<p>Nepali importers have been repeatedly burdened with heavy fines due to the delay in clearing the containers of imported goods.</p>

<p>Maximum of the goods imported from third world country enter Nepal through these ports. Besides the ports themselves are among the crucial sea hubs for India to get commercially connected with the world which indeed increases the pressure in the busy ports.</p>

<p>This slow service has resulted in Nepal being penalized with heavy fines due to delay in collection of the imported commodities. After analyzing these losses, the Ministry of Finance has come up with a plan to construct warehouses in the available lease lands at ports of both Kolkata and Haldiya.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Narayan Aryal, consul general of Nepal, informed New Business Age that the government has decided to construct a warehouse each at Kolkata and Haldiya port sites.</p>

<p>&quot;We have already been paying for the lands but have hardly utilized them. Construction of warehouse will definitely be the optimum utilization of the leased space,&quot; Aryal added.</p>

<p>Shipping companies generally allocate 21 days duration to return back the container for unloading the goods but since the ports are generally packed with heavy traffic, agencies working for Nepal have been failing to meet the deadline, according to Aryal. &ldquo;Therefore, we are being penalized,&rdquo; stated Aryal.</p>

<p>So, warehouses can be very crucial for unloading the goods in time, which indeed will help us to return back the container within the deadline, he added.</p>

<p>Ports also charge additional amount for delay. Generally, they only allocate 20 days or 10 days to return the containers. Containers transported by trains have to be back at the port within 20 days and only in 10 days if transported by the road, informed Aryal. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>At present, Nepal spends more than over Rs 2 billion annually for shipping, port and transportation expenses. Construction of warehouses in this situation can somehow bring down the expenses for the country. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;We have been leasing altogether around 11,000 plus square meters of land at both the ports and documents for warehouse construction is awaiting approval from the Indian authorities, reported an official at the Ministry of Finance.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speakers at a panel discussion jointly organised by Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) and the World Bank in the capital on Tuesday, March 13 said that there is an urgent need to change Nepal&rsquo;s development model to make sure that opportunities for faster growth and poverty reduction are not missed.</p>

<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;At this historic moment in Nepal, there is a need for new approach to achieve faster progress,&rdquo; SEJON quoted Ruth Hill, a co-author of &lsquo;Nepal Systematic Country Diagnostic&rsquo; report by the World Bank which was unveiled on the program, as saying.</p>

<p>The report also calls for the departure from the &lsquo;business-as-usual&rsquo; approach that will not address the inequalities, reduce poverty rapidly and create enough employment opportunities in the country to achieve the faster economic growth, SEJON said in a statement.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The private-public partnership is going to be critically important as the government cannot alone make the huge investment needed in the country. The government should join hands with the private sector for development,&rdquo; said Suraj Vaidya, president at the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.</p>

<p>Jeewan Bahadur Shahi, a member of provincial assembly of Karnali, said that the inequality between the provinces should be addressed. &ldquo;The first step for addressing the inequality between the provinces is to distribute the resources from the central government in an equitable way,&rdquo; he added.</p>

<p>Kewal Prasad Bhandari, a join secretary at the Ministry of Finance, said that focus should be on the agricultural development as the country may not be able to immediately compete in manufacturing sector with China and India.</p>

<p>Min Bahadur Shrestha, former Vice President at National Planning Commission, said that the government should facilitate in attracting private sector investment, both domestic and foreign investments, to create mass-scale employment opportunities.</p>

<p>THE WORLD BANK RECOMMENDS SIX ACTIONS IN NEW APPROACH</p>

<p>Among other, the SCD report pointed out the six areas where action is required to take advantage of opportunities for growth and poverty reduction, to address sources of fragility, and to reduce vulnerability. The SCD report has said that there is a need of encouragement of political inclusion and eliminating &lsquo;clientelism&rsquo;.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The current transition to federalism is a potential game changer if it is accompanied by a meaningful change in the balance of power,&rdquo; said Hill, adding that real progress in this area of action is not only important but also very possible. Another areas of action recommended in the report is private sector investment. According to the report, addressing constraints to private investment is essential for individuals to become more productive employees and entrepreneurs.</p>

<p>The report has also recommended the need to harness the potential of natural resources. Stating that the constraints to private investment are apparent in natural resource development, it said that unlocking such constraints means getting more from natural resources which will improve employment for the many and have spill-over effects into other sectors.</p>

<p>The World Bank report also called for addressing the barriers to health posed by remoteness, low income, and norms to ensure that all Nepalis are equally able to invest in and use human capital. &ldquo;Improving inclusion in acquisition and use of human capital is not only important for taking advantage of opportunities for growth and poverty reduction, it is fundamental to addressing source of fragility,&rdquo; reads the report.</p>

<p>As the progress in the country has often been set back by natural disasters, the report said that there is a need to increase the resilience to natural disasters and health shocks.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Resilience is built both by reducing exposure to risk and strengthening coping mechanisms for when shocks do occur,&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>From migration, Nepal can get more than remittances, according to the SCD report. One of the ways is to tap in the capital and skills that returnees bring, said the report. &ldquo;Getting more from migration entails addressing constraints remittance recipients and migrant returnees face in pursuing entrepreneurial investments,&rdquo; the report added.</p>

<p>Shankar Prasad Adhikari, secretary at the Ministry of Finance, said that the SCD report could become a good reference for the government in aligning its development plan and programs in the days to come.</p>

<p>Nepali importers have been repeatedly burdened with heavy fines due to the delay in clearing the containers of imported goods.</p>

<p>Maximum of the goods imported from third world country enter Nepal through these ports. Besides the ports themselves are among the crucial sea hubs for India to get commercially connected with the world which indeed increases the pressure in the busy ports.</p>

<p>This slow service has resulted in Nepal being penalized with heavy fines due to delay in collection of the imported commodities. After analyzing these losses, the Ministry of Finance has come up with a plan to construct warehouses in the available lease lands at ports of both Kolkata and Haldiya.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Narayan Aryal, consul general of Nepal, informed New Business Age that the government has decided to construct a warehouse each at Kolkata and Haldiya port sites.</p>

<p>&quot;We have already been paying for the lands but have hardly utilized them. Construction of warehouse will definitely be the optimum utilization of the leased space,&quot; Aryal added.</p>

<p>Shipping companies generally allocate 21 days duration to return back the container for unloading the goods but since the ports are generally packed with heavy traffic, agencies working for Nepal have been failing to meet the deadline, according to Aryal. &ldquo;Therefore, we are being penalized,&rdquo; stated Aryal.</p>

<p>So, warehouses can be very crucial for unloading the goods in time, which indeed will help us to return back the container within the deadline, he added.</p>

<p>Ports also charge additional amount for delay. Generally, they only allocate 20 days or 10 days to return the containers. Containers transported by trains have to be back at the port within 20 days and only in 10 days if transported by the road, informed Aryal. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>At present, Nepal spends more than over Rs 2 billion annually for shipping, port and transportation expenses. Construction of warehouses in this situation can somehow bring down the expenses for the country. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;We have been leasing altogether around 11,000 plus square meters of land at both the ports and documents for warehouse construction is awaiting approval from the Indian authorities, reported an official at the Ministry of Finance.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speakers at a panel discussion jointly organised by Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) and the World Bank in the capital on Tuesday, March 13 said that there is an urgent need to change Nepal&rsquo;s development model to make sure that opportunities for faster growth and poverty reduction are not missed.</p>

<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;At this historic moment in Nepal, there is a need for new approach to achieve faster progress,&rdquo; SEJON quoted Ruth Hill, a co-author of &lsquo;Nepal Systematic Country Diagnostic&rsquo; report by the World Bank which was unveiled on the program, as saying.</p>

<p>The report also calls for the departure from the &lsquo;business-as-usual&rsquo; approach that will not address the inequalities, reduce poverty rapidly and create enough employment opportunities in the country to achieve the faster economic growth, SEJON said in a statement.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The private-public partnership is going to be critically important as the government cannot alone make the huge investment needed in the country. The government should join hands with the private sector for development,&rdquo; said Suraj Vaidya, president at the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.</p>

<p>Jeewan Bahadur Shahi, a member of provincial assembly of Karnali, said that the inequality between the provinces should be addressed. &ldquo;The first step for addressing the inequality between the provinces is to distribute the resources from the central government in an equitable way,&rdquo; he added.</p>

<p>Kewal Prasad Bhandari, a join secretary at the Ministry of Finance, said that focus should be on the agricultural development as the country may not be able to immediately compete in manufacturing sector with China and India.</p>

<p>Min Bahadur Shrestha, former Vice President at National Planning Commission, said that the government should facilitate in attracting private sector investment, both domestic and foreign investments, to create mass-scale employment opportunities.</p>

<p>THE WORLD BANK RECOMMENDS SIX ACTIONS IN NEW APPROACH</p>

<p>Among other, the SCD report pointed out the six areas where action is required to take advantage of opportunities for growth and poverty reduction, to address sources of fragility, and to reduce vulnerability. The SCD report has said that there is a need of encouragement of political inclusion and eliminating &lsquo;clientelism&rsquo;.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The current transition to federalism is a potential game changer if it is accompanied by a meaningful change in the balance of power,&rdquo; said Hill, adding that real progress in this area of action is not only important but also very possible. Another areas of action recommended in the report is private sector investment. According to the report, addressing constraints to private investment is essential for individuals to become more productive employees and entrepreneurs.</p>

<p>The report has also recommended the need to harness the potential of natural resources. Stating that the constraints to private investment are apparent in natural resource development, it said that unlocking such constraints means getting more from natural resources which will improve employment for the many and have spill-over effects into other sectors.</p>

<p>The World Bank report also called for addressing the barriers to health posed by remoteness, low income, and norms to ensure that all Nepalis are equally able to invest in and use human capital. &ldquo;Improving inclusion in acquisition and use of human capital is not only important for taking advantage of opportunities for growth and poverty reduction, it is fundamental to addressing source of fragility,&rdquo; reads the report.</p>

<p>As the progress in the country has often been set back by natural disasters, the report said that there is a need to increase the resilience to natural disasters and health shocks.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Resilience is built both by reducing exposure to risk and strengthening coping mechanisms for when shocks do occur,&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>From migration, Nepal can get more than remittances, according to the SCD report. One of the ways is to tap in the capital and skills that returnees bring, said the report. &ldquo;Getting more from migration entails addressing constraints remittance recipients and migrant returnees face in pursuing entrepreneurial investments,&rdquo; the report added.</p>

<p>Shankar Prasad Adhikari, secretary at the Ministry of Finance, said that the SCD report could become a good reference for the government in aligning its development plan and programs in the days to come.</p>

<p>Nepali importers have been repeatedly burdened with heavy fines due to the delay in clearing the containers of imported goods.</p>

<p>Maximum of the goods imported from third world country enter Nepal through these ports. Besides the ports themselves are among the crucial sea hubs for India to get commercially connected with the world which indeed increases the pressure in the busy ports.</p>

<p>This slow service has resulted in Nepal being penalized with heavy fines due to delay in collection of the imported commodities. After analyzing these losses, the Ministry of Finance has come up with a plan to construct warehouses in the available lease lands at ports of both Kolkata and Haldiya.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Narayan Aryal, consul general of Nepal, informed New Business Age that the government has decided to construct a warehouse each at Kolkata and Haldiya port sites.</p>

<p>&quot;We have already been paying for the lands but have hardly utilized them. Construction of warehouse will definitely be the optimum utilization of the leased space,&quot; Aryal added.</p>

<p>Shipping companies generally allocate 21 days duration to return back the container for unloading the goods but since the ports are generally packed with heavy traffic, agencies working for Nepal have been failing to meet the deadline, according to Aryal. &ldquo;Therefore, we are being penalized,&rdquo; stated Aryal.</p>

<p>So, warehouses can be very crucial for unloading the goods in time, which indeed will help us to return back the container within the deadline, he added.</p>

<p>Ports also charge additional amount for delay. Generally, they only allocate 20 days or 10 days to return the containers. Containers transported by trains have to be back at the port within 20 days and only in 10 days if transported by the road, informed Aryal. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>At present, Nepal spends more than over Rs 2 billion annually for shipping, port and transportation expenses. Construction of warehouses in this situation can somehow bring down the expenses for the country. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;We have been leasing altogether around 11,000 plus square meters of land at both the ports and documents for warehouse construction is awaiting approval from the Indian authorities, reported an official at the Ministry of Finance.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

The association has been organizing such exhibitions in every two years since 2011.</p>

<p>Chitwan Industrial Association&#39;s President Bhesraj Duwadi urged the industrialists to display their capacity in production, and their potentialities during the exhibition. According to him, the exhibition will be showing various products and materials relating to agriculture, industry, tourism, education, health, science and technology, handicraft among others.</p>

<p>There will be more than 250 stalls during the exhibition showcasing industrial machineries and technologies, electrical and electronic equipment, construction materials and plastic products, fishery and poultry products, alternative power production/bio production, furniture products, clay products, fast food and drinks, handicrafts and entertaining materials, wood and furniture products, new and modern production technology, veterinary and agricultural medicines, agricultural equipment, informed the organizers.</p>

<p>Speakers at a panel discussion jointly organised by Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) and the World Bank in the capital on Tuesday, March 13 said that there is an urgent need to change Nepal&rsquo;s development model to make sure that opportunities for faster growth and poverty reduction are not missed.</p>

<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;At this historic moment in Nepal, there is a need for new approach to achieve faster progress,&rdquo; SEJON quoted Ruth Hill, a co-author of &lsquo;Nepal Systematic Country Diagnostic&rsquo; report by the World Bank which was unveiled on the program, as saying.</p>

<p>The report also calls for the departure from the &lsquo;business-as-usual&rsquo; approach that will not address the inequalities, reduce poverty rapidly and create enough employment opportunities in the country to achieve the faster economic growth, SEJON said in a statement.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The private-public partnership is going to be critically important as the government cannot alone make the huge investment needed in the country. The government should join hands with the private sector for development,&rdquo; said Suraj Vaidya, president at the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.</p>

<p>Jeewan Bahadur Shahi, a member of provincial assembly of Karnali, said that the inequality between the provinces should be addressed. &ldquo;The first step for addressing the inequality between the provinces is to distribute the resources from the central government in an equitable way,&rdquo; he added.</p>

<p>Kewal Prasad Bhandari, a join secretary at the Ministry of Finance, said that focus should be on the agricultural development as the country may not be able to immediately compete in manufacturing sector with China and India.</p>

<p>Min Bahadur Shrestha, former Vice President at National Planning Commission, said that the government should facilitate in attracting private sector investment, both domestic and foreign investments, to create mass-scale employment opportunities.</p>

<p>THE WORLD BANK RECOMMENDS SIX ACTIONS IN NEW APPROACH</p>

<p>Among other, the SCD report pointed out the six areas where action is required to take advantage of opportunities for growth and poverty reduction, to address sources of fragility, and to reduce vulnerability. The SCD report has said that there is a need of encouragement of political inclusion and eliminating &lsquo;clientelism&rsquo;.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The current transition to federalism is a potential game changer if it is accompanied by a meaningful change in the balance of power,&rdquo; said Hill, adding that real progress in this area of action is not only important but also very possible. Another areas of action recommended in the report is private sector investment. According to the report, addressing constraints to private investment is essential for individuals to become more productive employees and entrepreneurs.</p>

<p>The report has also recommended the need to harness the potential of natural resources. Stating that the constraints to private investment are apparent in natural resource development, it said that unlocking such constraints means getting more from natural resources which will improve employment for the many and have spill-over effects into other sectors.</p>

<p>The World Bank report also called for addressing the barriers to health posed by remoteness, low income, and norms to ensure that all Nepalis are equally able to invest in and use human capital. &ldquo;Improving inclusion in acquisition and use of human capital is not only important for taking advantage of opportunities for growth and poverty reduction, it is fundamental to addressing source of fragility,&rdquo; reads the report.</p>

<p>As the progress in the country has often been set back by natural disasters, the report said that there is a need to increase the resilience to natural disasters and health shocks.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Resilience is built both by reducing exposure to risk and strengthening coping mechanisms for when shocks do occur,&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>From migration, Nepal can get more than remittances, according to the SCD report. One of the ways is to tap in the capital and skills that returnees bring, said the report. &ldquo;Getting more from migration entails addressing constraints remittance recipients and migrant returnees face in pursuing entrepreneurial investments,&rdquo; the report added.</p>

<p>Shankar Prasad Adhikari, secretary at the Ministry of Finance, said that the SCD report could become a good reference for the government in aligning its development plan and programs in the days to come.</p>

<p>Nepali importers have been repeatedly burdened with heavy fines due to the delay in clearing the containers of imported goods.</p>

<p>Maximum of the goods imported from third world country enter Nepal through these ports. Besides the ports themselves are among the crucial sea hubs for India to get commercially connected with the world which indeed increases the pressure in the busy ports.</p>

<p>This slow service has resulted in Nepal being penalized with heavy fines due to delay in collection of the imported commodities. After analyzing these losses, the Ministry of Finance has come up with a plan to construct warehouses in the available lease lands at ports of both Kolkata and Haldiya.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Narayan Aryal, consul general of Nepal, informed New Business Age that the government has decided to construct a warehouse each at Kolkata and Haldiya port sites.</p>

<p>&quot;We have already been paying for the lands but have hardly utilized them. Construction of warehouse will definitely be the optimum utilization of the leased space,&quot; Aryal added.</p>

<p>Shipping companies generally allocate 21 days duration to return back the container for unloading the goods but since the ports are generally packed with heavy traffic, agencies working for Nepal have been failing to meet the deadline, according to Aryal. &ldquo;Therefore, we are being penalized,&rdquo; stated Aryal.</p>

<p>So, warehouses can be very crucial for unloading the goods in time, which indeed will help us to return back the container within the deadline, he added.</p>

<p>Ports also charge additional amount for delay. Generally, they only allocate 20 days or 10 days to return the containers. Containers transported by trains have to be back at the port within 20 days and only in 10 days if transported by the road, informed Aryal. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>At present, Nepal spends more than over Rs 2 billion annually for shipping, port and transportation expenses. Construction of warehouses in this situation can somehow bring down the expenses for the country. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;We have been leasing altogether around 11,000 plus square meters of land at both the ports and documents for warehouse construction is awaiting approval from the Indian authorities, reported an official at the Ministry of Finance.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speakers at a panel discussion jointly organised by Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) and the World Bank in the capital on Tuesday, March 13 said that there is an urgent need to change Nepal&rsquo;s development model to make sure that opportunities for faster growth and poverty reduction are not missed.</p>

<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;At this historic moment in Nepal, there is a need for new approach to achieve faster progress,&rdquo; SEJON quoted Ruth Hill, a co-author of &lsquo;Nepal Systematic Country Diagnostic&rsquo; report by the World Bank which was unveiled on the program, as saying.</p>

<p>The report also calls for the departure from the &lsquo;business-as-usual&rsquo; approach that will not address the inequalities, reduce poverty rapidly and create enough employment opportunities in the country to achieve the faster economic growth, SEJON said in a statement.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The private-public partnership is going to be critically important as the government cannot alone make the huge investment needed in the country. The government should join hands with the private sector for development,&rdquo; said Suraj Vaidya, president at the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.</p>

<p>Jeewan Bahadur Shahi, a member of provincial assembly of Karnali, said that the inequality between the provinces should be addressed. &ldquo;The first step for addressing the inequality between the provinces is to distribute the resources from the central government in an equitable way,&rdquo; he added.</p>

<p>Kewal Prasad Bhandari, a join secretary at the Ministry of Finance, said that focus should be on the agricultural development as the country may not be able to immediately compete in manufacturing sector with China and India.</p>

<p>Min Bahadur Shrestha, former Vice President at National Planning Commission, said that the government should facilitate in attracting private sector investment, both domestic and foreign investments, to create mass-scale employment opportunities.</p>

<p>THE WORLD BANK RECOMMENDS SIX ACTIONS IN NEW APPROACH</p>

<p>Among other, the SCD report pointed out the six areas where action is required to take advantage of opportunities for growth and poverty reduction, to address sources of fragility, and to reduce vulnerability. The SCD report has said that there is a need of encouragement of political inclusion and eliminating &lsquo;clientelism&rsquo;.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The current transition to federalism is a potential game changer if it is accompanied by a meaningful change in the balance of power,&rdquo; said Hill, adding that real progress in this area of action is not only important but also very possible. Another areas of action recommended in the report is private sector investment. According to the report, addressing constraints to private investment is essential for individuals to become more productive employees and entrepreneurs.</p>

<p>The report has also recommended the need to harness the potential of natural resources. Stating that the constraints to private investment are apparent in natural resource development, it said that unlocking such constraints means getting more from natural resources which will improve employment for the many and have spill-over effects into other sectors.</p>

<p>The World Bank report also called for addressing the barriers to health posed by remoteness, low income, and norms to ensure that all Nepalis are equally able to invest in and use human capital. &ldquo;Improving inclusion in acquisition and use of human capital is not only important for taking advantage of opportunities for growth and poverty reduction, it is fundamental to addressing source of fragility,&rdquo; reads the report.</p>

<p>As the progress in the country has often been set back by natural disasters, the report said that there is a need to increase the resilience to natural disasters and health shocks.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Resilience is built both by reducing exposure to risk and strengthening coping mechanisms for when shocks do occur,&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>From migration, Nepal can get more than remittances, according to the SCD report. One of the ways is to tap in the capital and skills that returnees bring, said the report. &ldquo;Getting more from migration entails addressing constraints remittance recipients and migrant returnees face in pursuing entrepreneurial investments,&rdquo; the report added.</p>

<p>Shankar Prasad Adhikari, secretary at the Ministry of Finance, said that the SCD report could become a good reference for the government in aligning its development plan and programs in the days to come.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We have started Met Five with the motive to serve Pokhara with cuisines from five different Mediterranean countries,&rdquo; said Gautam. &ldquo;Dishes from Italy, France, Spain, Greece and Turkey will be served at the restaurant, besides Nepali cuisines and dishes as per the order of customers,&rdquo; he added.</p>

<p>The restaurant is capable to host 180 individuals at a time. It also features an open kitchen, making it safe for the customers to invigilate the cooking procedure, Gautam stated. The restaurant also has ice creams and bakery items in its menu.</p>

<p>Customers can enjoy their meal with mesmerizing view of the lake and mountains in a family environment, added Gautam. The restaurant is currently employing 30 individuals. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Gautam owned Temple Tree and Caf&eacute; Cansto restaurant prior to establishing the Met Five restaurant. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
