The government has been bearing the transportation cost while importing LPG from Barauni-based depot of India to Kathmandu. As per the decision of NOC, the transportation cost of LPG has also surged by Rs 27.89 per cylinder.

“We were compelled to increase the transportation cost as the import and sales of LPG was about to halt following the strike of dealers,” said Executive Director of the NOC, Surendra Poudel, adding, “The commission has been increased in such a way that it won’t have financial burden to the corporation.”

NOC had earlier formed a taskforce under the direction of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply to give suggestion on this matter. Poudel said that NOC decided to increase the commission amount according to the suggestion of the taskforce.

Poudel further said that the increase in commission has been adjusted in such a way that the consumers won’t feel any burden while purchasing the cooking gas.

Bhanu Khanal, deputy spokesperson of NOC, said that the industrialists can earn commission up to Rs 960 million per annum from the decision.

Nevertheless, gas industrialists are still disappointed with the decision. LP Gas Industry Association’s President Gokul Bhandari said that the government has showed irresponsible behaviour by increasing the commission by only Rs 27. 89 per cylinder. He claimed that the dealers are running their business at a loss of Rs 100 per cylinder for transporting the cylinder.

Nepal imports 40,000 metric tons of cooking gas per month. One ton of LPG amounts to around 70 cylinders. It means that the country consumes 2.8 million cylinders of LPG every month.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-04-25', 'modified' => '2019-04-25', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10301', 'image' => '20190425024839_20160706023026_gas.JPG', 'article_date' => '2019-04-25 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 1 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10549', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Cross-Border Response Crucial for Defeating Malaria: WHO Regional Director', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'April 25: With the world at a crossroads in the quest to defeat malaria, the WHO South-East Asia Region stands tall, according to WHO Regional Director Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh.', 'content' => '
April 25: With the world at a crossroads in the quest to defeat malaria, the WHO South-East Asia Region stands tall, according to WHO Regional Director Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh. Between 2015 and 2017 the region reduced its estimated malaria caseload by 56 percent, from 25.5 million to 11.3 million, a statement issued by the WHO regional office quoted Singh as saying.

According to Singh, the total number of cases presumed and confirmed decreased by 25 percent and reported mortality was more than halved between 2015 and 2017. Maldives and Sri Lanka remain malaria-free, while seven of the region’s nine malaria endemic member states are set to reduce case incidence by 40 percent by 2020.

“Region-wide, resolve is strong. As reflected in the 2017 Ministerial Declaration on Accelerating and Sustaining Malaria Elimination in the South-East Asia Region, each of the Region’s Member States are committed to fully routing the disease and achieving a malaria-free South-East Asia Region by 2030,” the statement added.

Whether high or low burden, Singh argues that making it happen demands each of them strengthen high-impact, country-led and owned approaches, with civil society playing a key role, as per the theme of this year’s World Malaria Day – ‘zero malaria starts with me’.

Firstly, member states should fully operationalize the 2017 Ministerial Declaration. That means mobilizing adequate and sustained funding for national malaria programmes – including from external partners – and distributing it appropriately and efficiently at every level of implementation, according to Singh.

Secondly, member states should ensure malaria is a notifiable disease and transform surveillance into a core intervention. To that end, Singh points out that cross-border collaboration is crucial.

“A cross-border response will allow authorities to respond to outbreaks more efficiently (especially via complementary initiatives) and better protect vulnerable populations in border areas, which are often malaria-prone. It will also enhance country-to-country capacity building, including in research.”

WHO said it is always committed to providing member states its full technical and operational support to ensure malaria’s burden is lifted region-wide. Achieving that outcome is, however, only possible with the full strength, commitment and resolve of member states, partners, donors and the public alike.

WHO’s South-East Asia Region comprises the following 11 member states: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, India, Indonesia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Timor-Leste.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-04-25', 'modified' => '2019-04-25', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10300', 'image' => '20190425021925_Clipboard01.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-04-25 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10548', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Insurance for Brokers Still Uncertain', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'April 25: Despite the Securities Act 2006 having provision of insurance for securities brokers, no trader has ever purchased any insurance policy till date.', 'content' => '
April 25: Despite the Securities Act 2006 having provision of insurance for securities brokers, no trader has ever purchased any insurance policy till date.

It has been learnt that lack of work procedure to implement the Act has hindered the security traders to purchase insurance policies. The annual report of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) mentions this problem every year, but due to the lack of work procedure, the Act is yet to be implemented for the welfare of the security traders.

According to Neeraj Giri, spokesperson at the Securities Board of Nepal (Sebon), the board is holding discussings to amend the Act. He further said that it has been difficult to implement the Act as there is no ‘insurance product’ with insurance companies for security traders.

Meanwhile, Raju Raman Paudel, executive director at the Insurance Board says, the insurance companies can introduce new policies as per the demand. According to Section 5 of the Act, the security traders should be categorized according to the work performance.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-04-25', 'modified' => '2019-04-25', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10301', 'image' => '20190425024839_20160706023026_gas.JPG', 'article_date' => '2019-04-25 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 1 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10549', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Cross-Border Response Crucial for Defeating Malaria: WHO Regional Director', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'April 25: With the world at a crossroads in the quest to defeat malaria, the WHO South-East Asia Region stands tall, according to WHO Regional Director Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh.', 'content' => '

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-04-25', 'modified' => '2019-04-25', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10300', 'image' => '20190425021925_Clipboard01.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-04-25 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10548', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Insurance for Brokers Still Uncertain', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'April 25: Despite the Securities Act 2006 having provision of insurance for securities brokers, no trader has ever purchased any insurance policy till date.', 'content' => '

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-04-25', 'modified' => '2019-04-25', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10300', 'image' => '20190425021925_Clipboard01.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-04-25 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10548', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Insurance for Brokers Still Uncertain', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'April 25: Despite the Securities Act 2006 having provision of insurance for securities brokers, no trader has ever purchased any insurance policy till date.', 'content' => '

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-04-25', 'modified' => '2019-04-25', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10301', 'image' => '20190425024839_20160706023026_gas.JPG', 'article_date' => '2019-04-25 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 1 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10549', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Cross-Border Response Crucial for Defeating Malaria: WHO Regional Director', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'April 25: With the world at a crossroads in the quest to defeat malaria, the WHO South-East Asia Region stands tall, according to WHO Regional Director Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh.', 'content' => '

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-04-25', 'modified' => '2019-04-25', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10300', 'image' => '20190425021925_Clipboard01.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-04-25 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10548', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Insurance for Brokers Still Uncertain', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'April 25: Despite the Securities Act 2006 having provision of insurance for securities brokers, no trader has ever purchased any insurance policy till date.', 'content' => '
