nbsp; certification has ensured the safety of VOOC boosting the charging power to a massive 50W (10V 5A). With the Super VOOC technology, smartphones will be able to charge to up to 40 percent in just 10 minutes, reads a press statement issued by the company.</div>

	OPPO claimed that the technology also provides five-core protection which checks the safety level while charging. The statement further said that all nodes including the charging plug, USB cable, mobile phone, and battery are separately protected by specialized chips.</div>

	To provide a superior mobile experience to global users through technological innovation, OPPO said it had undertaken multiple rigorous testing standards and sessions including 1,000 trial tests, 600 independent fast-charge/discharge battery life tests, 10,000 hot plug tests on charging terminals, battery and charging cycle tests for months to ensure its safety for daily use.</div>

	According to Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), spokesperson of MWSP Rajendra Prasad Panta said that the project is preparing to scrap the contract with CMC di Ravanna for tunnel construction and entrusting the responsibilities to carry on the remaining works of the project to subsidiary construction companies as it would take a while to call for tender.</p>
<p>
	Of the tunnel measuring 27.5 kilometres from Ambathan of Sindhupalchowk to Sundarjal of Kathmandu, only 410 metres of tunnel require finishing touches, shared Panta.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, 885 metres of tunnel await RCC works and two of the three ventilators are yet to be rebuilt, according to a news report published by RSS.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;Ventilation has been made in the tunnel stretching from Gyalthum to Ambathan while drilling needs to be done for ventilations from tunnel spanning from Sundarijal to Sindhu and Sindhu to Gyalthum,&rdquo; RSS said.</p>
<p>
	Installation of GI pipe to bring water from the outlet of the tunnel at Sundarijal to water processing centre is also left to be carried out.</p>
<p>
	According to RSS, the project is holding further consultations with the stakeholders to expedite the works.</p>
<p>
	MWSP said it would wait for 14 days for response from the Italian construction company before scrapping the contract. Works relating to the project would be forwarded from February 2, according to the project.</p>

	Issuing a statement, the World Bank said its senior country economist, Kene Ezemenari, presented a synopsis of the bank&rsquo;s analysis of latest macroeconomic and development updates</p>

	During the interaction, the World Banks country director for Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal, Qimiao Fan, said that the country&rsquo;s path of nation-building and sustainable development relies on sound policies and institutions, and the Parliament is key in ensuring that these are both in place.</p>

	&nbsp;&ldquo;These engagements with the representatives of the people of Nepal are a key part of our role and responsibility as trusted partners in Nepal. They allow us to exchange ideas, and to better understand the vision of the Nepali people in reducing extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity. It also allows us to share experiences on development narratives from the rest of the world,&rdquo; said Qimiao Fan, World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.</p>

	A division bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana and justice Iswar Prasad Khatiwada issued the order on Thursday, January 17, quashing an earlier order that granted permission for the company to operate the service.</p>
<p>
	Earlier on December 25, senior-most justice Deepak Raj Joshi had issued an interim order allowing CG to operate telecom service.</p>
<p>
	The latest order of the apex court has halted the operation of the company owned by billionaire industrialist Binod Chaudhary with immediate effect. The Supreme Court&rsquo;s order comes in response to a petition filed by Nepal Telecommunication Authority to halt the service.</p>
<p>
	In the petition, NTA has said CG Communication&rsquo;s claim that it has acquired license to operate mobile service is false. NTA clarified that it had granted permission to CG Telecom some 15 years ago to provide rural telecom service only in 16 districts of the then eastern development region of the country.</p>

	The government had formed a taskforce comprising of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun, Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada and Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Board Nepal, Maha Prasad Adhikari, regarding how to proceed ahead with the project. The taskforce has not prepared any report till date.</p>
<p>
	Talking to RSS, the board&rsquo;s CEO Adhikari said that the report is in the final stages of preparation and it would be presented in the board meeting in a few days. The report is being prepared under the coordination of Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dinesh Kumar Ghimire.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, the overall progress of another national pride project &ndash; Budhigandaki Hydroelectricity Project &ndash; is 9.9 per cent. This project is much talked about since the last five years. According to RSS, the task of distributing compensation for the land acquired for the project is in progress. However, the compensation for the land at Arughat Bazar of Gorkha and Khahare Bazar of Dhading district has not been determined as yet.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, around 97 per cent works of another national pride project, Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, has been completed but its remaining work has not taken any momentum after the hydro mechanical contractor could not carry out stipulated works of the project.</p>
<p>
	The 456-MW project has made preparation to produce electricity commercially by coming mid-November.</p>
<p>
	Likewise, there is also problem in Sikta Irrigation Project. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has filed case against the project after contractors, consultants and technical staff of the project were not found fulfilling their responsibilities. The overall progress of the project, which is under construction for the past 12 years, is around 56 per cent.</p>

	Releasing a report on the current macroeconomic and financial situation of Nepal on Thursday, the central bank said that the country saw a moderate inflation during the review period due to marginal increase in the price of food and beverage group.</p>
<p>
	According to the report based on five months of the current fiscal year, food and beverage inflation moderated to 0.5 percent in mid-December 2018 compared to 2.8 percent a year ago while the non-food and service inflation stood at 6.3 percent in mid-December 2018 compared to 5.3 percent a year ago.</p>
<p>
	Likewise, the salary and wage rate index increased 9.3 percent in mid-December 2018 from 6.1 percent a year ago. In the review period, the salary index and the wage rate index increased 6.6 percent and 10.1 percent respectively.</p>
<p>
	&nbsp;The country&rsquo;s export in five months of 2018/19 increased 11.2 percent to Rs 37.50 billion compared to an increase of 10.1 percent a year ago, the report further said. Destination-wise, exports to India and other countries increased 20.7 percent and 3 percent respectively, whereas exports to China decreased 30.7 percent. Mainly exports of polyester yarn, zinc sheet, woolen carpet, pulses, readymade garments, pashmina, jute goods, among others, increased, whereas exports of cardamom, rosin, tanned skin, shoes and sandals, among others, decreased in the review period.</p>

	In the review period, the central bank said that the country&rsquo;s merchandise imports increased 34.2 percent to Rs 607 billion compared to an increase of 18.2 percent a year ago. Destination-wise, imports from India, China and other countries increased 31.7 percent, 47.7 percent and 33.7 percent respectively. Commodity-wise, imports of petroleum products, vehicle and spare parts, aircraft spare parts, MS billet, machinery and parts, vegetables, fruits and rice, among others, increased whereas imports of telecommunication equipment and parts, crude soybean oil, cement, medical equipment and tools, among others, decreased in the review period.</p>

Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) reported that the department is soliciting support from all sectors to install the charging stations.</p>

	RSS said that people have shown interest in electric vehicles of late, boosting the sale of such vehicles especially in the valley. But there aren&rsquo;t adequate charging stations.</p>
<p>
	In the first phase, a charging station will be constructed soon on the premises of Sajha Yatayat station in Pulchok, said an official at the department.</p>
<p>
	All types of vehicles, big or small, can be charged from the station, said Bhushan Tuladhar, member of Sajha Yatayat Board of Directors.</p>
<p>
	&quot;The process in this regard has started. Five charging stations will be built within the FY after identifying convenient areas,&quot; RSS quoted the Director General for the Department, Jhalak Ram Adhikari, as saying. The project concept will be created soon after holding discussions with concerned entrepreneurs and stakeholders, he added.</p>

	Nepal Electricity Authority has urged the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation to create a legal framework to address the security concerns and amount to be charged for the customers.</p>

	President of Independent Power Producers&#39; Association Shailendra Guragain said a charging station for electric vehicles could be set up within one or two months if legal grounds were created. The drive should be expanded across the country, he said.</p>

	According to Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), spokesperson of MWSP Rajendra Prasad Panta said that the project is preparing to scrap the contract with CMC di Ravanna for tunnel construction and entrusting the responsibilities to carry on the remaining works of the project to subsidiary construction companies as it would take a while to call for tender.</p>
<p>
	Of the tunnel measuring 27.5 kilometres from Ambathan of Sindhupalchowk to Sundarjal of Kathmandu, only 410 metres of tunnel require finishing touches, shared Panta.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, 885 metres of tunnel await RCC works and two of the three ventilators are yet to be rebuilt, according to a news report published by RSS.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;Ventilation has been made in the tunnel stretching from Gyalthum to Ambathan while drilling needs to be done for ventilations from tunnel spanning from Sundarijal to Sindhu and Sindhu to Gyalthum,&rdquo; RSS said.</p>
<p>
	Installation of GI pipe to bring water from the outlet of the tunnel at Sundarijal to water processing centre is also left to be carried out.</p>
<p>
	According to RSS, the project is holding further consultations with the stakeholders to expedite the works.</p>
<p>
	MWSP said it would wait for 14 days for response from the Italian construction company before scrapping the contract. Works relating to the project would be forwarded from February 2, according to the project.</p>

	&nbsp;&ldquo;These engagements with the representatives of the people of Nepal are a key part of our role and responsibility as trusted partners in Nepal. 	A division bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana and justice Iswar Prasad Khatiwada issued the order on Thursday, January 17, quashing an earlier order that granted permission for the company to operate the service.</p>
<p>
	Earlier on December 25, senior-most justice Deepak Raj Joshi had issued an interim order allowing CG to operate telecom service.</p>
<p>
	The latest order of the apex court has halted the operation of the company owned by billionaire industrialist Binod Chaudhary with immediate effect. The Supreme Court&rsquo;s order comes in response to a petition filed by Nepal Telecommunication Authority to halt the service.</p>
<p>
	In the petition, NTA has said CG Communication&rsquo;s claim that it has acquired license to operate mobile service is false. NTA clarified that it had granted permission to CG Telecom some 15 years ago to provide rural telecom service only in 16 districts of the then eastern development region of the country.</p>

	January 18: Most of the projects prioritized by the government as the &lsquo;projects of national pride&rsquo; except a few are found not to be making meaningful progress, according to a news report published by Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS).</p>

	According to RSS, the status of the performance of rest of the projects except the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project is not satisfactory. The government has listed 21 projects as the &lsquo;national pride projects&rsquo;.</p>
<p>
	A report prepared by the National Planning Commission (NPC) shows that the West Seti Hydro- electricity Project has not made any progress till now. The progress of this project remains almost nil since 21 years.</p>
<p>
	A Chinese company named Three Gorges which was said to promote this project has returned citing differences on some technical issues.</p>
<p>
	The government had formed a taskforce comprising of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun, Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada and Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Board Nepal, Maha Prasad Adhikari, regarding how to proceed ahead with the project. The taskforce has not prepared any report till date.</p>
<p>
	Talking to RSS, the board&rsquo;s CEO Adhikari said that the report is in the final stages of preparation and it would be presented in the board meeting in a few days. The report is being prepared under the coordination of Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dinesh Kumar Ghimire.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, the overall progress of another national pride project &ndash; Budhigandaki Hydroelectricity Project &ndash; is 9.9 per cent. This project is much talked about since the last five years. According to RSS, the task of distributing compensation for the land acquired for the project is in progress. However, the compensation for the land at Arughat Bazar of Gorkha and Khahare Bazar of Dhading district has not been determined as yet.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, around 97 per cent works of another national pride project, Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, has been completed but its remaining work has not taken any momentum after the hydro mechanical contractor could not carry out stipulated works of the project.</p>
<p>
	The 456-MW project has made preparation to produce electricity commercially by coming mid-November.</p>
<p>
	Likewise, there is also problem in Sikta Irrigation Project. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has filed case against the project after contractors, consultants and technical staff of the project were not found fulfilling their responsibilities. The overall progress of the project, which is under construction for the past 12 years, is around 56 per cent.</p>

	Releasing a report on the current macroeconomic and financial situation of Nepal on Thursday, the central bank said that the country saw a moderate inflation during the review period due to marginal increase in the price of food and beverage group.</p>
<p>
	According to the report based on five months of the current fiscal year, food and beverage inflation moderated to 0.5 percent in mid-December 2018 compared to 2.8 percent a year ago while the non-food and service inflation stood at 6.3 percent in mid-December 2018 compared to 5.3 percent a year ago.</p>
<p>
	Likewise, the salary and wage rate index increased 9.3 percent in mid-December 2018 from 6.1 percent a year ago. In the review period, the salary index and the wage rate index increased 6.6 percent and 10.1 percent respectively.</p>
<p>
	&nbsp;The country&rsquo;s export in five months of 2018/19 increased 11.2 percent to Rs 37.50 billion compared to an increase of 10.1 percent a year ago, the report further said. Destination-wise, exports to India and other countries increased 20.7 percent and 3 percent respectively, whereas exports to China decreased 30.7 percent. Mainly exports of polyester yarn, zinc sheet, woolen carpet, pulses, readymade garments, pashmina, jute goods, among others, increased, whereas exports of cardamom, rosin, tanned skin, shoes and sandals, among others, decreased in the review period.</p>
<p>
	In the review period, the central bank said that the country&rsquo;s merchandise imports increased 34.2 percent to Rs 607 billion compared to an increase of 18.2 percent a year ago. Destination-wise, imports from India, China and other countries increased 31.7 percent, 47.7 percent and 33.7 percent respectively. Commodity-wise, imports of petroleum products, vehicle and spare parts, aircraft spare parts, MS billet, machinery and parts, vegetables, fruits and rice, among others, increased whereas imports of telecommunication equipment and parts, crude soybean oil, cement, medical equipment and tools, among others, decreased in the review period.</p>

	RSS said that people have shown interest in electric vehicles of late, boosting the sale of such vehicles especially in the valley. But there aren&rsquo;t adequate charging stations.</p>
<p>
	In the first phase, a charging station will be constructed soon on the premises of Sajha Yatayat station in Pulchok, said an official at the department.</p>
<p>
	All types of vehicles, big or small, can be charged from the station, said Bhushan Tuladhar, member of Sajha Yatayat Board of Directors.</p>
<p>
	&quot;The process in this regard has started. Five charging stations will be built within the FY after identifying convenient areas,&quot; RSS quoted the Director General for the Department, Jhalak Ram Adhikari, as saying. The project concept will be created soon after holding discussions with concerned entrepreneurs and stakeholders, he added.</p>

	Nepal Electricity Authority has urged the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation to create a legal framework to address the security concerns and amount to be charged for the customers.</p>

	President of Independent Power Producers&#39; Association Shailendra Guragain said a charging station for electric vehicles could be set up within one or two months if legal grounds were created. The drive should be expanded across the country, he said.</p>

	Of the tunnel measuring 27.5 kilometres from Ambathan of Sindhupalchowk to Sundarjal of Kathmandu, only 410 metres of tunnel require finishing touches, shared Panta.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, 885 metres of tunnel await RCC works and two of the three ventilators are yet to be rebuilt, according to a news report published by RSS.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;Ventilation has been made in the tunnel stretching from Gyalthum to Ambathan while drilling needs to be done for ventilations from tunnel spanning from Sundarijal to Sindhu and Sindhu to Gyalthum,&rdquo; RSS said.</p>
<p>
	Installation of GI pipe to bring water from the outlet of the tunnel at Sundarijal to water processing centre is also left to be carried out.</p>
<p>
	According to RSS, the project is holding further consultations with the stakeholders to expedite the works.</p>
<p>
	MWSP said it would wait for 14 days for response from the Italian construction company before scrapping the contract. Works relating to the project would be forwarded from February 2, according to the project.</p>

	Earlier on December 25, senior-most justice Deepak Raj Joshi had issued an interim order allowing CG to operate telecom service.</p>
<p>
	The latest order of the apex court has halted the operation of the company owned by billionaire industrialist Binod Chaudhary with immediate effect. The Supreme Court&rsquo;s order comes in response to a petition filed by Nepal Telecommunication Authority to halt the service.</p>
<p>
	In the petition, NTA has said CG Communication&rsquo;s claim that it has acquired license to operate mobile service is false. NTA clarified that it had granted permission to CG Telecom some 15 years ago to provide rural telecom service only in 16 districts of the then eastern development region of the country.</p>

	According to RSS, the status of the performance of rest of the projects except the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project is not satisfactory. The government has listed 21 projects as the &lsquo;national pride projects&rsquo;.</p>
<p>
	A report prepared by the National Planning Commission (NPC) shows that the West Seti Hydro- electricity Project has not made any progress till now. The progress of this project remains almost nil since 21 years.</p>
<p>
	A Chinese company named Three Gorges which was said to promote this project has returned citing differences on some technical issues.</p>
<p>
	The government had formed a taskforce comprising of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun, Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada and Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Board Nepal, Maha Prasad Adhikari, regarding how to proceed ahead with the project. The taskforce has not prepared any report till date.</p>
<p>
	Talking to RSS, the board&rsquo;s CEO Adhikari said that the report is in the final stages of preparation and it would be presented in the board meeting in a few days. The report is being prepared under the coordination of Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dinesh Kumar Ghimire.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, the overall progress of another national pride project &ndash; Budhigandaki Hydroelectricity Project &ndash; is 9.9 per cent. This project is much talked about since the last five years. According to RSS, the task of distributing compensation for the land acquired for the project is in progress. However, the compensation for the land at Arughat Bazar of Gorkha and Khahare Bazar of Dhading district has not been determined as yet.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, around 97 per cent works of another national pride project, Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, has been completed but its remaining work has not taken any momentum after the hydro mechanical contractor could not carry out stipulated works of the project.</p>
<p>
	The 456-MW project has made preparation to produce electricity commercially by coming mid-November.</p>
<p>
	Likewise, there is also problem in Sikta Irrigation Project. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has filed case against the project after contractors, consultants and technical staff of the project were not found fulfilling their responsibilities. The overall progress of the project, which is under construction for the past 12 years, is around 56 per cent.</p>

	Releasing a report on the current macroeconomic and financial situation of Nepal on Thursday, the central bank said that the country saw a moderate inflation during the review period due to marginal increase in the price of food and beverage group.</p>
<p>
	According to the report based on five months of the current fiscal year, food and beverage inflation moderated to 0.5 percent in mid-December 2018 compared to 2.8 percent a year ago while the non-food and service inflation stood at 6.3 percent in mid-December 2018 compared to 5.3 percent a year ago.</p>
<p>
	Likewise, the salary and wage rate index increased 9.3 percent in mid-December 2018 from 6.1 percent a year ago. In the review period, the salary index and the wage rate index increased 6.6 percent and 10.1 percent respectively.</p>
<p>
	&nbsp;The country&rsquo;s export in five months of 2018/19 increased 11.2 percent to Rs 37.50 billion compared to an increase of 10.1 percent a year ago, the report further said. Destination-wise, exports to India and other countries increased 20.7 percent and 3 percent respectively, whereas exports to China decreased 30.7 percent. Mainly exports of polyester yarn, zinc sheet, woolen carpet, pulses, readymade garments, pashmina, jute goods, among others, increased, whereas exports of cardamom, rosin, tanned skin, shoes and sandals, among others, decreased in the review period.</p>
<p>
	In the review period, the central bank said that the country&rsquo;s merchandise imports increased 34.2 percent to Rs 607 billion compared to an increase of 18.2 percent a year ago. Destination-wise, imports from India, China and other countries increased 31.7 percent, 47.7 percent and 33.7 percent respectively. Commodity-wise, imports of petroleum products, vehicle and spare parts, aircraft spare parts, MS billet, machinery and parts, vegetables, fruits and rice, among others, increased whereas imports of telecommunication equipment and parts, crude soybean oil, cement, medical equipment and tools, among others, decreased in the review period.</p>

	January 18: The Department of Environment is set to build five charging stations for electric vehicles in the Kathmandu Valley within the current fiscal year 2018/19. Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) reported that the department is soliciting support from all sectors to install the charging stations.</p>
<p>
	RSS said that people have shown interest in electric vehicles of late, boosting the sale of such vehicles especially in the valley. But there aren&rsquo;t adequate charging stations.</p>
<p>
	In the first phase, a charging station will be constructed soon on the premises of Sajha Yatayat station in Pulchok, said an official at the department.</p>
<p>
	All types of vehicles, big or small, can be charged from the station, said Bhushan Tuladhar, member of Sajha Yatayat Board of Directors.</p>
<p>
	&quot;The process in this regard has started. Five charging stations will be built within the FY after identifying convenient areas,&quot; RSS quoted the Director General for the Department, Jhalak Ram Adhikari, as saying. The project concept will be created soon after holding discussions with concerned entrepreneurs and stakeholders, he added.</p>
<p>
	Nepal Electricity Authority has urged the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation to create a legal framework to address the security concerns and amount to be charged for the customers.</p>
<p>
	President of Independent Power Producers&#39; Association Shailendra Guragain said a charging station for electric vehicles could be set up within one or two months if legal grounds were created. The drive should be expanded across the country, he said.</p>

	According to Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), spokesperson of MWSP Rajendra Prasad Panta said that the project is preparing to scrap the contract with CMC di Ravanna for tunnel construction and entrusting the responsibilities to carry on the remaining works of the project to subsidiary construction companies as it would take a while to call for tender.</p>
<p>
	Of the tunnel measuring 27.5 kilometres from Ambathan of Sindhupalchowk to Sundarjal of Kathmandu, only 410 metres of tunnel require finishing touches, shared Panta.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, 885 metres of tunnel await RCC works and two of the three ventilators are yet to be rebuilt, according to a news report published by RSS.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;Ventilation has been made in the tunnel stretching from Gyalthum to Ambathan while drilling needs to be done for ventilations from tunnel spanning from Sundarijal to Sindhu and Sindhu to Gyalthum,&rdquo; RSS said.</p>
<p>
	Installation of GI pipe to bring water from the outlet of the tunnel at Sundarijal to water processing centre is also left to be carried out.</p>
<p>
	According to RSS, the project is holding further consultations with the stakeholders to expedite the works.</p>
<p>
	MWSP said it would wait for 14 days for response from the Italian construction company before scrapping the contract. Works relating to the project would be forwarded from February 2, according to the project.</p>

	Issuing a statement, the World Bank said its senior country economist, Kene Ezemenari, presented a synopsis of the bank&rsquo;s analysis of latest macroeconomic and development updates</p>

	During the interaction, the World Banks country director for Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal, Qimiao Fan, said that the country&rsquo;s path of nation-building and sustainable development relies on sound policies and institutions, and the Parliament is key in ensuring that these are both in place.</p>
<p>
	&nbsp;&ldquo;These engagements with the representatives of the people of Nepal are a key part of our role and responsibility as trusted partners in Nepal. They allow us to exchange ideas, and to better understand the vision of the Nepali people in reducing extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity. It also allows us to share experiences on development narratives from the rest of the world,&rdquo; said Qimiao Fan, World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.</p>

	&ldquo;The program was a great opportunity to understand the World Bank Group operations and explore avenues of cooperation and support in the days to come,&rdquo; the statement quoted Krishna Prasad Dahal, chairperson of the parliamentary Finance Committee, as saying.</p>

	&ldquo;Extensive sharing of data, information and practical knowledge will help pinpoint the direction of future policies and refine our responsibilities as lawmakers,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	&nbsp;The World Bank said it is engaging Nepal&rsquo;s Parliament in various ways. Through the Integrated Public Financial Management (PFM) Project supported by the multi-donor trust fund (financed by Australia, Switzerland, DFID, EU, Norway and USAID), the World Bank is currently supporting the Parliament of Nepal through strengthening of the PFM capacity of technical staff in the Secretariat.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;Knowledge exchange opportunities will be provided to MPs within this program. Provincial Parliaments will also be progressively targeted since they can benefit from the expertise of the federal Parliament to build their own.&rdquo;</p>

	January 18: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order to CG Telecom to stop operation of mobile telecommunication service.</p>
<p>
	A division bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana and justice Iswar Prasad Khatiwada issued the order on Thursday, January 17, quashing an earlier order that granted permission for the company to operate the service.</p>
<p>
	Earlier on December 25, senior-most justice Deepak Raj Joshi had issued an interim order allowing CG to operate telecom service.</p>
<p>
	The latest order of the apex court has halted the operation of the company owned by billionaire industrialist Binod Chaudhary with immediate effect. The Supreme Court&rsquo;s order comes in response to a petition filed by Nepal Telecommunication Authority to halt the service.</p>
<p>
	In the petition, NTA has said CG Communication&rsquo;s claim that it has acquired license to operate mobile service is false. NTA clarified that it had granted permission to CG Telecom some 15 years ago to provide rural telecom service only in 16 districts of the then eastern development region of the country.</p>

	January 18: Most of the projects prioritized by the government as the &lsquo;projects of national pride&rsquo; except a few are found not to be making meaningful progress, according to a news report published by Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS).</p>
<p>
	According to RSS, the status of the performance of rest of the projects except the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project is not satisfactory. The government has listed 21 projects as the &lsquo;national pride projects&rsquo;.</p>
<p>
	A report prepared by the National Planning Commission (NPC) shows that the West Seti Hydro- electricity Project has not made any progress till now. The progress of this project remains almost nil since 21 years.</p>
<p>
	A Chinese company named Three Gorges which was said to promote this project has returned citing differences on some technical issues.</p>
<p>
	The government had formed a taskforce comprising of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun, Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada and Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Board Nepal, Maha Prasad Adhikari, regarding how to proceed ahead with the project. The taskforce has not prepared any report till date.</p>
<p>
	Talking to RSS, the board&rsquo;s CEO Adhikari said that the report is in the final stages of preparation and it would be presented in the board meeting in a few days. The report is being prepared under the coordination of Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dinesh Kumar Ghimire.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, the overall progress of another national pride project &ndash; Budhigandaki Hydroelectricity Project &ndash; is 9.9 per cent. This project is much talked about since the last five years. According to RSS, the task of distributing compensation for the land acquired for the project is in progress. However, the compensation for the land at Arughat Bazar of Gorkha and Khahare Bazar of Dhading district has not been determined as yet.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, around 97 per cent works of another national pride project, Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, has been completed but its remaining work has not taken any momentum after the hydro mechanical contractor could not carry out stipulated works of the project.</p>
<p>
	The 456-MW project has made preparation to produce electricity commercially by coming mid-November.</p>
<p>
	Likewise, there is also problem in Sikta Irrigation Project. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has filed case against the project after contractors, consultants and technical staff of the project were not found fulfilling their responsibilities. The overall progress of the project, which is under construction for the past 12 years, is around 56 per cent.</p>

	Releasing a report on the current macroeconomic and financial situation of Nepal on Thursday, the central bank said that the country saw a moderate inflation during the review period due to marginal increase in the price of food and beverage group.</p>
<p>
	According to the report based on five months of the current fiscal year, food and beverage inflation moderated to 0.5 percent in mid-December 2018 compared to 2.8 percent a year ago while the non-food and service inflation stood at 6.3 percent in mid-December 2018 compared to 5.3 percent a year ago.</p>
<p>
	Likewise, the salary and wage rate index increased 9.3 percent in mid-December 2018 from 6.1 percent a year ago. In the review period, the salary index and the wage rate index increased 6.6 percent and 10.1 percent respectively.</p>
<p>
	&nbsp;The country&rsquo;s export in five months of 2018/19 increased 11.2 percent to Rs 37.50 billion compared to an increase of 10.1 percent a year ago, the report further said. Destination-wise, exports to India and other countries increased 20.7 percent and 3 percent respectively, whereas exports to China decreased 30.7 percent. Mainly exports of polyester yarn, zinc sheet, woolen carpet, pulses, readymade garments, pashmina, jute goods, among others, increased, whereas exports of cardamom, rosin, tanned skin, shoes and sandals, among others, decreased in the review period.</p>
<p>
	In the review period, the central bank said that the country&rsquo;s merchandise imports increased 34.2 percent to Rs 607 billion compared to an increase of 18.2 percent a year ago. Destination-wise, imports from India, China and other countries increased 31.7 percent, 47.7 percent and 33.7 percent respectively. Commodity-wise, imports of petroleum products, vehicle and spare parts, aircraft spare parts, MS billet, machinery and parts, vegetables, fruits and rice, among others, increased whereas imports of telecommunication equipment and parts, crude soybean oil, cement, medical equipment and tools, among others, decreased in the review period.</p>

	January 18: The Department of Environment is set to build five charging stations for electric vehicles in the Kathmandu Valley within the current fiscal year 2018/19. Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) reported that the department is soliciting support from all sectors to install the charging stations.</p>

	RSS said that people have shown interest in electric vehicles of late, boosting the sale of such vehicles especially in the valley. But there aren&rsquo;t adequate charging stations.</p>
<p>
	In the first phase, a charging station will be constructed soon on the premises of Sajha Yatayat station in Pulchok, said an official at the department.</p>
<p>
	All types of vehicles, big or small, can be charged from the station, said Bhushan Tuladhar, member of Sajha Yatayat Board of Directors.</p>
<p>
	&quot;The process in this regard has started. Five charging stations will be built within the FY after identifying convenient areas,&quot; RSS quoted the Director General for the Department, Jhalak Ram Adhikari, as saying. The project concept will be created soon after holding discussions with concerned entrepreneurs and stakeholders, he added.</p>
<p>
	Nepal Electricity Authority has urged the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation to create a legal framework to address the security concerns and amount to be charged for the customers.</p>
<p>
	President of Independent Power Producers&#39; Association Shailendra Guragain said a charging station for electric vehicles could be set up within one or two months if legal grounds were created. The drive should be expanded across the country, he said.</p>
