	However, the burden of MDR TB in Nepal is not as high as that in the South-east Asian region or across the globe, reads a statement issued by the World Health Organisation.</div>

	The report states that more than 32,000 cases were notified and registered at NTP in 2017/18, and some 6,000 annual deaths were caused by TB. According to this data, an estimated 87 people fall ill due to TB, and some 16 die from the disease, every day in Nepal.</div>

	Tuberculosis, a contagious airborne disease and one of the world&rsquo;s deadliest infectious killer, spreads via inhaling respiratory droplets that contain TB bacteria from the coughs or sneezes of an infected person.</div>

	Despite TB being a preventable and curable disease, TB remains world&rsquo;s top infectious killer affecting most economically productive age group which impacts the economy of the country, WHO said.</div>

	&ldquo;TB not only makes people sick, but the cost of TB treatment plunges TB affected families in vicious cycle of sickness and poverty.&nbsp; It is known that every USD 1 (Rs 109) invested to end TB returns USD 43 (Rs 4,690) plus the multiple benefits of a healthy functioning society. Hence, investment in TB is not just combating TB but makes economic sense,&rdquo; the statement added.</div>

	The member states of South East Asia Region issued call for action in March 2017, highlighting the political, technical and strategic interventions needed to route this disease. 	March 25: The Supreme Court on Sunday rejected an appeal to release the then managing director of Kist Bank, Kamal Gyawali, who is serving a jail sentence for banking fraud. The government had filed a case against Gyawali at the Patan High Court, which subsequently convicted him of the offense. Gwayali was at large soon after the court verdict but later he was arrested by the police. He has been serving the jail term ever since his arrest some five months ago but he filed a writ petition at the supreme court demanding his release.</p>

	However, a division bench of justices Kedar Prasad Chalise and Dambar Bahadur Shahi quashed the petition on Sunday, March 24. Following the apex court decision, Gyawali will now have to serve the jail sentence slapped by the Patan High Court. The high court had fined him Rs 42.7 million and handed him four years of jail term.</p>

	The Patan High Court had ruled that Gyawali was involved in providing loan to Jamko Publication through illegal means.</p>

Communications Officer at Birgunj-based ICP, Manish Mahato, confirmed that the Indian side of the ICP in Raxaul caught fire on March 24. He informed New Business Age that the fire that started from the bushes near the ICP parking lot spread toward the newly-built customs infrastructure.</p>

	The fire was doused jointly by the fire engines of Nepal and India. Import and export of goods from the customs point was halted for three hours as a result of the fire.</p>

	Superintendent of Police Rewati Dhakal of Parsa Police said that the fire did not cause any significant damage.</p>
<p>
	More than 500 vehicles including tankers, trucks, gas bullets had to be shifted elsewhere due to the fire.</p>
<p>
	A similar incident had occurred two months ago as well.</p>
<p>
	Police suspect that the fire might have been caused by a cigarette thrown in the bushes.</p>

Though the construction work of the railway linking Mechi to Mahakali has started, there has not been any significant progress. Of the proposed 945-kilometre railway, initial works of laying track-bed along 30 km has been completed.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	The government had developed the concept of operating the East-West Railway in 2007. However, the Department of Railways was established only in 2011. According to Aman Chitrakar, senior divisional engineer and spokesperson at the Department of Railways, a 30-km track-bed has been laid along the the Bardibas-Nijgadh section of the East-West Railway.</p>
<p>
	The foundation on which railway tracks are laid is called track-bed. A total of Rs 11.22 billion including compensation has been spent for the project until now, he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	Chitrakar informed that the tracks will be laid after the construction of the track-bed in Kakadbhitta, Jhapa to Gaddachauki, Kanchanpur.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;We too have felt that the progress is significantly slow. Providing compensation is the main problem at present,&rdquo; he told NBA, adding, &ldquo;We are trying to make swift progress.&rdquo;</p>
<p>
	According to the data provided by Investment Board Nepal, the estimated cost for the railway is USD 3 billion (Rs 330 billion approx). Currently, the government has been allocating Rs 4 billion annually for the expansion of the railway.&nbsp;</p>

	In the current fiscal year 2018/19, Nepal exported edible oil worth Rs 3.463 billion to India in eight months, according to Information Officer at Birgunj Customs Office Manish Kumar Mahato. He said that oil weighing 30,203 metric tons produced by oil industries of Bara and Parsa were exported to India this year.</p>

	Edible oil, which was not even in the export list in last fiscal year, stood on the top of the export list this year.</p>
<p>
	According to the data provided by the customs office, palm oil was Nepal&rsquo;s top export among different types of oils followed by soyabean oil. The export of non-edible palm oil alone stood at Rs 3.636 billion.</p>
<p>
	At present, nine oil industries of Bara and Parsa have been exporting oils through Birgunj.</p>
<p>
	The export of oil from Nepal to India has become possible due to the high customs duty levied by India on the import of raw material for oil. India levies 40 percent customs duty on the import of the raw materials.</p>

He also said that the lack of functionaries at the local levels have led to the poor execution of capital budget.</p>

	Former Financial Comptroller General Suresh Pradhan warned that lack of proper accounting, recording and reporting system at local levels could lead to financial indiscipline. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	Sushil Pandey, coordinator at the PEFA Secretariat, said that public finance management in recent years is getting linked with the macro-economy of the country, rather than limiting it to budget cycle. &ldquo;The public finance or spending should be aimed at increasing social equity, maintaining financial balance and ensuring justifiable results,&rdquo; said Pandey.</p>

	Franck Bessette, lead financial management specialist at the World Bank Office in Nepal, said that having the right and experienced people able to prepare, discuss and implement the budget and do the procurement works at the local levels in the new federal system remains a challenge.</p>

Gwayali was at large soon after the court verdict but later he was arrested by the police. He has been serving the jail term ever since his arrest some five months ago but he filed a writ petition at the supreme court demanding his release.</p>

	However, a division bench of justices Kedar Prasad Chalise and Dambar Bahadur Shahi quashed the petition on Sunday, March 24. Following the apex court decision, Gyawali will now have to serve the jail sentence slapped by the Patan High Court. 	More than 500 vehicles including tankers, trucks, gas bullets had to be shifted elsewhere due to the fire.</p>

	The government had developed the concept of operating the East-West Railway in 2007. However, the Department of Railways was established only in 2011. According to Aman Chitrakar, senior divisional engineer and spokesperson at the Department of Railways, a 30-km track-bed has been laid along the the Bardibas-Nijgadh section of the East-West Railway.</p>
<p>
	The foundation on which railway tracks are laid is called track-bed. A total of Rs 11.22 billion including compensation has been spent for the project until now, he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	Chitrakar informed that the tracks will be laid after the construction of the track-bed in Kakadbhitta, Jhapa to Gaddachauki, Kanchanpur.</p>

	&ldquo;We too have felt that the progress is significantly slow. Providing compensation is the main problem at present,&rdquo; he told NBA, adding, &ldquo;We are trying to make swift progress.&rdquo;</p>

	In the current fiscal year 2018/19, Nepal exported edible oil worth Rs 3.463 billion to India in eight months, according to Information Officer at Birgunj Customs Office Manish Kumar Mahato. He said that oil weighing 30,203 metric tons produced by oil industries of Bara and Parsa were exported to India this year.</p>
<p>
	Edible oil, which was not even in the export list in last fiscal year, stood on the top of the export list this year.</p>
<p>
	According to the data provided by the customs office, palm oil was Nepal&rsquo;s top export among different types of oils followed by soyabean oil. The export of non-edible palm oil alone stood at Rs 3.636 billion.</p>
<p>
	At present, nine oil industries of Bara and Parsa have been exporting oils through Birgunj.</p>
<p>
	The export of oil from Nepal to India has become possible due to the high customs duty levied by India on the import of raw material for oil. India levies 40 percent customs duty on the import of the raw materials.</p>

	Former Financial Comptroller General Suresh Pradhan warned that lack of proper accounting, recording and reporting system at local levels could lead to financial indiscipline. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	Sushil Pandey, coordinator at the PEFA Secretariat, said that public finance management in recent years is getting linked with the macro-economy of the country, rather than limiting it to budget cycle. &ldquo;The public finance or spending should be aimed at increasing social equity, maintaining financial balance and ensuring justifiable results,&rdquo; said Pandey.</p>

	Franck Bessette, lead financial management specialist at the World Bank Office in Nepal, said that having the right and experienced people able to prepare, discuss and implement the budget and do the procurement works at the local levels in the new federal system remains a challenge.</p>

He has been serving the jail term ever since his arrest some five months ago but he filed a writ petition at the supreme court demanding his release.</p>

	However, a division bench of justices Kedar Prasad Chalise and Dambar Bahadur Shahi quashed the petition on Sunday, March 24. Following the apex court decision, Gyawali will now have to serve the jail sentence slapped by the Patan High Court. 	The government had developed the concept of operating the East-West Railway in 2007. However, the Department of Railways was established only in 2011. According to Aman Chitrakar, senior divisional engineer and spokesperson at the Department of Railways, a 30-km track-bed has been laid along the the Bardibas-Nijgadh section of the East-West Railway.</p>

	The foundation on which railway tracks are laid is called track-bed. A total of Rs 11.22 billion including compensation has been spent for the project until now, he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	Chitrakar informed that the tracks will be laid after the construction of the track-bed in Kakadbhitta, Jhapa to Gaddachauki, Kanchanpur.</p>

	Issuing a statement, the company said that the new Datsun GO comes in three variants namely GO A (O), GO T and GO T (O). The vehicles will be available in the showrooms at Thapathali and Uttar Dhoka as well as 13 other touch points throughout the country.</p>

	According to the company, the new Datsun GO is equipped with fabulous new features and upgrades for a more comfortable, safe and stylish driving experience.</p>
<p>
	The New Datsun Go is equipped with 28 new features including 7-inch Touch Audio with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, daytime running LED fashion lamps, 14 inches diamond-cut alloys, standard safety package of dual airbags as well as ABS,EBD,BA and parking sensors among others.</p>
<p>
	The vehicle also features best-in-class 180mm ground clearance, 2450mm wheel base, 265L luggage space and 4.6m turning radius, according to the statement.</p>

	The statement further said that the all new Datsun GO comes equipped with Ride Control Advanced Suspension System and race-inspired 1.2L HR12 DE petrol engine delivering a mileage of 19.83Kmpl.</p>

	In the current fiscal year 2018/19, Nepal exported edible oil worth Rs 3.463 billion to India in eight months, according to Information Officer at Birgunj Customs Office Manish Kumar Mahato. He said that oil weighing 30,203 metric tons produced by oil industries of Bara and Parsa were exported to India this year.</p>
<p>
	Edible oil, which was not even in the export list in last fiscal year, stood on the top of the export list this year.</p>
<p>
	According to the data provided by the customs office, palm oil was Nepal&rsquo;s top export among different types of oils followed by soyabean oil. The export of non-edible palm oil alone stood at Rs 3.636 billion.</p>
<p>
	At present, nine oil industries of Bara and Parsa have been exporting oils through Birgunj.</p>
<p>
	The export of oil from Nepal to India has become possible due to the high customs duty levied by India on the import of raw material for oil. India levies 40 percent customs duty on the import of the raw materials.</p>

	Speaking at an interaction programme on &lsquo;Public Finance Management&rsquo; organized by the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) with the support of Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) secretariat on Friday (March 22), they also pointed out various challenges for effective public finance management in the new federal system of the country.</p>

	&ldquo;As the country is implementing the fiscal federalism, there are mainly challenges related to institutional capacity, fiscal capacity and technical capacity for the effective public finance management,&rdquo; SEJON quoted Baikuntha Aryal, secretary at the National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission (NNRFC), as saying.</p>

	&ldquo;For the allocation efficiency of resources, the capacity of finance ministry alone is not adequate. All spending agencies should have similar capacity,&rdquo; he added.</p>

	Also speaking at the interaction, Hari Saran Pudasaini, a joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance (MoF), pointed out the problem of lack of database and reporting system at the sub-national level. He also said that the lack of functionaries at the local levels have led to the poor execution of capital budget.</p>

	Former Financial Comptroller General Suresh Pradhan warned that lack of proper accounting, recording and reporting system at local levels could lead to financial indiscipline. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	Sushil Pandey, coordinator at the PEFA Secretariat, said that public finance management in recent years is getting linked with the macro-economy of the country, rather than limiting it to budget cycle. &ldquo;The public finance or spending should be aimed at increasing social equity, maintaining financial balance and ensuring justifiable results,&rdquo; said Pandey.</p>

	Franck Bessette, lead financial management specialist at the World Bank Office in Nepal, said that having the right and experienced people able to prepare, discuss and implement the budget and do the procurement works at the local levels in the new federal system remains a challenge.</p>

He has been serving the jail term ever since his arrest some five months ago but he filed a writ petition at the supreme court demanding his release.</p>

	However, a division bench of justices Kedar Prasad Chalise and Dambar Bahadur Shahi quashed the petition on Sunday, March 24. Following the apex court decision, Gyawali will now have to serve the jail sentence slapped by the Patan High Court. The high court had fined him Rs 42.7 million and handed him four years of jail term.</p>

	More than 500 vehicles including tankers, trucks, gas bullets had to be shifted elsewhere due to the fire.</p>

	Police suspect that the fire might have been caused by a cigarette thrown in the bushes.</p>

	The government had developed the concept of operating the East-West Railway in 2007. However, the Department of Railways was established only in 2011. According to Aman Chitrakar, senior divisional engineer and spokesperson at the Department of Railways, a 30-km track-bed has been laid along the the Bardibas-Nijgadh section of the East-West Railway.</p>
<p>
	The foundation on which railway tracks are laid is called track-bed. A total of Rs 11.22 billion including compensation has been spent for the project until now, he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	Chitrakar informed that the tracks will be laid after the construction of the track-bed in Kakadbhitta, Jhapa to Gaddachauki, Kanchanpur.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;We too have felt that the progress is significantly slow. Providing compensation is the main problem at present,&rdquo; he told NBA, adding, &ldquo;We are trying to make swift progress.&rdquo;</p>

	Sagar Poudel, director at the ADB&rsquo;s Road Department Project Directorate, said that China State Construction Company has been given the contract to expand the road.</p>

	The road will be constructed in two phases. In the first phase, construction of the 65-kilometer Narayanghat-Daunne road section will take place while the remaining 49-kilometers of Daunne-Butwal road section will be expanded in the second phase.</p>
<p>
	The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 15 billion.</p>

	In the current fiscal year 2018/19, Nepal exported edible oil worth Rs 3.463 billion to India in eight months, according to Information Officer at Birgunj Customs Office Manish Kumar Mahato. He said that oil weighing 30,203 metric tons produced by oil industries of Bara and Parsa were exported to India this year.</p>

	Edible oil, which was not even in the export list in last fiscal year, stood on the top of the export list this year.</p>
<p>
	According to the data provided by the customs office, palm oil was Nepal&rsquo;s top export among different types of oils followed by soyabean oil. The export of non-edible palm oil alone stood at Rs 3.636 billion.</p>
<p>
	At present, nine oil industries of Bara and Parsa have been exporting oils through Birgunj.</p>
<p>
	The export of oil from Nepal to India has become possible due to the high customs duty levied by India on the import of raw material for oil. India levies 40 percent customs duty on the import of the raw materials.</p>

	Speaking at an interaction programme on &lsquo;Public Finance Management&rsquo; organized by the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) with the support of Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) secretariat on Friday (March 22), they also pointed out various challenges for effective public finance management in the new federal system of the country.</p>

	&ldquo;As the country is implementing the fiscal federalism, there are mainly challenges related to institutional capacity, fiscal capacity and technical capacity for the effective public finance management,&rdquo; SEJON quoted Baikuntha Aryal, secretary at the National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission (NNRFC), as saying.</p>

	&ldquo;For the allocation efficiency of resources, the capacity of finance ministry alone is not adequate. All spending agencies should have similar capacity,&rdquo; he added.</p>
<p>
	Also speaking at the interaction, Hari Saran Pudasaini, a joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance (MoF), pointed out the problem of lack of database and reporting system at the sub-national level. He also said that the lack of functionaries at the local levels have led to the poor execution of capital budget.</p>
<p>
	Former Financial Comptroller General Suresh Pradhan warned that lack of proper accounting, recording and reporting system at local levels could lead to financial indiscipline. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	Sushil Pandey, coordinator at the PEFA Secretariat, said that public finance management in recent years is getting linked with the macro-economy of the country, rather than limiting it to budget cycle. &ldquo;The public finance or spending should be aimed at increasing social equity, maintaining financial balance and ensuring justifiable results,&rdquo; said Pandey.</p>

	Franck Bessette, lead financial management specialist at the World Bank Office in Nepal, said that having the right and experienced people able to prepare, discuss and implement the budget and do the procurement works at the local levels in the new federal system remains a challenge.</p>
