<p>Hari Bhakta Sharma, president of CNI, expressed that cooperation from development partner organization like EU will prove beneficial in the changed political context of Nepal where governments and political parties have placed high value on political stability and economic agendas.</p>

<p>Sharma noted that CNI successfully completed various small export promotion projects and two conferences on infrastructure in the past three years in collaboration with the EU. He further informed that the CNI envisage operating &lsquo;Industrial Excellence Center&rsquo; in the future with a view to boost industrial production and improve quality. During the meeting, Sharma also proposed for EU&rsquo;s cooperation in operating the excellence center. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The meeting was attended by CNI officials and members from governing council.</p>

<p>Importers complained that lack of necessary equipment for loading and unloading the imported goods has caused delay in transport of goods from Raxaul and caused them to pay fines. According to importers, they are allowed two hours to finish their paper work and additional seven hours from unloading their goods. The railway company charges Rs. 150 for every hour of delay hence after. One of the importers complained that they are also compelled to pay separate fines to the shipping company for not being able to return the containers on time<strong>. </strong></p>

<p>&ldquo;The dry port operator charges us fine for the delay actually caused by them,&rdquo; an importer complained requesting anonymity.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to coordinator of the Road Transportation and Transit Committee at FNCCI, Ashok Kumar Temani, it is likely that such fines annually translate into billions of rupees which increase their transaction costs. According to importers such increase in transaction costs eventually affects the consumers as price increases.</p>

<p>&ldquo;One of the reasons for such delay is lack of sufficient cranes and reach stackers for loading and unloading goods&rdquo;, Vice Chairman Kashiraj Upadhaya of Federation of Nepal Customs Agent said. On the other hand, Senior Officer at the Himalayan Terminal Finance Department Animesh Kumar Karna has refuted it saying that the dry port operator is fully equipped with cranes and the problem is actually caused by the existing narrow cargo management area and delays in its expansion. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The probability has risen after International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) removed Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) from its SSC list. Earlier, Nepal achieved significant improvements in ICAO standards as marked in its test audit that took place from July 4 to 11.</p>

<p>However, EU is yet to lift the ban imposed on Nepali airlines to operate flights in EU countries. Sanjiv Gautam, director general at Civil CAAN said, &ldquo;Though we have contacted EU after CAAN&rsquo;s removal from ICAO&rsquo;s blacklist, EU has not lifted its ban yet and sought additional information.&rdquo; Nepal was listed in EU&rsquo;s SSC list based on ICAO&rsquo;s Aviation Security Audit Program that listed Nepal in its SSC list in July, 2013.</p>

<p>Gautam informed that CAAN&rsquo;s current focus lies in removing Nepal from EU&rsquo;s SSC list. According to Gautam, Nepal&rsquo;s aviation sector has progressed in terms of international security and standards and will discuss the same with EU during their visit to Brussels, Belgium in January. EU has invited CAAN to discuss about the issue and its team preparing for a briefing for January 19.</p>

<p>At present, there are 178 companies including Nepal&rsquo;s entire aviation companies in EU&rsquo;s SSC list. Nepal&rsquo;s removal from EU&rsquo;s blacklist will be a significant boost for its tourism sector.</p>

The project was implemented by Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) and supported by Asian Development Bank (ADB).</span></p>

<p>&ldquo;Access to clean, reliable and affordable energy will help the village to connect to the world through internet and mobile phones, and will create opportunities to boost local income,&rdquo; said Mukhtor Khamudkhanov, ADB&rsquo;s country director for Nepal. &ldquo;The electricity from the mini-grid will also open the door for commercial activities in the village and help small businesses get off the ground.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Issuing a press statement, ADB said that the project, now providing electricity services to 83 rural households, has installed 20 kilowatt wind turbines complemented by 15 kilowatt-peak of solar photo voltaic panels. The system produces 110 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy per day, which easily meets the village&rsquo;s electricity demand of 87 kWh per day.</p>

<p>This sub-project represents an example of the government&rsquo;s commitment and ADB&rsquo;s efforts to scaling up decentralized off grid approaches to rural energy in Nepal, reads the statement.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Six years ago, the Government of Nepal, with support from ADB, launched its first mini grid wind-solar system in Dhaubadi in western Nepal,&rdquo; said Ram Prasad Dhital, executive director of AEPC. &ldquo;The success of these two projects has demonstrated that clean energy is indeed a viable option to provide reliable energy access to rural Nepal through wind-solar hybrid systems.&rdquo;</p>

<p>ADB said that the wind-solar hybrid system was installed under its South Asia Sub-regional Economic Cooperation Power System Expansion Project. The project, with a total cost of $16.2 million, was also partly financed by the Government of Nepal, the Scaling up of Renewable Energy Program under the Climate Investment Fund, and the local community.</p>

<p>&ldquo;&ldquo;We appreciate ADB&rsquo;s continued support to strengthen the power sector in Nepal and implement innovative renewable energy solutions to help the country achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,&rdquo; said Prakash Mathema, secretary at the Ministry of Population and Environment.</p>

<p>Manila-based ADB said it is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, ADB is celebrating 50 years of development partnership in the region. It is owned by 67 members&mdash;48 from the region. In 2016, ADB assistance totaled $31.7 billion, including $14 billion in co-financing.</p>

<p>Importers complained that lack of necessary equipment for loading and unloading the imported goods has caused delay in transport of goods from Raxaul and caused them to pay fines. According to importers, they are allowed two hours to finish their paper work and additional seven hours from unloading their goods. The railway company charges Rs. 150 for every hour of delay hence after. One of the importers complained that they are also compelled to pay separate fines to the shipping company for not being able to return the containers on time<strong>. </strong></p>

<p>&ldquo;The dry port operator charges us fine for the delay actually caused by them,&rdquo; an importer complained requesting anonymity.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to coordinator of the Road Transportation and Transit Committee at FNCCI, Ashok Kumar Temani, it is likely that such fines annually translate into billions of rupees which increase their transaction costs. According to importers such increase in transaction costs eventually affects the consumers as price increases.</p>

<p>&ldquo;One of the reasons for such delay is lack of sufficient cranes and reach stackers for loading and unloading goods&rdquo;, Vice Chairman Kashiraj Upadhaya of Federation of Nepal Customs Agent said. On the other hand, Senior Officer at the Himalayan Terminal Finance Department Animesh Kumar Karna has refuted it saying that the dry port operator is fully equipped with cranes and the problem is actually caused by the existing narrow cargo management area and delays in its expansion. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The probability has risen after International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) removed Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) from its SSC list. Earlier, Nepal achieved significant improvements in ICAO standards as marked in its test audit that took place from July 4 to 11.</p>

<p>However, EU is yet to lift the ban imposed on Nepali airlines to operate flights in EU countries. Sanjiv Gautam, director general at Civil CAAN said, &ldquo;Though we have contacted EU after CAAN&rsquo;s removal from ICAO&rsquo;s blacklist, EU has not lifted its ban yet and sought additional information.&rdquo; Nepal was listed in EU&rsquo;s SSC list based on ICAO&rsquo;s Aviation Security Audit Program that listed Nepal in its SSC list in July, 2013.</p>

<p>Gautam informed that CAAN&rsquo;s current focus lies in removing Nepal from EU&rsquo;s SSC list. According to Gautam, Nepal&rsquo;s aviation sector has progressed in terms of international security and standards and will discuss the same with EU during their visit to Brussels, Belgium in January. EU has invited CAAN to discuss about the issue and its team preparing for a briefing for January 19.</p>

<p>At present, there are 178 companies including Nepal&rsquo;s entire aviation companies in EU&rsquo;s SSC list. Nepal&rsquo;s removal from EU&rsquo;s blacklist will be a significant boost for its tourism sector.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Access to clean, reliable and affordable energy will help the village to connect to the world through internet and mobile phones, and will create opportunities to boost local income,&rdquo; said Mukhtor Khamudkhanov, ADB&rsquo;s country director for Nepal. &ldquo;The electricity from the mini-grid will also open the door for commercial activities in the village and help small businesses get off the ground.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Issuing a press statement, ADB said that the project, now providing electricity services to 83 rural households, has installed 20 kilowatt wind turbines complemented by 15 kilowatt-peak of solar photo voltaic panels. The system produces 110 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy per day, which easily meets the village&rsquo;s electricity demand of 87 kWh per day.</p>

<p>This sub-project represents an example of the government&rsquo;s commitment and ADB&rsquo;s efforts to scaling up decentralized off grid approaches to rural energy in Nepal, reads the statement.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Six years ago, the Government of Nepal, with support from ADB, launched its first mini grid wind-solar system in Dhaubadi in western Nepal,&rdquo; said Ram Prasad Dhital, executive director of AEPC. &ldquo;The success of these two projects has demonstrated that clean energy is indeed a viable option to provide reliable energy access to rural Nepal through wind-solar hybrid systems.&rdquo;</p>

<p>ADB said that the wind-solar hybrid system was installed under its South Asia Sub-regional Economic Cooperation Power System Expansion Project. The project, with a total cost of $16.2 million, was also partly financed by the Government of Nepal, the Scaling up of Renewable Energy Program under the Climate Investment Fund, and the local community.</p>

<p>&ldquo;&ldquo;We appreciate ADB&rsquo;s continued support to strengthen the power sector in Nepal and implement innovative renewable energy solutions to help the country achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,&rdquo; said Prakash Mathema, secretary at the Ministry of Population and Environment.</p>

<p>Manila-based ADB said it is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, ADB is celebrating 50 years of development partnership in the region. It is owned by 67 members&mdash;48 from the region. In 2016, ADB assistance totaled $31.7 billion, including $14 billion in co-financing.</p>

<p>Sharma noted that CNI successfully completed various small export promotion projects and two conferences on infrastructure in the past three years in collaboration with the EU. He further informed that the CNI envisage operating &lsquo;Industrial Excellence Center&rsquo; in the future with a view to boost industrial production and improve quality. During the meeting, Sharma also proposed for EU&rsquo;s cooperation in operating the excellence center. &nbsp;</p>

One of the importers complained that they are also compelled to pay separate fines to the shipping company for not being able to return the containers on time<strong>. </strong></p>

<p>&ldquo;The dry port operator charges us fine for the delay actually caused by them,&rdquo; an importer complained requesting anonymity.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to coordinator of the Road Transportation and Transit Committee at FNCCI, Ashok Kumar Temani, it is likely that such fines annually translate into billions of rupees which increase their transaction costs. According to importers such increase in transaction costs eventually affects the consumers as price increases.</p>

<p>&ldquo;One of the reasons for such delay is lack of sufficient cranes and reach stackers for loading and unloading goods&rdquo;, Vice Chairman Kashiraj Upadhaya of Federation of Nepal Customs Agent said. <p>However, EU is yet to lift the ban imposed on Nepali airlines to operate flights in EU countries. Sanjiv Gautam, director general at Civil CAAN said, &ldquo;Though we have contacted EU after CAAN&rsquo;s removal from ICAO&rsquo;s blacklist, EU has not lifted its ban yet and sought additional information.&rdquo; Nepal was listed in EU&rsquo;s SSC list based on ICAO&rsquo;s Aviation Security Audit Program that listed Nepal in its SSC list in July, 2013.</p>

<p>Gautam informed that CAAN&rsquo;s current focus lies in removing Nepal from EU&rsquo;s SSC list. According to Gautam, Nepal&rsquo;s aviation sector has progressed in terms of international security and standards and will discuss the same with EU during their visit to Brussels, Belgium in January. EU has invited CAAN to discuss about the issue and its team preparing for a briefing for January 19.</p>

<p>At present, there are 178 companies including Nepal&rsquo;s entire aviation companies in EU&rsquo;s SSC list. Nepal&rsquo;s removal from EU&rsquo;s blacklist will be a significant boost for its tourism sector.</p>

<p>Issuing a press statement, ADB said that the project, now providing electricity services to 83 rural households, has installed 20 kilowatt wind turbines complemented by 15 kilowatt-peak of solar photo voltaic panels. The system produces 110 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy per day, which easily meets the village&rsquo;s electricity demand of 87 kWh per day.</p>

<p>This sub-project represents an example of the government&rsquo;s commitment and ADB&rsquo;s efforts to scaling up decentralized off grid approaches to rural energy in Nepal, reads the statement.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Six years ago, the Government of Nepal, with support from ADB, launched its first mini grid wind-solar system in Dhaubadi in western Nepal,&rdquo; said Ram Prasad Dhital, executive director of AEPC. &ldquo;The success of these two projects has demonstrated that clean energy is indeed a viable option to provide reliable energy access to rural Nepal through wind-solar hybrid systems.&rdquo;</p>

<p>ADB said that the wind-solar hybrid system was installed under its South Asia Sub-regional Economic Cooperation Power System Expansion Project. The project, with a total cost of $16.2 million, was also partly financed by the Government of Nepal, the Scaling up of Renewable Energy Program under the Climate Investment Fund, and the local community.</p>

<p>&ldquo;&ldquo;We appreciate ADB&rsquo;s continued support to strengthen the power sector in Nepal and implement innovative renewable energy solutions to help the country achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,&rdquo; said Prakash Mathema, secretary at the Ministry of Population and Environment.</p>

<p>Manila-based ADB said it is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, ADB is celebrating 50 years of development partnership in the region. It is owned by 67 members&mdash;48 from the region. In 2016, ADB assistance totaled $31.7 billion, including $14 billion in co-financing.</p>

<p>Hari Bhakta Sharma, president of CNI, expressed that cooperation from development partner organization like EU will prove beneficial in the changed political context of Nepal where governments and political parties have placed high value on political stability and economic agendas.</p>

<p>Sharma noted that CNI successfully completed various small export promotion projects and two conferences on infrastructure in the past three years in collaboration with the EU. He further informed that the CNI envisage operating &lsquo;Industrial Excellence Center&rsquo; in the future with a view to boost industrial production and improve quality. During the meeting, Sharma also proposed for EU&rsquo;s cooperation in operating the excellence center. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The new scheme is available for all existing and new savings account holders of the bank with an introductory rate of up to 9.0% pa.</p>

<p>Importers complained that lack of necessary equipment for loading and unloading the imported goods has caused delay in transport of goods from Raxaul and caused them to pay fines. According to importers, they are allowed two hours to finish their paper work and additional seven hours from unloading their goods. The railway company charges Rs. 150 for every hour of delay hence after. One of the importers complained that they are also compelled to pay separate fines to the shipping company for not being able to return the containers on time<strong>. </strong></p>

<p>&ldquo;The dry port operator charges us fine for the delay actually caused by them,&rdquo; an importer complained requesting anonymity.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to coordinator of the Road Transportation and Transit Committee at FNCCI, Ashok Kumar Temani, it is likely that such fines annually translate into billions of rupees which increase their transaction costs. According to importers such increase in transaction costs eventually affects the consumers as price increases.</p>

<p>&ldquo;One of the reasons for such delay is lack of sufficient cranes and reach stackers for loading and unloading goods&rdquo;, Vice Chairman Kashiraj Upadhaya of Federation of Nepal Customs Agent said. On the other hand, Senior Officer at the Himalayan Terminal Finance Department Animesh Kumar Karna has refuted it saying that the dry port operator is fully equipped with cranes and the problem is actually caused by the existing narrow cargo management area and delays in its expansion. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The probability has risen after International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) removed Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) from its SSC list. Earlier, Nepal achieved significant improvements in ICAO standards as marked in its test audit that took place from July 4 to 11.</p>

<p>However, EU is yet to lift the ban imposed on Nepali airlines to operate flights in EU countries. Sanjiv Gautam, director general at Civil CAAN said, &ldquo;Though we have contacted EU after CAAN&rsquo;s removal from ICAO&rsquo;s blacklist, EU has not lifted its ban yet and sought additional information.&rdquo; Nepal was listed in EU&rsquo;s SSC list based on ICAO&rsquo;s Aviation Security Audit Program that listed Nepal in its SSC list in July, 2013.</p>

<p>Gautam informed that CAAN&rsquo;s current focus lies in removing Nepal from EU&rsquo;s SSC list. According to Gautam, Nepal&rsquo;s aviation sector has progressed in terms of international security and standards and will discuss the same with EU during their visit to Brussels, Belgium in January. EU has invited CAAN to discuss about the issue and its team preparing for a briefing for January 19.</p>

<p>At present, there are 178 companies including Nepal&rsquo;s entire aviation companies in EU&rsquo;s SSC list. Nepal&rsquo;s removal from EU&rsquo;s blacklist will be a significant boost for its tourism sector.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Access to clean, reliable and affordable energy will help the village to connect to the world through internet and mobile phones, and will create opportunities to boost local income,&rdquo; said Mukhtor Khamudkhanov, ADB&rsquo;s country director for Nepal. &ldquo;The electricity from the mini-grid will also open the door for commercial activities in the village and help small businesses get off the ground.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Issuing a press statement, ADB said that the project, now providing electricity services to 83 rural households, has installed 20 kilowatt wind turbines complemented by 15 kilowatt-peak of solar photo voltaic panels. The system produces 110 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy per day, which easily meets the village&rsquo;s electricity demand of 87 kWh per day.</p>

<p>This sub-project represents an example of the government&rsquo;s commitment and ADB&rsquo;s efforts to scaling up decentralized off grid approaches to rural energy in Nepal, reads the statement.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Six years ago, the Government of Nepal, with support from ADB, launched its first mini grid wind-solar system in Dhaubadi in western Nepal,&rdquo; said Ram Prasad Dhital, executive director of AEPC. &ldquo;The success of these two projects has demonstrated that clean energy is indeed a viable option to provide reliable energy access to rural Nepal through wind-solar hybrid systems.&rdquo;</p>

<p>ADB said that the wind-solar hybrid system was installed under its South Asia Sub-regional Economic Cooperation Power System Expansion Project. The project, with a total cost of $16.2 million, was also partly financed by the Government of Nepal, the Scaling up of Renewable Energy Program under the Climate Investment Fund, and the local community.</p>

<p>&ldquo;&ldquo;We appreciate ADB&rsquo;s continued support to strengthen the power sector in Nepal and implement innovative renewable energy solutions to help the country achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,&rdquo; said Prakash Mathema, secretary at the Ministry of Population and Environment.</p>

<p>Manila-based ADB said it is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, ADB is celebrating 50 years of development partnership in the region. It is owned by 67 members&mdash;48 from the region. In 2016, ADB assistance totaled $31.7 billion, including $14 billion in co-financing.</p>
