<p>The ten finalists namely Hamro Doctor, AgroMart, AI pani, AgroTech, FARM, Swasthya Manch, Avacados and More, Spring Sanitary Napkins, Rasbin Enterprises and Agro-shelter gave presentation about how their businesses have been creating impact in the society.</p>

<p>The Social Business Challenge observed a total of 50 participants including social enterprises from the capital and some other places like Biratnagar, Janakpur, Chitwan and Birgunj.</p>

<p>Prior to the grand finale, Yunus Centre and King&#39;s College had organised workshops focused on social enterprise, social entrepreneurship and business model canvas in all these places.</p>

<p>The property details of nine individuals and organisations including former governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr Tilak Rawal along with Himalaya Bahadur Pandey, Prithvi Bahadur Pande, Rama Rajya Laxmi Pande, Keshav Khatri, Upendra Keshari Paudel and institutions including Mayflower Private Limited, Global Group Private Limited and Super Tristar Investment will be sent to Australia. The Supreme Court in August 2016 issued an order to forward the property details of the alleged individuals to the Australian government.</p>

<p>After the Supreme Court&rsquo;s order, the Ministry of Law and Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) have been working in this regard.</p>

<p>According to the government, the individuals and organizations had a main role in the issuance of the 10-rupee polymer note in Nepal.</p>

<p>Dilli Raj Ghimire, joint secretary and spokesperson of the Ministry of Law, said that the ministry has been preparing to send the details as per the request of the Australian government.</p>

<p>&quot;Every concerned authorities are working from their side and the process of collecting the property details has almost reached the last stage,&quot; he said.</p>

<p>When Dr Rawal was the governor of NRB, the contract to print the 10-rupee polymer note was given to a company named Note Printing Australia Limited. It was said that the printed notes were of low standard. The Australian government initiated an investigation on the concerned authorities there to see if there has been any corruption in the process.</p>

<p>To help in the investigation process, the Australian government had requested the Government of Nepal through diplomatic channel to send property details of those individuals and organisations in 2013.</p>

<p>Majority of the accused had filed writ petitions against the process but the Supreme Court quashed the writs.</p>

<p>However, after the Supreme Court gave an interim order to send the property details as per the request of the Australian government, the officials of the Ministry of Law and NRB moved forward with the process.</p>

<p>Backing the cases of the petitioners, the lawyers argued that the privacy of Nepal will be infringed upon if the property details are sent to other countries. They said such decision will also affect the general public&rsquo;s view towards the reliability of banks.</p>

<p>&nbsp;According to Clause 5 of the Mutual Legal Assistance Act- 2014, Nepal cannot collect and provide documents or proofs, examine any places or things and send the information, or collect and send the archive of banks, BFIs or any business or provide the information about criminal cases to foreign countries even when they request for it.&nbsp;</p>

This is one of the prime reasons for the continued import of diesel and petrol at the same level despite the load-shedding hours being reduced significantly.</p>

<p>According to Sharad Kumar Gauchan, president of the Federation of Contractors&rsquo; Association Nepal (FCAN), altogether 8,000 heavy equipment are in operation round the clock at present. This is just the record maintained by the entrepreneurs affiliated to the federation.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We cannot ascertain the number of equipment that is in use of the contractors who are not associated with us,&rdquo; said Gauchan.</p>

<p>Vice President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Bishnu Kumar Agrawal, had said in a public function that there had been a 200 percent increase in the import of heavy equipment last year. Agrawal himself is a heavy equipment dealer.</p>

<p>The data presented by Agrawal implies that there has been an increase in the import of petroleum products in proportion to the increase in import of such equipment.</p>

<p>Besides the heavy equipment, lots of other machineries that operate on petroleum products are used for the development works. The increase in budget for development works and the subsequent increase in expenditure of the budget indicate that there has been a rise in use of heavy equipment every year.</p>

<p>The immediate past president of FCAN, Jayaram Lamichhane, says that it is essential to import diesel for the machineries for the development works despite having sufficient electricity.</p>

<p>&ldquo;It is necessary to evaluate why the import of petrol has not declined,&rdquo; said Lamichhane, adding, &ldquo;If we are to expedite development works, the import of diesel will increase unimaginably.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Lamichhane says that the current rate of increase in development works would result in 50 percent increase in import of petroleum products every year.</p>

<p>The government has allocated Rs 126.40 billion as development budget for the fiscal year 2074/75. It has been estimated that around 84 percent of the development budget set for the current fiscal year 2073/74 would be spent by the end of this month.</p>

<p>As per a news report of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), investments in large scale and medium scale industries along with small scale industries with foreign investments has increased in the FY2016/2017 compared to FY 2015/2016.</p>

<p>In the last fiscal year, investment in large, medium and small scale industries with foreign investments totaled Rs 122.7 billion whereas, it is Rs 145.84 billion till date in the current fiscal year.</p>

<p>According to Durga Prasad Bhusal, Spokesperson at the Department of Industry (DoI), 410 industries were registered in the last fiscal year whereas, 433 industries have been registered in the current fiscal year so far.</p>

<p>According to RSS, out of the total industries, 22 agriculture and forest-based, two construction, eight information, broadcasting and communication, 16 energy-oriented, 109 manufacturing, three mineral-based, 141 service-oriented and 132 tourism-oriented industries have been registered at the DoI.</p>

<p>Previously, the Department used to register industries with investment size ranging from Rs 30 million to Rs 100 million under medium scale industries and those with investment exceeding Rs 100 million under large scale industries.</p>

<p>But with the changes in the capital requirement in the current fiscal year, industries with investment ranging from Rs 100 million to Rs 250 million are registered as medium scale industries and those with investment exceeding Rs 250 million are registered as large scale industries.</p>

<p>Among the industries registered at the Department, 87 are large scale, 76 medium scale and 270 small industries with foreign investments.&nbsp; According to DoI, Rs 130.36 billion, Rs 1.27 billion and Rs 1.52 billion have been invested in large, medium and small industries with foreign investment respectively.</p>

<p>In the last fiscal year, 77 large scale, 72 medium scale industries along with 261 small industries with foreign investments were registered at the department.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, small industries with domestic investments are registered at the Cottage and Small Scale Industry Development Committee. DoI is authorised to only register small scale industries with investment not more than Rs 100 million in this regard.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Bhusal, the increase in the industrial sector is a result of the efforts of former Industry Minister Navindra Raj Joshi to create a favourable investment environment. He said that promulgation of the constitution and the local level elections have also encouraged investors to feel more secure.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment in new large scale hotels is increasing rapidly with the increase in attraction of private investors towards hotel sector. During the period of last one year, around 50 hotels have started operation in Pokhara, a world renowned tourist area.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&ldquo;Small scale to 5-star hotels will be opened,&rdquo; said Bikal Tulachan, President of Western Regional Hotel Association. &ldquo;Investment in hospitality sector of Pokhara has increased a lot and around additional 50 hotels will be opened till the upcoming Dashain festival. Last year, around 30 hotels were established.&rdquo; he further informed.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Currently, around 650 hotels are operating in and around Pokhara with around 400 hotels affiliated to the association itself.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Almost all the new hotels have space of over 30 rooms each. Most of the hotels are being established near lake-side area and some hotels in Begnas lake, Rupakot, Sarangkot, Naudada, Kandanidada, Pumdibhumdi, Dhampush area, informed Tulachan.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment of around Rs. 100 million is made even in the small scale tourist-based hotels. Whereas, more than Rs. 1 billion is being invested in large scale hotels, said Tulachan. More than 50 thousand people are employed directly or indirectly under the hotel industry in Pokhara.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Well- facilitated hotels should be increased in Pokhara rather than increasing the number of hotels, said Naresh Bhattarai, Managing Director of Mount Kailash Resort of Pokhara.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment in the hotel sector has increased also due to further process in establishment of international level hotels and international airport in Pokhara, presumes Bhattarai.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Currently, more than 16 thousand beds are available in hotels of Pokhara. Also, Tulachan estimates the number to be increased by 2,500 beds in the current fiscal year itself. Tulachan explained that investment in hotel sector increased due to interest shown by financial institutions towards it.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Hotel industry affected due to the devastating earthquake two years ago and the subsequent blockade in the border is slowly achieving success. Though the number of Chinese tourists has decreased compared to that of before earthquake, increase in number of Indian tourists is seen at present.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Hotels of Pokhara have made an important contribution to the tourism development sector of Nepal. &ldquo;Jaun hai Pokhara&rdquo;(let&#39;s visit Pokhara) and &ldquo;Chaliye Pokhara&rdquo; campaign organized by tourism entrepreneurs is also attracting tourists, informed Bharat Raj Parajuli, Vice President of Western Regional Hotel Association. He blamed that the government is indifferent towards tourism sector of Pokhara, despite private sector contributing to it.</p>

According to LifeCom, the company introduced the dedicated studios in order to encourage more prospective consumers to become Lenovo smartphone owners. &ldquo;We are planning to open up such showrooms throughout the nation.&rdquo; said Amit Agrawal, Managing Director of LifeCom. The two showrooms are the first exclusive outlets of the Chinese handset brand Lenovo in Nepal.</p>

<p>Similarly, the bank would invest Rs. 28 billion in the settlement development and systematic urbanization project of Terai-Madhes, informed Minister Karki. Though the project covers 22 districts in Terai, the bank will be investing in seven districts in the initial phase.</p>

<p>The property details of nine individuals and organisations including former governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr Tilak Rawal along with Himalaya Bahadur Pandey, Prithvi Bahadur Pande, Rama Rajya Laxmi Pande, Keshav Khatri, Upendra Keshari Paudel and institutions including Mayflower Private Limited, Global Group Private Limited and Super Tristar Investment will be sent to Australia. The Supreme Court in August 2016 issued an order to forward the property details of the alleged individuals to the Australian government.</p>

<p>After the Supreme Court&rsquo;s order, the Ministry of Law and Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) have been working in this regard.</p>

<p>According to the government, the individuals and organizations had a main role in the issuance of the 10-rupee polymer note in Nepal.</p>

<p>Dilli Raj Ghimire, joint secretary and spokesperson of the Ministry of Law, said that the ministry has been preparing to send the details as per the request of the Australian government.</p>

<p>&quot;Every concerned authorities are working from their side and the process of collecting the property details has almost reached the last stage,&quot; he said.</p>

<p>When Dr Rawal was the governor of NRB, the contract to print the 10-rupee polymer note was given to a company named Note Printing Australia Limited. It was said that the printed notes were of low standard. The Australian government initiated an investigation on the concerned authorities there to see if there has been any corruption in the process.</p>

<p>To help in the investigation process, the Australian government had requested the Government of Nepal through diplomatic channel to send property details of those individuals and organisations in 2013.</p>

<p>Majority of the accused had filed writ petitions against the process but the Supreme Court quashed the writs.</p>

<p>However, after the Supreme Court gave an interim order to send the property details as per the request of the Australian government, the officials of the Ministry of Law and NRB moved forward with the process.</p>

<p>Backing the cases of the petitioners, the lawyers argued that the privacy of Nepal will be infringed upon if the property details are sent to other countries. They said such decision will also affect the general public&rsquo;s view towards the reliability of banks.</p>

<p>&nbsp;According to Clause 5 of the Mutual Legal Assistance Act- 2014, Nepal cannot collect and provide documents or proofs, examine any places or things and send the information, or collect and send the archive of banks, BFIs or any business or provide the information about criminal cases to foreign countries even when they request for it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Sharad Kumar Gauchan, president of the Federation of Contractors&rsquo; Association Nepal (FCAN), altogether 8,000 heavy equipment are in operation round the clock at present. This is just the record maintained by the entrepreneurs affiliated to the federation.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We cannot ascertain the number of equipment that is in use of the contractors who are not associated with us,&rdquo; said Gauchan.</p>

<p>Vice President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Bishnu Kumar Agrawal, had said in a public function that there had been a 200 percent increase in the import of heavy equipment last year. Agrawal himself is a heavy equipment dealer.</p>

<p>The data presented by Agrawal implies that there has been an increase in the import of petroleum products in proportion to the increase in import of such equipment.</p>

<p>Besides the heavy equipment, lots of other machineries that operate on petroleum products are used for the development works. The increase in budget for development works and the subsequent increase in expenditure of the budget indicate that there has been a rise in use of heavy equipment every year.</p>

<p>The immediate past president of FCAN, Jayaram Lamichhane, says that it is essential to import diesel for the machineries for the development works despite having sufficient electricity.</p>

<p>&ldquo;It is necessary to evaluate why the import of petrol has not declined,&rdquo; said Lamichhane, adding, &ldquo;If we are to expedite development works, the import of diesel will increase unimaginably.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Lamichhane says that the current rate of increase in development works would result in 50 percent increase in import of petroleum products every year.</p>

<p>The government has allocated Rs 126.40 billion as development budget for the fiscal year 2074/75. It has been estimated that around 84 percent of the development budget set for the current fiscal year 2073/74 would be spent by the end of this month.</p>

<p>As per a news report of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), investments in large scale and medium scale industries along with small scale industries with foreign investments has increased in the FY2016/2017 compared to FY 2015/2016.</p>

<p>In the last fiscal year, investment in large, medium and small scale industries with foreign investments totaled Rs 122.7 billion whereas, it is Rs 145.84 billion till date in the current fiscal year.</p>

<p>According to Durga Prasad Bhusal, Spokesperson at the Department of Industry (DoI), 410 industries were registered in the last fiscal year whereas, 433 industries have been registered in the current fiscal year so far.</p>

<p>According to RSS, out of the total industries, 22 agriculture and forest-based, two construction, eight information, broadcasting and communication, 16 energy-oriented, 109 manufacturing, three mineral-based, 141 service-oriented and 132 tourism-oriented industries have been registered at the DoI.</p>

<p>Previously, the Department used to register industries with investment size ranging from Rs 30 million to Rs 100 million under medium scale industries and those with investment exceeding Rs 100 million under large scale industries.</p>

<p>But with the changes in the capital requirement in the current fiscal year, industries with investment ranging from Rs 100 million to Rs 250 million are registered as medium scale industries and those with investment exceeding Rs 250 million are registered as large scale industries.</p>

<p>Among the industries registered at the Department, 87 are large scale, 76 medium scale and 270 small industries with foreign investments.&nbsp; According to DoI, Rs 130.36 billion, Rs 1.27 billion and Rs 1.52 billion have been invested in large, medium and small industries with foreign investment respectively.</p>

<p>In the last fiscal year, 77 large scale, 72 medium scale industries along with 261 small industries with foreign investments were registered at the department.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment in new large scale hotels is increasing rapidly with the increase in attraction of private investors towards hotel sector. During the period of last one year, around 50 hotels have started operation in Pokhara, a world renowned tourist area.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&ldquo;Small scale to 5-star hotels will be opened,&rdquo; said Bikal Tulachan, President of Western Regional Hotel Association. &ldquo;Investment in hospitality sector of Pokhara has increased a lot and around additional 50 hotels will be opened till the upcoming Dashain festival. Last year, around 30 hotels were established.&rdquo; he further informed.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Currently, around 650 hotels are operating in and around Pokhara with around 400 hotels affiliated to the association itself.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Almost all the new hotels have space of over 30 rooms each. Most of the hotels are being established near lake-side area and some hotels in Begnas lake, Rupakot, Sarangkot, Naudada, Kandanidada, Pumdibhumdi, Dhampush area, informed Tulachan.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment of around Rs. 100 million is made even in the small scale tourist-based hotels. Whereas, more than Rs. 1 billion is being invested in large scale hotels, said Tulachan. More than 50 thousand people are employed directly or indirectly under the hotel industry in Pokhara.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Well- facilitated hotels should be increased in Pokhara rather than increasing the number of hotels, said Naresh Bhattarai, Managing Director of Mount Kailash Resort of Pokhara.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment in the hotel sector has increased also due to further process in establishment of international level hotels and international airport in Pokhara, presumes Bhattarai.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Currently, more than 16 thousand beds are available in hotels of Pokhara. Also, Tulachan estimates the number to be increased by 2,500 beds in the current fiscal year itself. Tulachan explained that investment in hotel sector increased due to interest shown by financial institutions towards it.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Hotel industry affected due to the devastating earthquake two years ago and the subsequent blockade in the border is slowly achieving success. Though the number of Chinese tourists has decreased compared to that of before earthquake, increase in number of Indian tourists is seen at present.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Hotels of Pokhara have made an important contribution to the tourism development sector of Nepal. &ldquo;Jaun hai Pokhara&rdquo;(let&#39;s visit Pokhara) and &ldquo;Chaliye Pokhara&rdquo; campaign organized by tourism entrepreneurs is also attracting tourists, informed Bharat Raj Parajuli, Vice President of Western Regional Hotel Association. He blamed that the government is indifferent towards tourism sector of Pokhara, despite private sector contributing to it.</p>

<p>The bank said that Rs. 10 billion would be invested in the Electricity Distribution Improvement Project of the Kathmandu valley. Electricity Distribution system of Kathmandu valley is not being improved for the last 20 years.</p>

<p>Similarly, the bank would invest Rs. 28 billion in the settlement development and systematic urbanization project of Terai-Madhes, informed Minister Karki. Though the project covers 22 districts in Terai, the bank will be investing in seven districts in the initial phase.</p>

<p>The property details of nine individuals and organisations including former governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr Tilak Rawal along with Himalaya Bahadur Pandey, Prithvi Bahadur Pande, Rama Rajya Laxmi Pande, Keshav Khatri, Upendra Keshari Paudel and institutions including Mayflower Private Limited, Global Group Private Limited and Super Tristar Investment will be sent to Australia. The Supreme Court in August 2016 issued an order to forward the property details of the alleged individuals to the Australian government.</p>

<p>After the Supreme Court&rsquo;s order, the Ministry of Law and Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) have been working in this regard.</p>

<p>According to the government, the individuals and organizations had a main role in the issuance of the 10-rupee polymer note in Nepal.</p>

<p>Dilli Raj Ghimire, joint secretary and spokesperson of the Ministry of Law, said that the ministry has been preparing to send the details as per the request of the Australian government.</p>

<p>&quot;Every concerned authorities are working from their side and the process of collecting the property details has almost reached the last stage,&quot; he said.</p>

<p>When Dr Rawal was the governor of NRB, the contract to print the 10-rupee polymer note was given to a company named Note Printing Australia Limited. It was said that the printed notes were of low standard. The Australian government initiated an investigation on the concerned authorities there to see if there has been any corruption in the process.</p>

<p>To help in the investigation process, the Australian government had requested the Government of Nepal through diplomatic channel to send property details of those individuals and organisations in 2013.</p>

<p>Majority of the accused had filed writ petitions against the process but the Supreme Court quashed the writs.</p>

<p>However, after the Supreme Court gave an interim order to send the property details as per the request of the Australian government, the officials of the Ministry of Law and NRB moved forward with the process.</p>

<p>Backing the cases of the petitioners, the lawyers argued that the privacy of Nepal will be infringed upon if the property details are sent to other countries. They said such decision will also affect the general public&rsquo;s view towards the reliability of banks.</p>

<p>&nbsp;According to Clause 5 of the Mutual Legal Assistance Act- 2014, Nepal cannot collect and provide documents or proofs, examine any places or things and send the information, or collect and send the archive of banks, BFIs or any business or provide the information about criminal cases to foreign countries even when they request for it.&nbsp;</p>

This is one of the prime reasons for the continued import of diesel and petrol at the same level despite the load-shedding hours being reduced significantly.</p>

<p>According to Sharad Kumar Gauchan, president of the Federation of Contractors&rsquo; Association Nepal (FCAN), altogether 8,000 heavy equipment are in operation round the clock at present. This is just the record maintained by the entrepreneurs affiliated to the federation.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We cannot ascertain the number of equipment that is in use of the contractors who are not associated with us,&rdquo; said Gauchan.</p>

<p>Vice President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Bishnu Kumar Agrawal, had said in a public function that there had been a 200 percent increase in the import of heavy equipment last year. Agrawal himself is a heavy equipment dealer.</p>

<p>The data presented by Agrawal implies that there has been an increase in the import of petroleum products in proportion to the increase in import of such equipment.</p>

<p>Besides the heavy equipment, lots of other machineries that operate on petroleum products are used for the development works. The increase in budget for development works and the subsequent increase in expenditure of the budget indicate that there has been a rise in use of heavy equipment every year.</p>

<p>The immediate past president of FCAN, Jayaram Lamichhane, says that it is essential to import diesel for the machineries for the development works despite having sufficient electricity.</p>

<p>&ldquo;It is necessary to evaluate why the import of petrol has not declined,&rdquo; said Lamichhane, adding, &ldquo;If we are to expedite development works, the import of diesel will increase unimaginably.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Lamichhane says that the current rate of increase in development works would result in 50 percent increase in import of petroleum products every year.</p>

<p>The government has allocated Rs 126.40 billion as development budget for the fiscal year 2074/75. It has been estimated that around 84 percent of the development budget set for the current fiscal year 2073/74 would be spent by the end of this month.</p>

<p>As per a news report of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), investments in large scale and medium scale industries along with small scale industries with foreign investments has increased in the FY2016/2017 compared to FY 2015/2016.</p>

<p>In the last fiscal year, investment in large, medium and small scale industries with foreign investments totaled Rs 122.7 billion whereas, it is Rs 145.84 billion till date in the current fiscal year.</p>

<p>According to Durga Prasad Bhusal, Spokesperson at the Department of Industry (DoI), 410 industries were registered in the last fiscal year whereas, 433 industries have been registered in the current fiscal year so far.</p>

<p>According to RSS, out of the total industries, 22 agriculture and forest-based, two construction, eight information, broadcasting and communication, 16 energy-oriented, 109 manufacturing, three mineral-based, 141 service-oriented and 132 tourism-oriented industries have been registered at the DoI.</p>

<p>Previously, the Department used to register industries with investment size ranging from Rs 30 million to Rs 100 million under medium scale industries and those with investment exceeding Rs 100 million under large scale industries.</p>

<p>But with the changes in the capital requirement in the current fiscal year, industries with investment ranging from Rs 100 million to Rs 250 million are registered as medium scale industries and those with investment exceeding Rs 250 million are registered as large scale industries.</p>

<p>Among the industries registered at the Department, 87 are large scale, 76 medium scale and 270 small industries with foreign investments.&nbsp; According to DoI, Rs 130.36 billion, Rs 1.27 billion and Rs 1.52 billion have been invested in large, medium and small industries with foreign investment respectively.</p>

<p>In the last fiscal year, 77 large scale, 72 medium scale industries along with 261 small industries with foreign investments were registered at the department.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, small industries with domestic investments are registered at the Cottage and Small Scale Industry Development Committee. DoI is authorised to only register small scale industries with investment not more than Rs 100 million in this regard.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Bhusal, the increase in the industrial sector is a result of the efforts of former Industry Minister Navindra Raj Joshi to create a favourable investment environment. He said that promulgation of the constitution and the local level elections have also encouraged investors to feel more secure.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment in new large scale hotels is increasing rapidly with the increase in attraction of private investors towards hotel sector. During the period of last one year, around 50 hotels have started operation in Pokhara, a world renowned tourist area.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&ldquo;Small scale to 5-star hotels will be opened,&rdquo; said Bikal Tulachan, President of Western Regional Hotel Association. &ldquo;Investment in hospitality sector of Pokhara has increased a lot and around additional 50 hotels will be opened till the upcoming Dashain festival. Last year, around 30 hotels were established.&rdquo; he further informed.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Currently, around 650 hotels are operating in and around Pokhara with around 400 hotels affiliated to the association itself.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Almost all the new hotels have space of over 30 rooms each. Most of the hotels are being established near lake-side area and some hotels in Begnas lake, Rupakot, Sarangkot, Naudada, Kandanidada, Pumdibhumdi, Dhampush area, informed Tulachan.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment of around Rs. 100 million is made even in the small scale tourist-based hotels. Whereas, more than Rs. 1 billion is being invested in large scale hotels, said Tulachan. More than 50 thousand people are employed directly or indirectly under the hotel industry in Pokhara.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Well- facilitated hotels should be increased in Pokhara rather than increasing the number of hotels, said Naresh Bhattarai, Managing Director of Mount Kailash Resort of Pokhara.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment in the hotel sector has increased also due to further process in establishment of international level hotels and international airport in Pokhara, presumes Bhattarai.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Currently, more than 16 thousand beds are available in hotels of Pokhara. Also, Tulachan estimates the number to be increased by 2,500 beds in the current fiscal year itself. Tulachan explained that investment in hotel sector increased due to interest shown by financial institutions towards it.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Hotel industry affected due to the devastating earthquake two years ago and the subsequent blockade in the border is slowly achieving success. Though the number of Chinese tourists has decreased compared to that of before earthquake, increase in number of Indian tourists is seen at present.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Hotels of Pokhara have made an important contribution to the tourism development sector of Nepal. &ldquo;Jaun hai Pokhara&rdquo;(let&#39;s visit Pokhara) and &ldquo;Chaliye Pokhara&rdquo; campaign organized by tourism entrepreneurs is also attracting tourists, informed Bharat Raj Parajuli, Vice President of Western Regional Hotel Association. He blamed that the government is indifferent towards tourism sector of Pokhara, despite private sector contributing to it.</p>

<p>The bank said that Rs. 10 billion would be invested in the Electricity Distribution Improvement Project of the Kathmandu valley. Electricity Distribution system of Kathmandu valley is not being improved for the last 20 years.</p>

<p>Similarly, the bank would invest Rs. 28 billion in the settlement development and systematic urbanization project of Terai-Madhes, informed Minister Karki. Though the project covers 22 districts in Terai, the bank will be investing in seven districts in the initial phase.</p>

<p>The ten finalists namely Hamro Doctor, AgroMart, AI pani, AgroTech, FARM, Swasthya Manch, Avacados and More, Spring Sanitary Napkins, Rasbin Enterprises and Agro-shelter gave presentation about how their businesses have been creating impact in the society.</p>

<p>The Social Business Challenge observed a total of 50 participants including social enterprises from the capital and some other places like Biratnagar, Janakpur, Chitwan and Birgunj.</p>

<p>Prior to the grand finale, Yunus Centre and King&#39;s College had organised workshops focused on social enterprise, social entrepreneurship and business model canvas in all these places.</p>

<p>The property details of nine individuals and organisations including former governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr Tilak Rawal along with Himalaya Bahadur Pandey, Prithvi Bahadur Pande, Rama Rajya Laxmi Pande, Keshav Khatri, Upendra Keshari Paudel and institutions including Mayflower Private Limited, Global Group Private Limited and Super Tristar Investment will be sent to Australia. The Supreme Court in August 2016 issued an order to forward the property details of the alleged individuals to the Australian government.</p>

<p>After the Supreme Court&rsquo;s order, the Ministry of Law and Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) have been working in this regard.</p>

<p>According to the government, the individuals and organizations had a main role in the issuance of the 10-rupee polymer note in Nepal.</p>

<p>Dilli Raj Ghimire, joint secretary and spokesperson of the Ministry of Law, said that the ministry has been preparing to send the details as per the request of the Australian government.</p>

<p>&quot;Every concerned authorities are working from their side and the process of collecting the property details has almost reached the last stage,&quot; he said.</p>

<p>When Dr Rawal was the governor of NRB, the contract to print the 10-rupee polymer note was given to a company named Note Printing Australia Limited. It was said that the printed notes were of low standard. The Australian government initiated an investigation on the concerned authorities there to see if there has been any corruption in the process.</p>

<p>To help in the investigation process, the Australian government had requested the Government of Nepal through diplomatic channel to send property details of those individuals and organisations in 2013.</p>

<p>Majority of the accused had filed writ petitions against the process but the Supreme Court quashed the writs.</p>

<p>However, after the Supreme Court gave an interim order to send the property details as per the request of the Australian government, the officials of the Ministry of Law and NRB moved forward with the process.</p>

<p>Backing the cases of the petitioners, the lawyers argued that the privacy of Nepal will be infringed upon if the property details are sent to other countries. They said such decision will also affect the general public&rsquo;s view towards the reliability of banks.</p>

<p>&nbsp;According to Clause 5 of the Mutual Legal Assistance Act- 2014, Nepal cannot collect and provide documents or proofs, examine any places or things and send the information, or collect and send the archive of banks, BFIs or any business or provide the information about criminal cases to foreign countries even when they request for it.&nbsp;</p>

This is one of the prime reasons for the continued import of diesel and petrol at the same level despite the load-shedding hours being reduced significantly.</p>

<p>According to Sharad Kumar Gauchan, president of the Federation of Contractors&rsquo; Association Nepal (FCAN), altogether 8,000 heavy equipment are in operation round the clock at present. This is just the record maintained by the entrepreneurs affiliated to the federation.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We cannot ascertain the number of equipment that is in use of the contractors who are not associated with us,&rdquo; said Gauchan.</p>

<p>Vice President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Bishnu Kumar Agrawal, had said in a public function that there had been a 200 percent increase in the import of heavy equipment last year. Agrawal himself is a heavy equipment dealer.</p>

<p>The data presented by Agrawal implies that there has been an increase in the import of petroleum products in proportion to the increase in import of such equipment.</p>

<p>Besides the heavy equipment, lots of other machineries that operate on petroleum products are used for the development works. The increase in budget for development works and the subsequent increase in expenditure of the budget indicate that there has been a rise in use of heavy equipment every year.</p>

<p>The immediate past president of FCAN, Jayaram Lamichhane, says that it is essential to import diesel for the machineries for the development works despite having sufficient electricity.</p>

<p>&ldquo;It is necessary to evaluate why the import of petrol has not declined,&rdquo; said Lamichhane, adding, &ldquo;If we are to expedite development works, the import of diesel will increase unimaginably.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Lamichhane says that the current rate of increase in development works would result in 50 percent increase in import of petroleum products every year.</p>

<p>The government has allocated Rs 126.40 billion as development budget for the fiscal year 2074/75. It has been estimated that around 84 percent of the development budget set for the current fiscal year 2073/74 would be spent by the end of this month.</p>

<p>As per a news report of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), investments in large scale and medium scale industries along with small scale industries with foreign investments has increased in the FY2016/2017 compared to FY 2015/2016.</p>

<p>In the last fiscal year, investment in large, medium and small scale industries with foreign investments totaled Rs 122.7 billion whereas, it is Rs 145.84 billion till date in the current fiscal year.</p>

<p>According to Durga Prasad Bhusal, Spokesperson at the Department of Industry (DoI), 410 industries were registered in the last fiscal year whereas, 433 industries have been registered in the current fiscal year so far.</p>

<p>According to RSS, out of the total industries, 22 agriculture and forest-based, two construction, eight information, broadcasting and communication, 16 energy-oriented, 109 manufacturing, three mineral-based, 141 service-oriented and 132 tourism-oriented industries have been registered at the DoI.</p>

<p>Previously, the Department used to register industries with investment size ranging from Rs 30 million to Rs 100 million under medium scale industries and those with investment exceeding Rs 100 million under large scale industries.</p>

<p>But with the changes in the capital requirement in the current fiscal year, industries with investment ranging from Rs 100 million to Rs 250 million are registered as medium scale industries and those with investment exceeding Rs 250 million are registered as large scale industries.</p>

<p>Among the industries registered at the Department, 87 are large scale, 76 medium scale and 270 small industries with foreign investments.&nbsp; According to DoI, Rs 130.36 billion, Rs 1.27 billion and Rs 1.52 billion have been invested in large, medium and small industries with foreign investment respectively.</p>

<p>In the last fiscal year, 77 large scale, 72 medium scale industries along with 261 small industries with foreign investments were registered at the department.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, small industries with domestic investments are registered at the Cottage and Small Scale Industry Development Committee. DoI is authorised to only register small scale industries with investment not more than Rs 100 million in this regard.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Bhusal, the increase in the industrial sector is a result of the efforts of former Industry Minister Navindra Raj Joshi to create a favourable investment environment. He said that promulgation of the constitution and the local level elections have also encouraged investors to feel more secure.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment in new large scale hotels is increasing rapidly with the increase in attraction of private investors towards hotel sector. During the period of last one year, around 50 hotels have started operation in Pokhara, a world renowned tourist area.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&ldquo;Small scale to 5-star hotels will be opened,&rdquo; said Bikal Tulachan, President of Western Regional Hotel Association. &ldquo;Investment in hospitality sector of Pokhara has increased a lot and around additional 50 hotels will be opened till the upcoming Dashain festival. Last year, around 30 hotels were established.&rdquo; he further informed.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Currently, around 650 hotels are operating in and around Pokhara with around 400 hotels affiliated to the association itself.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Almost all the new hotels have space of over 30 rooms each. Most of the hotels are being established near lake-side area and some hotels in Begnas lake, Rupakot, Sarangkot, Naudada, Kandanidada, Pumdibhumdi, Dhampush area, informed Tulachan.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment of around Rs. 100 million is made even in the small scale tourist-based hotels. Whereas, more than Rs. 1 billion is being invested in large scale hotels, said Tulachan. More than 50 thousand people are employed directly or indirectly under the hotel industry in Pokhara.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Well- facilitated hotels should be increased in Pokhara rather than increasing the number of hotels, said Naresh Bhattarai, Managing Director of Mount Kailash Resort of Pokhara.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Investment in the hotel sector has increased also due to further process in establishment of international level hotels and international airport in Pokhara, presumes Bhattarai.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Currently, more than 16 thousand beds are available in hotels of Pokhara. Also, Tulachan estimates the number to be increased by 2,500 beds in the current fiscal year itself. Tulachan explained that investment in hotel sector increased due to interest shown by financial institutions towards it.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Hotel industry affected due to the devastating earthquake two years ago and the subsequent blockade in the border is slowly achieving success. Though the number of Chinese tourists has decreased compared to that of before earthquake, increase in number of Indian tourists is seen at present.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Hotels of Pokhara have made an important contribution to the tourism development sector of Nepal. &ldquo;Jaun hai Pokhara&rdquo;(let&#39;s visit Pokhara) and &ldquo;Chaliye Pokhara&rdquo; campaign organized by tourism entrepreneurs is also attracting tourists, informed Bharat Raj Parajuli, Vice President of Western Regional Hotel Association. He blamed that the government is indifferent towards tourism sector of Pokhara, despite private sector contributing to it.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Experiencing the growth in market demand for Lenovo smartphones, the Studios are ready to welcome new customers and provide easier access and better services to them,&rdquo; the company said issuing a press statement. According to LifeCom, the company introduced the dedicated studios in order to encourage more prospective consumers to become Lenovo smartphone owners. &ldquo;We are planning to open up such showrooms throughout the nation.&rdquo; said Amit Agrawal, Managing Director of LifeCom. The two showrooms are the first exclusive outlets of the Chinese handset brand Lenovo in Nepal.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, LifeCom has been planning to soon introduce Motorola handsets in the Nepali market. It was hinted due to Moto branding visible at the newly opened outlets.</p>

<p>During the meeting with Nepali delegation headed by Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, AIIB pledged to invest in different projects of Nepal.</p>

<p>Nepali authorities attended the meeting of the AIIB Board of Governors that was held at Jeju of South Korea from 16<sup>th</sup> June to 18<sup>th</sup> June.</p>

<p>The bank said that Rs. 10 billion would be invested in the Electricity Distribution Improvement Project of the Kathmandu valley. Electricity Distribution system of Kathmandu valley is not being improved for the last 20 years.</p>

<p>Similarly, the bank would invest Rs. 28 billion in the settlement development and systematic urbanization project of Terai-Madhes, informed Minister Karki. Though the project covers 22 districts in Terai, the bank will be investing in seven districts in the initial phase.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The bank will invest Rs. 26 billion on upgrading of Samakhusi-Tokha Road, and Rs. 16 billion for the improvement of Pokhara-Beni-Jomson road.&nbsp;</p>
