Earlier on February 6, the SC had ordered the LTO to determine the amount Ncell owns to the government as CGT within three months. In the order, the apex court had also asked the taxpayers’ office to deduct the amount Ncell had already paid.</p> <p> Ncell has already paid Rs 21.54 billion as CGT to the Large Taxpayers’ Office in two installments on May 8, 2016 and June 4, 2017. It has also paid Rs 2.2 billion as late fee.</p> <p> Ncell has mentioned in the writ petition that it is now liable to pay only Rs 14.36 billion to the government.</p> <p> The LTO had earlier sought Rs 60.71 billion as CGT from Ncell. According to the Nepal Carpet Manufacturer and Exporter Association (NCMEA), China has become one of the major importers of Nepalese carpets after European countries and the USA.</p> <p> The data maintained by the Department of Customs shows that Nepalese carpets worth Rs 98 million have been exported to China in the first five months of the current fiscal year. Likewise, in the Fiscal Year 2017/2018, carpets worth Rs 210 million were exported to the northern neighbor. Similarly, the export of carpets to China in FY 2016/2017 was Rs 250 million.</p> <p> The data of Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC) shows that the overall export of Nepalese carpet has been declining in the last five years, but the export of carpet to China is on the rise.</p> <p> The data shows Nepalese carpets worth Rs 7.40 billion were exported to the foreign market in 2013/2014. Likewise, the export of Nepalese carpets to the foreign market was Rs 7.14 billion in the Fiscal Year 2014/2015.</p> <p> The major markets of Nepalese carpet include the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, among others. Of the total production, 10 percent of Nepalese carpets are consumed in the domestic market. Earlier on February 6, the SC had ordered the LTO to determine the amount Ncell owns to the government as CGT within three months. In the order, the apex court had also asked the taxpayers’ office to deduct the amount Ncell had already paid.</p> <p> Ncell has already paid Rs 21.54 billion as CGT to the Large Taxpayers’ Office in two installments on May 8, 2016 and June 4, 2017. It has also paid Rs 2.2 billion as late fee.</p> <p> Ncell has mentioned in the writ petition that it is now liable to pay only Rs 14.36 billion to the government.</p> <p> The LTO had earlier sought Rs 60.71 billion as CGT from Ncell. Earlier on February 6, the SC had ordered the LTO to determine the amount Ncell owns to the government as CGT within three months. In the order, the apex court had also asked the taxpayers’ office to deduct the amount Ncell had already paid.</p> <p> Ncell has already paid Rs 21.54 billion as CGT to the Large Taxpayers’ Office in two installments on May 8, 2016 and June 4, 2017. It has also paid Rs 2.2 billion as late fee.</p> <p> Ncell has mentioned in the writ petition that it is now liable to pay only Rs 14.36 billion to the government.</p> <p> The LTO had earlier sought Rs 60.71 billion as CGT from Ncell. As per the existing laws, any company is liable to pay 25 percent CGT of the total transaction during the buying or selling of the company. Earlier on February 6, the SC had ordered the LTO to determine the amount Ncell owns to the government as CGT within three months. In the order, the apex court had also asked the taxpayers’ office to deduct the amount Ncell had already paid.</p> <p> Ncell has already paid Rs 21.54 billion as CGT to the Large Taxpayers’ Office in two installments on May 8, 2016 and June 4, 2017. It has also paid Rs 2.2 billion as late fee.</p> <p> Ncell has mentioned in the writ petition that it is now liable to pay only Rs 14.36 billion to the government.</p> <p> The LTO had earlier sought Rs 60.71 billion as CGT from Ncell. As per the existing laws, any company is liable to pay 25 percent CGT of the total transaction during the buying or selling of the company.
