According to the Ministry of Population and Environment (MoPE), it is making strict law to stop the import, export, use and production of polypropylene from the fiscal year 2073/74.

Organising a press conference on the occassion of International Plastic Bag Free Day on Sunday, July 3, MoPE Seceretary Dr Bishwonath Oli, said that the Environment Department is doing homework to make necessary strategies for the purpose. He added, " Due to the lack of strong policy decision, attempts to ban the use of plastic bags were not successful. This time the government has stressed to control the use of plastic bags even in the budget." According to him, interminesterial collaboration is essential for the implementation of the strategy.

However, plastic produces have been strongly objecting the government's action to restrict the production and use of plastic bags. Santosh Kumar Sedai, General Seceretary of Nepal Plastic Manufacturers' Association said that the decision discourages industrialiasts and entrepreneurs of the country. " The sector having more than Rs five billion in investment is endangered by the government's action," he mentioned.

As per the Association, there are around 200 plastic industries in the country employing more than 10,000 people. Sedai claimed that the decision has came under the pressure of NGOs and INGOs. The Association blamed that the government has been irresponsible in its actions to ban plastic business rather than effectively implementing garbage management.

According to Sedai, all types of plastic are not harmful for human health and environment. He said, " The Assocation is ready to re-cycle used plastics." As per Sedai, producers are ready to produce plastics of more than 20-30 microns, a standard set by the government. He said that it is not right for the government to influence plastic industries to substitute to alternative businessess. He said, "It is impossible to attract people for other occupation who are working in plastic industries for so long."

The Govt had tried to control the usage of plastic bags in recent years, though the decisions have not been implemented yet. The plastic bags having less than 20 micron are harmful for the health of human and environment as a whole. Citing the reason, the government tried to ban plastic bags in 2000/2001. Likewise, in 2012/2013 it attempted to control use of plastic bags in the Kathmandu Valley. Also, in 2015 the government tried to ban trade and use of plastic bags.
', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2016-07-04', 'modified' => '2016-07-04', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '3731', 'image' => '20160704012819_Plastic-Bag.jpg', 'article_date' => '2016-07-04 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '16' ) ), (int) 8 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '3897', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'National Microfinance in 3rd Year ', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => ' July 4: National Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha has completed its two years of operation. We have formed a committee for this year’s award ceremony. We are hopeful that New Business Age Second Cover Design Award provides support for the Crity Awards. We are producing advertisements that directly touch the heart and that can be felt by the consumers these days. Though we need to focus our efforts to raise the level of creativity in advertisements.

Joydeb Chakravarty,

Executive Director, Thompson Nepal

It is commendable that New Business Age Group is supporting the agencies especially the creativity part. Nevertheless, we lag far behind in advertisments compared to our neighboring countries. We are still giving priority to the layout part. It shows we are not serious enough to promote the products and brands. It needs to be understood that the creativity of advertisments should be liked by the general consumers and yield positive outputs to the products and brands. Though the Nepali advertisment market is growing, the level of creativity has not been developed as such. There should be creativity in both media and medium."

Ranjit Acharya

CEO, Prisma Advertising

"The event organised by New Business Age Pvt. Ltd is very praiseworthy. We should be able to give output from the money of advertisors by being creative. Similarly, it is necessary to focus on the creativity as well as the motive of advertisments. The advertisment should be easily consumed by the target group. Nowadays, there has been rise in trend to advertise products and services on social media. However, effectiveness such types of advertisments has been questioned.

According to a reserach, viewers only remember the advertisments displayed on social media only for 40 seconds. Therefore, it is not enough to advertise only through digital media."

Santosh Silwal Giri

CEO, Prisma Advertising

The program organised by New Business Age Pvt Ltd is appreciative. I find this program to be very creative. The program has conveyed new information about the Nepali Advertisement Industry. I feel that this kind of program should be conducted more often. I believe that this kind of program brings a positive competition between advertisers and agencies. Not only in the capital but programs like this must be organised outside the valley as well so that the advertising market in that area will be encouraged. Continuity for this kind of programs must be given.

Anil Baskota

Client Service Director, Thomsan Nepal

I got an opportunity to participate in this kind of event for the first time. For that matter also, the program was very important for me. This is a very nice opportunity for those in the advertising world who do not have much networking. Similarly, I did not expect but our company won the Creative Cover Design Award. This award has been awarded to our creative design and our creative designing team. I believe that a program like this will help to resume the Crity Awards which have been delayed due to various reasons. I think this program should be organised on quarterly and half yearly basis if not possible on monthly basis.

In a program organised by New Business Age Pvt Ltd on July 1, participant advertisement agencies and advertisers point out the necessity of new and creative exercises in the Nepali advertisement sector. According to the participants, Nepali advertisement sector is still functioning on the traditional way.

“The use of creativity in Nepali advertisements is satisfactory. However, we should try to increase the level,” said Shekhar Golchha, Vice-Chairman of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) and Executive Director of Golchha Organisation. “Since the beginning of commercial Nepali advertisements, creative use and developments are apparently good,” he added.

In a question asked on budget allocation for creativity in the advertisements, he said “Although there is no direct budget allocation for creativity, it is done indirectly.” He opined “As Nepali market lacks effective analysis, advertisements need to focus on advertisers and the market trends.”

In the program, Navin Shrestha, CEO of Water Communication, urged agencies to concentrate their efforts to uplift the level of creativity. “Nepali advertisement industry is still running in traditional pattern. Creativity in Nepali advertisement has not increased in the same proportion with the market size,” said Shrestha. He stated that as creative advertisement helps to build the brands, advertisements should balance advertisers and market dimensions. “Till now, we are calling creativity to the layout part only,” he mentioned. Anil Baskota, Client Service Director of Thomson Nepal said that Nepali advertisement remained at bottom in terms of creativity. “In terms of present worldwide trend, we are still in limited circle,” Baskota said. He commented that Nepali advertisements lack creativity due to the reluctance of agencies to take risks with advertisers. However, he added that Nepal do not lack capable human resources for creativity.

Meanwhile, Lav Manandhar, Art Director of Prisma Ad opined creative practices in Nepali advertisement as satisfactory. Highlighting on the interdependence of advertisers and agencies, he said, “Advertisers and agencies travel together. They need to move ahead together,” adding, “Advertisement presentations should be popular and understandable to all.”

Likewise, Santosh Shrestha Chairman of Advertisement Association of Nepal (AAN) informed that the Association has started preparation for the 9th Crity Award. Meanwhile, Nirmal Raj Poudel, former Chairman of AAN said that creativity in Nepali advertisement is moving together with pace of the market. Similarly, Ranjit Acharya CEO of Prisma Advertisement said that all types of communication medium have their own effectiveness. “Traditional medium need not be scared of their digital peers. However, the traditional media should be digitalised,” he said. Likewise, Joydeb Chakravarty, Executive Director of Thomson Nepal stressed on the need of providing platform for new talents in the advertisement sector.

“We should produce such advertisements that will generate awareness in the society and stays in the mind of viewers for long time,” said Ujaya Shakya, Managing Director of Outreach Pvt Ltd. Pankaj Pradhan, Managing Director of Prismark Marketing Pvt Ltd opined that lot of work is needed in order to take Nepali advertisements to the international standard.

The program was participated by Banshidhar Mishra, Founder Chairman of AAN, Raj Kumar Bhattarai, Former Chairman, Rajendra Aryal CEO of Trikon Advertising, Rabindra Rijal of Key Advertising.

Till now we have been making advertisements that are understood by everyone. However, we are not able to foster higher level of creativity in Nepali advertisements compared to those produced abroad. This kind of program can enhance the hidden talents and creativity of many AD agencies who are unable to come ahead in the market."

Navin Shrestha,

Managing Director, Water Communication

"The production of Nepali advertisements has spanned a period of two decades.

We feel very proud of the achievement since we designed the cover in a single day.

Santosh Raj KC

Trade and Marketing Head, Sunny Distillery Pvt Ltd

I feel the program conducted by New Business Age very appreciative. I believe that a program like this will help to resume the Crity Awards which have been delayed due to various reasons. I think this program should be organised on quarterly and half yearly basis if not possible on monthly basis.

Though the Nepali advertisment market is growing, the level of creativity has not been developed as such. Nowadays, there has been rise in trend to advertise products and services on social media. However, effectiveness such types of advertisments has been questioned.

According to a reserach, viewers only remember the advertisments displayed on social media only for 40 seconds.

The open discussion helped to gain more information about the Nepali advertisement industry. Though, creativity is a long process and a subject of continuous developing, I believe that the level of creativity in advertisements increase if we continue to organise such programs.

Santosh Shrestha,

President, Advertising Association of Nepal (AAN)

The Crity Awards was started from 2060 B.S. in order to increase the level of creativity in Nepali advertisement.

It encourages the advertisement agencies to do better. I thank New Business Age for organising such important event as no other publication or media company has done it before. We should never be satisfied as we have lot things to do. We need to do better.

Aayush Dhwaj Bista

Creative Director, Project A Pvt.Ltd.

I found the program very motivating as it was based on the contemporary issues of Nepali advertisement industry. Though being a new company, we were able to achieve the third position in the competition. This award has strongly motivated us. I believe that it will be good if more other companies will be participated in upcoming programs.

Lava Manandhar

Art Director, Prisma Ad

" It is essential to understand the objectives of advertisements that we are doing.

A program like these encourages the advertisement agencies which are not well established to build networks and promotes the hidden talent. I feel that the participants of the award were encouraged by this event.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2016-07-03', 'modified' => '2016-07-03', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '3725', 'image' => '20160703014855_parti.jpg', 'article_date' => '2016-07-03 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '16' ) ), (int) 14 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '3891', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => ' Thompson Nepal Bags 2nd NewBiz Cover Design Award', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'July 3: Thompson Nepal has been won the Best Cover Design Award in thE New Business Age Cover Design Award 2016.
