			'content' => '<p style="text-align: justify;">January 5: : Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) is investing Rs 2.28 billion on &#39;A&#39; listed commercial banks, &#39;B&#39; listed national level development banks and &#39;C&#39; listed national level finance companies. The central bank is investing the funds accumulated in its various trusts as fixed deposits (FD) in the aforementioned banks and financial institutions (BFIs) from January 15 2016 to January 14 2017.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The central bank is investing Rs 1.83 billion as FD in &#39;A&#39; listed commercial bank. Similarly, the bank is investing Rs 343.1 million and Rs 114.3 million as FD in &#39;B&#39; listed and &#39;C&#39; listed BFIs. The bank has applied 11 conditions to invest the fund in the listed BFIs.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The NRB has issued a notice in which the interested BFIs are asked to submitted a duly sealed price quotation form with the specified amount the BFIs willing to take as FD by December 5 1500 hours. The BFIs willing to take the FD must have come into operation for two years and should have minimum capital fund. The BFIs must fulfil the categories including the non-performing loan should be less than 5 per cent of total loan extension, net liquid assets should meet 20 per cent or more of the total domestic deposits will be eligible. According to NRB, the BFIs must have maintained the loan, domestic deposit and primary capital proportion as per the timely set standard by the central bank.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, the BFIs earning operating profit in last FY and having real estate investment not exceeding NRB set limit can also participate in the FD plan. However, BFIs leaded by Directors, CEO or Executive Directors against whom NRB has taken action will not get an opportunity to participate.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, BFIs completing minimum of 6 months from the Prompt Corrective Action taken by NRB can also apply for the deposit. NRB has also set a condition where the BFIs must have issued the shares allocated to general public.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Likewise, the BFIs which are not announced problematic or completed 6 months since announced problem free are also allowed to apply for the fixed deposit of NRB.</p>

As per the modality, the proposed centre will be operated with the engagement the private sector. Speaking in a regular press briefing on January 3 at the ministry, Industry Minister Nabindra Raj Joshi said that the centre will help Nepali and foreign investors to identify investment potentials in various sectors. The proposed Industrial Research Center will have information centers in all seven states and 75 districts of the country in order to facilitate large industries.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>&nbsp;Licenses of inactive mines to be cancelled</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Joshi also informed that the ministry is in a process to improve laws related to mining. According to him, the ministry is preparing to cancel the licenses of inactive mines. &quot;Permission will be only given to those who can optimally utilise mines,&rdquo; he said, adding, &quot;Permission should be given as per the technical abilities of the operators to operate mines.&quot; According to him, a draft of National Mineral Policy has also been prepared for the utilization of mine areas.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Special Economic Zone in seven states</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The government has started preparations to construct Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in all seven states of the country. The proposed SEZs will be established in Biratnagar of Province Number One, Simara of Province Number Two, Panchkhal of Province Number Three, Gorakha of Province Number Four, Bhairawaha of Province Number Five, Jumla of Province Number Six and Dhanghadi of Province Number Seven. According to Joshi, the construction works of three SEZ has already started. &nbsp;Among them, Bhairahawa SEZ has already done agreement with 21 industries and it is in the last stage to start its operation. Joshi informed that the works for Simara SEZ is also going rapidly. The government also has plans to move ahead with the construction works of Industrial Development Estates. He informed that proposal for construction of some industrial estates will be presented to the council of ministers for approval.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Political Commitment for Economic Development</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Minister Joshi said that the International Investors Conference which is scheduled for March 2 and March 3 will give a positive message about the investment environment in Nepal to foreign investors. The ministry is preparing to receive commitment from political parties for economic development in order to assure the international investors regarding the security of investments in the country.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">According to Nawaraj Dhakal, Director of Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC), NEA conducted PPA with three micro hydropower projects with less than 100KW capacity. &quot;A MoU has also been signed between NEA and AEPC to add 10 more projects with capacity of more than 100KW to national transmission line,&quot; Dhakal added, saying, &quot;The step of NEA connecting the national transmission line to the area will increase the utilization of micro hydropower projects.&quot;</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">Such projects which were operated for rural electrification were consecutively closed due to the access of central transmission power. AEPC which is under the Ministry of Population and Environment has vowed to help Energy Ministry to end power cut.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify"><strong>Grid Connected Solar </strong></p>

<p style="text-align:justify">The demand of solar technology for domestic use has gone down due to end of power cuts in Kathmandu Valley and minimisation of power cuts all over the country. However, the solar technology for street lights has increased compared to earlier. &quot;The concept of grid connected solar is being put forward with a target to fulfill the growing demand of electricity,&quot; Dhakal said. &quot;Its initial use will be done by installing solar panel on the terrace of offices inside Singhadurbar and the produced electricity will be connected to grid and distributed in the related offices.&quot; Though the plan was formulated two years ago, it has not been implemented till date.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">The 18KW solar mini grid which was installed in Tanahun, Baidi VDC-2, Dubung one year ago is still in operation. <p style="text-align: justify;">Many services provided by the ISPs used to be based on wireless service till two years ago. 60 percent of internet services in the country were based on wireless technology till October 2015 while the remaining were dial-up and cable based. However, in the recent time, ISPs are focused on providing cable internet services compared to wireless.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to statistics of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) published in August/September, the share of wireless internet has reduced to around 30 percent of the overall services. The statistics which comprised of the customers of 26 different service providers shows that the ISPs have expanded their services to 132,825 customers. Among them, 109,739 customers are using cable internet, 4,474 are using dial-up and remaining 48,612 are wireless modem users. Two years ago, customers using wireless internet were more than 64,000. As per the NTA data, cable modem is replacing the wireless modem for internet services. Suman Lal Pradhan, President of Internet Service Provider of Nepal (ISPN) accepts the weaknesses of ISPs regarding the declining use of wireless technology.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, telecom services providers have been successful to capture a large portion of the internet services due to wireless technology. Wireless technology is based on frequency. ISPs have been providing wireless services through non-commercial frequencies. They have been providing internet services through normal frequencies that are being used in homes and offices due to the lack of the commercial frequency.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">With the expansion of internet services, users are attracted towards high speed internet in the recent years. NTA has not distributed commercial frequency to the ISPs though it has been already decided to distribute frequency. &ldquo;NTA has prepared a modality for the distribution,&rdquo; says Min Prasad Aryal, Spokesperson of NTA. He further adds that the Authority has already sent a proposal that includes frequency auction modality and base price to the Ministry. &ldquo;The distribution process will move ahead after we get approval from the Ministry,&rdquo; he informs.&nbsp;</p>

			'content' => '<p style="text-align: justify;">January 5: : Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) is investing Rs 2.28 billion on &#39;A&#39; listed commercial banks, &#39;B&#39; listed national level development banks and &#39;C&#39; listed national level finance companies. The central bank is investing the funds accumulated in its various trusts as fixed deposits (FD) in the aforementioned banks and financial institutions (BFIs) from January 15 2016 to January 14 2017.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The central bank is investing Rs 1.83 billion as FD in &#39;A&#39; listed commercial bank. Similarly, the bank is investing Rs 343.1 million and Rs 114.3 million as FD in &#39;B&#39; listed and &#39;C&#39; listed BFIs. The bank has applied 11 conditions to invest the fund in the listed BFIs.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The NRB has issued a notice in which the interested BFIs are asked to submitted a duly sealed price quotation form with the specified amount the BFIs willing to take as FD by December 5 1500 hours. The BFIs willing to take the FD must have come into operation for two years and should have minimum capital fund. The BFIs must fulfil the categories including the non-performing loan should be less than 5 per cent of total loan extension, net liquid assets should meet 20 per cent or more of the total domestic deposits will be eligible. According to NRB, the BFIs must have maintained the loan, domestic deposit and primary capital proportion as per the timely set standard by the central bank.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, the BFIs earning operating profit in last FY and having real estate investment not exceeding NRB set limit can also participate in the FD plan. However, BFIs leaded by Directors, CEO or Executive Directors against whom NRB has taken action will not get an opportunity to participate.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, BFIs completing minimum of 6 months from the Prompt Corrective Action taken by NRB can also apply for the deposit. NRB has also set a condition where the BFIs must have issued the shares allocated to general public.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Likewise, the BFIs which are not announced problematic or completed 6 months since announced problem free are also allowed to apply for the fixed deposit of NRB.</p>

As per the modality, the proposed centre will be operated with the engagement the private sector. Speaking in a regular press briefing on January 3 at the ministry, Industry Minister Nabindra Raj Joshi said that the centre will help Nepali and foreign investors to identify investment potentials in various sectors. The proposed Industrial Research Center will have information centers in all seven states and 75 districts of the country in order to facilitate large industries.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>&nbsp;Licenses of inactive mines to be cancelled</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Joshi also informed that the ministry is in a process to improve laws related to mining. According to him, the ministry is preparing to cancel the licenses of inactive mines. &quot;Permission will be only given to those who can optimally utilise mines,&rdquo; he said, adding, &quot;Permission should be given as per the technical abilities of the operators to operate mines.&quot; According to him, a draft of National Mineral Policy has also been prepared for the utilization of mine areas.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Special Economic Zone in seven states</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The government has started preparations to construct Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in all seven states of the country. The proposed SEZs will be established in Biratnagar of Province Number One, Simara of Province Number Two, Panchkhal of Province Number Three, Gorakha of Province Number Four, Bhairawaha of Province Number Five, Jumla of Province Number Six and Dhanghadi of Province Number Seven. According to Joshi, the construction works of three SEZ has already started. &nbsp;Among them, Bhairahawa SEZ has already done agreement with 21 industries and it is in the last stage to start its operation. Joshi informed that the works for Simara SEZ is also going rapidly. The government also has plans to move ahead with the construction works of Industrial Development Estates. He informed that proposal for construction of some industrial estates will be presented to the council of ministers for approval.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Political Commitment for Economic Development</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Minister Joshi said that the International Investors Conference which is scheduled for March 2 and March 3 will give a positive message about the investment environment in Nepal to foreign investors. The ministry is preparing to receive commitment from political parties for economic development in order to assure the international investors regarding the security of investments in the country.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">According to Nawaraj Dhakal, Director of Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC), NEA conducted PPA with three micro hydropower projects with less than 100KW capacity. &quot;A MoU has also been signed between NEA and AEPC to add 10 more projects with capacity of more than 100KW to national transmission line,&quot; Dhakal added, saying, &quot;The step of NEA connecting the national transmission line to the area will increase the utilization of micro hydropower projects.&quot;</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">Such projects which were operated for rural electrification were consecutively closed due to the access of central transmission power. AEPC which is under the Ministry of Population and Environment has vowed to help Energy Ministry to end power cut.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify"><strong>Grid Connected Solar </strong></p>

<p style="text-align:justify">The demand of solar technology for domestic use has gone down due to end of power cuts in Kathmandu Valley and minimisation of power cuts all over the country. However, the solar technology for street lights has increased compared to earlier. &quot;The concept of grid connected solar is being put forward with a target to fulfill the growing demand of electricity,&quot; Dhakal said. &quot;Its initial use will be done by installing solar panel on the terrace of offices inside Singhadurbar and the produced electricity will be connected to grid and distributed in the related offices.&quot; Though the plan was formulated two years ago, it has not been implemented till date.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">The 18KW solar mini grid which was installed in Tanahun, Baidi VDC-2, Dubung one year ago is still in operation. The project was developed with the total cost of 15.49 million in which Rs 13.39 million was invested by AEPC, IPAD and UNSCAP and Rs 2.1 million by Saral Urja Nepal.&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Many services provided by the ISPs used to be based on wireless service till two years ago. 60 percent of internet services in the country were based on wireless technology till October 2015 while the remaining were dial-up and cable based. However, in the recent time, ISPs are focused on providing cable internet services compared to wireless.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to statistics of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) published in August/September, the share of wireless internet has reduced to around 30 percent of the overall services. The statistics which comprised of the customers of 26 different service providers shows that the ISPs have expanded their services to 132,825 customers. Among them, 109,739 customers are using cable internet, 4,474 are using dial-up and remaining 48,612 are wireless modem users. Two years ago, customers using wireless internet were more than 64,000. As per the NTA data, cable modem is replacing the wireless modem for internet services. Suman Lal Pradhan, President of Internet Service Provider of Nepal (ISPN) accepts the weaknesses of ISPs regarding the declining use of wireless technology.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, telecom services providers have been successful to capture a large portion of the internet services due to wireless technology. Wireless technology is based on frequency. ISPs have been providing wireless services through non-commercial frequencies. They have been providing internet services through normal frequencies that are being used in homes and offices due to the lack of the commercial frequency.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">With the expansion of internet services, users are attracted towards high speed internet in the recent years. NTA has not distributed commercial frequency to the ISPs though it has been already decided to distribute frequency. &ldquo;NTA has prepared a modality for the distribution,&rdquo; says Min Prasad Aryal, Spokesperson of NTA. He further adds that the Authority has already sent a proposal that includes frequency auction modality and base price to the Ministry. &ldquo;The distribution process will move ahead after we get approval from the Ministry,&rdquo; he informs.&nbsp;</p>

The central bank is investing the funds accumulated in its various trusts as fixed deposits (FD) in the aforementioned banks and financial institutions (BFIs) from January 15 2016 to January 14 2017.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The central bank is investing Rs 1.83 billion as FD in &#39;A&#39; listed commercial bank. Similarly, the bank is investing Rs 343.1 million and Rs 114.3 million as FD in &#39;B&#39; listed and &#39;C&#39; listed BFIs. The bank has applied 11 conditions to invest the fund in the listed BFIs.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The NRB has issued a notice in which the interested BFIs are asked to submitted a duly sealed price quotation form with the specified amount the BFIs willing to take as FD by December 5 1500 hours. The BFIs willing to take the FD must have come into operation for two years and should have minimum capital fund. The BFIs must fulfil the categories including the non-performing loan should be less than 5 per cent of total loan extension, net liquid assets should meet 20 per cent or more of the total domestic deposits will be eligible. According to NRB, the BFIs must have maintained the loan, domestic deposit and primary capital proportion as per the timely set standard by the central bank.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, the BFIs earning operating profit in last FY and having real estate investment not exceeding NRB set limit can also participate in the FD plan. However, BFIs leaded by Directors, CEO or Executive Directors against whom NRB has taken action will not get an opportunity to participate.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, BFIs completing minimum of 6 months from the Prompt Corrective Action taken by NRB can also apply for the deposit. NRB has also set a condition where the BFIs must have issued the shares allocated to general public.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Likewise, the BFIs which are not announced problematic or completed 6 months since announced problem free are also allowed to apply for the fixed deposit of NRB.</p>

The proposed Industrial Research Center will have information centers in all seven states and 75 districts of the country in order to facilitate large industries.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>&nbsp;Licenses of inactive mines to be cancelled</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Joshi also informed that the ministry is in a process to improve laws related to mining. According to him, the ministry is preparing to cancel the licenses of inactive mines. &quot;Permission will be only given to those who can optimally utilise mines,&rdquo; he said, adding, &quot;Permission should be given as per the technical abilities of the operators to operate mines.&quot; According to him, a draft of National Mineral Policy has also been prepared for the utilization of mine areas.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Special Economic Zone in seven states</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The government has started preparations to construct Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in all seven states of the country. The proposed SEZs will be established in Biratnagar of Province Number One, Simara of Province Number Two, Panchkhal of Province Number Three, Gorakha of Province Number Four, Bhairawaha of Province Number Five, Jumla of Province Number Six and Dhanghadi of Province Number Seven. According to Joshi, the construction works of three SEZ has already started. &nbsp;Among them, Bhairahawa SEZ has already done agreement with 21 industries and it is in the last stage to start its operation. Joshi informed that the works for Simara SEZ is also going rapidly. The government also has plans to move ahead with the construction works of Industrial Development Estates. He informed that proposal for construction of some industrial estates will be presented to the council of ministers for approval.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Political Commitment for Economic Development</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Minister Joshi said that the International Investors Conference which is scheduled for March 2 and March 3 will give a positive message about the investment environment in Nepal to foreign investors. The ministry is preparing to receive commitment from political parties for economic development in order to assure the international investors regarding the security of investments in the country.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">Such projects which were operated for rural electrification were consecutively closed due to the access of central transmission power. AEPC which is under the Ministry of Population and Environment has vowed to help Energy Ministry to end power cut.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">The demand of solar technology for domestic use has gone down due to end of power cuts in Kathmandu Valley and minimisation of power cuts all over the country. However, the solar technology for street lights has increased compared to earlier. &quot;The concept of grid connected solar is being put forward with a target to fulfill the growing demand of electricity,&quot; Dhakal said. &quot;Its initial use will be done by installing solar panel on the terrace of offices inside Singhadurbar and the produced electricity will be connected to grid and distributed in the related offices.&quot; Though the plan was formulated two years ago, it has not been implemented till date.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">The 18KW solar mini grid which was installed in Tanahun, Baidi VDC-2, Dubung one year ago is still in operation. <p style="text-align: justify;">Many services provided by the ISPs used to be based on wireless service till two years ago. 60 percent of internet services in the country were based on wireless technology till October 2015 while the remaining were dial-up and cable based. However, in the recent time, ISPs are focused on providing cable internet services compared to wireless.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to statistics of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) published in August/September, the share of wireless internet has reduced to around 30 percent of the overall services. The statistics which comprised of the customers of 26 different service providers shows that the ISPs have expanded their services to 132,825 customers. Among them, 109,739 customers are using cable internet, 4,474 are using dial-up and remaining 48,612 are wireless modem users. Two years ago, customers using wireless internet were more than 64,000. As per the NTA data, cable modem is replacing the wireless modem for internet services. Suman Lal Pradhan, President of Internet Service Provider of Nepal (ISPN) accepts the weaknesses of ISPs regarding the declining use of wireless technology.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, telecom services providers have been successful to capture a large portion of the internet services due to wireless technology. Wireless technology is based on frequency. ISPs have been providing wireless services through non-commercial frequencies. They have been providing internet services through normal frequencies that are being used in homes and offices due to the lack of the commercial frequency.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">With the expansion of internet services, users are attracted towards high speed internet in the recent years. NTA has not distributed commercial frequency to the ISPs though it has been already decided to distribute frequency. &ldquo;NTA has prepared a modality for the distribution,&rdquo; says Min Prasad Aryal, Spokesperson of NTA. He further adds that the Authority has already sent a proposal that includes frequency auction modality and base price to the Ministry. &ldquo;The distribution process will move ahead after we get approval from the Ministry,&rdquo; he informs.&nbsp;</p>

			'content' => '<p style="text-align: justify;">January 5: : Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) is investing Rs 2.28 billion on &#39;A&#39; listed commercial banks, &#39;B&#39; listed national level development banks and &#39;C&#39; listed national level finance companies. The central bank is investing the funds accumulated in its various trusts as fixed deposits (FD) in the aforementioned banks and financial institutions (BFIs) from January 15 2016 to January 14 2017.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The central bank is investing Rs 1.83 billion as FD in &#39;A&#39; listed commercial bank. Similarly, the bank is investing Rs 343.1 million and Rs 114.3 million as FD in &#39;B&#39; listed and &#39;C&#39; listed BFIs. The bank has applied 11 conditions to invest the fund in the listed BFIs.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The NRB has issued a notice in which the interested BFIs are asked to submitted a duly sealed price quotation form with the specified amount the BFIs willing to take as FD by December 5 1500 hours. The BFIs willing to take the FD must have come into operation for two years and should have minimum capital fund. The BFIs must fulfil the categories including the non-performing loan should be less than 5 per cent of total loan extension, net liquid assets should meet 20 per cent or more of the total domestic deposits will be eligible. According to NRB, the BFIs must have maintained the loan, domestic deposit and primary capital proportion as per the timely set standard by the central bank.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, the BFIs earning operating profit in last FY and having real estate investment not exceeding NRB set limit can also participate in the FD plan. However, BFIs leaded by Directors, CEO or Executive Directors against whom NRB has taken action will not get an opportunity to participate.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, BFIs completing minimum of 6 months from the Prompt Corrective Action taken by NRB can also apply for the deposit. NRB has also set a condition where the BFIs must have issued the shares allocated to general public.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Likewise, the BFIs which are not announced problematic or completed 6 months since announced problem free are also allowed to apply for the fixed deposit of NRB.</p>

Speaking in a regular press briefing on January 3 at the ministry, Industry Minister Nabindra Raj Joshi said that the centre will help Nepali and foreign investors to identify investment potentials in various sectors. The proposed Industrial Research Center will have information centers in all seven states and 75 districts of the country in order to facilitate large industries.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>&nbsp;Licenses of inactive mines to be cancelled</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Joshi also informed that the ministry is in a process to improve laws related to mining. According to him, the ministry is preparing to cancel the licenses of inactive mines. &quot;Permission will be only given to those who can optimally utilise mines,&rdquo; he said, adding, &quot;Permission should be given as per the technical abilities of the operators to operate mines.&quot; According to him, a draft of National Mineral Policy has also been prepared for the utilization of mine areas.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Special Economic Zone in seven states</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The government has started preparations to construct Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in all seven states of the country. The proposed SEZs will be established in Biratnagar of Province Number One, Simara of Province Number Two, Panchkhal of Province Number Three, Gorakha of Province Number Four, Bhairawaha of Province Number Five, Jumla of Province Number Six and Dhanghadi of Province Number Seven. According to Joshi, the construction works of three SEZ has already started. &nbsp;Among them, Bhairahawa SEZ has already done agreement with 21 industries and it is in the last stage to start its operation. Joshi informed that the works for Simara SEZ is also going rapidly. The government also has plans to move ahead with the construction works of Industrial Development Estates. He informed that proposal for construction of some industrial estates will be presented to the council of ministers for approval.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Political Commitment for Economic Development</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Minister Joshi said that the International Investors Conference which is scheduled for March 2 and March 3 will give a positive message about the investment environment in Nepal to foreign investors. The ministry is preparing to receive commitment from political parties for economic development in order to assure the international investors regarding the security of investments in the country.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">According to Nawaraj Dhakal, Director of Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC), NEA conducted PPA with three micro hydropower projects with less than 100KW capacity. &quot;A MoU has also been signed between NEA and AEPC to add 10 more projects with capacity of more than 100KW to national transmission line,&quot; Dhakal added, saying, &quot;The step of NEA connecting the national transmission line to the area will increase the utilization of micro hydropower projects.&quot;</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">Such projects which were operated for rural electrification were consecutively closed due to the access of central transmission power. AEPC which is under the Ministry of Population and Environment has vowed to help Energy Ministry to end power cut.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify"><strong>Grid Connected Solar </strong></p>

<p style="text-align:justify">The demand of solar technology for domestic use has gone down due to end of power cuts in Kathmandu Valley and minimisation of power cuts all over the country. However, the solar technology for street lights has increased compared to earlier. &quot;The concept of grid connected solar is being put forward with a target to fulfill the growing demand of electricity,&quot; Dhakal said. &quot;Its initial use will be done by installing solar panel on the terrace of offices inside Singhadurbar and the produced electricity will be connected to grid and distributed in the related offices.&quot; Though the plan was formulated two years ago, it has not been implemented till date.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify">The 18KW solar mini grid which was installed in Tanahun, Baidi VDC-2, Dubung one year ago is still in operation. The project was developed with the total cost of 15.49 million in which Rs 13.39 million was invested by AEPC, IPAD and UNSCAP and Rs 2.1 million by Saral Urja Nepal.&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Many services provided by the ISPs used to be based on wireless service till two years ago. 60 percent of internet services in the country were based on wireless technology till October 2015 while the remaining were dial-up and cable based. However, in the recent time, ISPs are focused on providing cable internet services compared to wireless.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to statistics of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) published in August/September, the share of wireless internet has reduced to around 30 percent of the overall services. The statistics which comprised of the customers of 26 different service providers shows that the ISPs have expanded their services to 132,825 customers. Among them, 109,739 customers are using cable internet, 4,474 are using dial-up and remaining 48,612 are wireless modem users. Two years ago, customers using wireless internet were more than 64,000. As per the NTA data, cable modem is replacing the wireless modem for internet services. Suman Lal Pradhan, President of Internet Service Provider of Nepal (ISPN) accepts the weaknesses of ISPs regarding the declining use of wireless technology.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, telecom services providers have been successful to capture a large portion of the internet services due to wireless technology. Wireless technology is based on frequency. ISPs have been providing wireless services through non-commercial frequencies. They have been providing internet services through normal frequencies that are being used in homes and offices due to the lack of the commercial frequency.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">With the expansion of internet services, users are attracted towards high speed internet in the recent years. NTA has not distributed commercial frequency to the ISPs though it has been already decided to distribute frequency. &ldquo;NTA has prepared a modality for the distribution,&rdquo; says Min Prasad Aryal, Spokesperson of NTA. He further adds that the Authority has already sent a proposal that includes frequency auction modality and base price to the Ministry. &ldquo;The distribution process will move ahead after we get approval from the Ministry,&rdquo; he informs.&nbsp;</p>
