The judging panel from The Banker magazine chose BoK as the winner, from among the Nepal-based banks, of the world’s longest running international banking title. The award was announced by Financial Times during its annual award hosting ceremony on 30 November at the Intercontinental Hotel in London.</p>

	Handicraft export in the first three months of fiscal year 2011/12 has increased by 31.22 per cent compared to the same period of previous fiscal year. From about three dozen handicraft products, only seven could not register a growth in exports, said Bikash Ratna Dhakhwa, President of Federation of Handicraft Association Nepal (FHAN). Dhakwa said that Rs 1.185 billion was earned from the export of these goods. This figure during the same period of fiscal year 2010/11 was Rs 903.5 million. According to Dhakwa, favourable working environment created with the improvement in political situation has led to the increase in export. “After the settlement of wage issues with labourers, industries have been able to produce and supply to meet the demand,” said Dhakwa. He also claimed that some of the credit for this increase in exports goes to the various programmes organised by FHAN for export promotion. &nbsp;</p>',

	MAW Enterprises, the authorised d i s t r i b u t o r of Yamaha Motorcycles in Nepal, conducted Yamaha Safe Riding Science (YSRS) at Global Academy of Tourism &amp; Hospitality Education (GATE) College of Kathmandu on 18 December. A total of 65 persons took part in the programme. YSRS is a CSR initiative of Yamaha worldwide, conducted successfully in Japan, India and many other South Asian countries. YSRS aims at teaching young riders about riding safely thereby contributing towards an accident free traffic environment.</p>
<p>
	The riders are informed about causes of accident, harms caused due to accidents and the appropriate safety precautions. Ashish Maharjan, Coordinator of GATE College, said these kinds of activities should be conducted in all schools and colleges. He also urged all the two wheeler companies to conduct such safety awareness activities. Maharjan expressed his gratitude towards MAW for providing safety related tips and information to GATE students and hoped that such events will be conducted again. </p>

	YSRS has already been conducted in five different colleges in Kathmandu and MAW also plans to share this knowledge with more students from outside Kathmandu valley in the near future. &nbsp;</p>',

	Samsher Lamsal, a constable of Nepal Police, has set a new world record for the longest non-stop two-wheeler ride, without letting his foot touch the ground. He successfully rode a Honda CB Twister Bike for 25 hours over 957 kilometres on November 20-21. Lamsal began his record journey at 8:30am from Ratnapark in Kathmandu on Sunday, 20 November and stopped his bike only after 25 hours at Bhajuratna Engineering and Sales Pvt Ltd, Narayanghat at 9:32 am on Monday, 21 November. Arrangements were made to ensure that the necessities such as fuel, food and water were provided to the man and his bike without disrupting the record attempt. His bike travelled along the route of Kathmandu-Narayanghat- Hetauda-Narayanghat-Butwal-Hetauda-Narayanghat.</p>
<p>
	The Honda CD Twister that travelled the distance of 957 kms without any mechanical failures to set the world record used approximately 15 litres of petrol, setting the mileage of Honda CB Twister at 63.8 kms per litre. Constable Lamsal’s successful attempt to set a world record was managed by 81e Pvt Ltd, an event management company. </p>

	The event was assisted by Nepal Police and sponsored by Syakar Company, the authorised dealer of Honda bikes in Nepal. “I am very happy and proud that I have been able to achieve my target,” said Lamsal. Mathura Shrestha of Global Records adjudicated his attempt and has judged the feat to be a new world record. &nbsp;</p>',

	The eighth Leather Goods and Footwear Expo 2011 organised by the Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturers Association Nepal concluded on December 26. Organised in the City Hall premises in Kathmandu from December 20 with an objective to promote domestic brands of footwear and leather goods, the weeklong exhibition received more than 15,000 visitors every day.</p>
<p>
	According to Expo Coordinator Manoj Kumar Shrestha, leather goods worth Rs 1.5 million were sold every day on an average. The exhibition showcased more than 50 stalls of producers and suppliers of domestic footwear companies and raw material for leather products. A wide collection of canvas and leather shoes, sandals, bags, and jackets were the major attractions of the grand exhibition. Buyers got 15 per cent discount on all such items. The weeklong expo provided a common ground to the producers and suppliers of footwear and leather products.</p>

	Domestic manufacturers have 40 to 45 per cent share in the Nepali footwear market, while their exports stand at over Rs 10 million per year, said the organisers. 	Long queues are a consequence of the lack of airline common-use facilities at the airport, states a press release issued after the agreement was signed promising that with the introduction of SITA’s common-use platform AirportConnect Open, queues will be reduced and passenger flow through the airport will greatly improve as check-in areas can be used more efficiently.</p>
<p>
	SITA AirportConnect Open will be initially implemented at 24 check-in counters and later expanded to 36 counters, states the release. Ratish Chandra Lal Suman, General Manager of TIA, said: “We selected SITA after an extremely competitive international bidding process. This upgrade to our check-in facilities is timely as we have seen record levels of passenger traffic this year with the heavy promotion of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.” Passenger numbers are expected to grow further from now until April, the peak tourism period in Nepal. There was a real boom last year when international airlines serving the country grew their passenger volumes by over 20 per cent. </p>

	Maneesh Jaikrishna, SITA Country Director for India and Subcontinent, said: “Airlines, airports and governments have increasingly complex requirements. They need consistent passenger processing, reduced congestion and improved passenger flows.” AirportConnect Open will provide Tribhuvan International Airport with the flexibility to cope with peaks in traffic during the busiest times of the year for tourism and trade. &nbsp;</p>',

	NEXPO-2011, an international trade fair kicked off in Birgunj city on December 23, bringing together the domestic and international business community at one platform. This first-of-its kind fair of Birgunj is aimed at promoting agriculture, tourism, banking, readymade garments, entertainment, and automobiles, among others, through more than 200 stalls.</p>
<p>
	“NEXPO 2011 has been organised with an objective to exhibit goods and services that are available in Nepal or are soon arriving in the country,” says Birgunj Chamber of Commerce qand Industry (BCCI). The very first day of the NEXPO witnessed transaction of over Rs 10 million and over 15,000 visitors. The fair which will conclude on January 2 expects a crowd of 300,000 and a transaction of around Rs 200 million. Domestic and international manufacturers, suppliers, traders and the general public all are expected to benefit from the fair.</p>
<p>
	The fair has been organised with an objective to bring different product and services under one roof, said the organisers. Neighbouring countries such as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, too, have their stalls in the fair. Nepal operations of multinational companies like Dabur and Surya Nepal have their stalls in the fair. The banking and financial sector has also shown good presence in NEXPO 2011. The fair has also been hosting folk dances, fashion show, various sports, food festivals and live music for the entertainment of the visitors.</p>

	NEXPO 2011 has been organised by the BCCI in association with Nepal Government, FNCCI, and Micro, Cottage and Small Industries Development Fund. The fair was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai. &nbsp;</p>',

From about three dozen handicraft products, only seven could not register a growth in exports, said Bikash Ratna Dhakhwa, President of Federation of Handicraft Association Nepal (FHAN). Dhakwa said that Rs 1.185 billion was earned from the export of these goods. This figure during the same period of fiscal year 2010/11 was Rs 903.5 million. According to Dhakwa, favourable working environment created with the improvement in political situation has led to the increase in export. “After the settlement of wage issues with labourers, industries have been able to produce and supply to meet the demand,” said Dhakwa. 	Samsher Lamsal, a constable of Nepal Police, has set a new world record for the longest non-stop two-wheeler ride, without letting his foot touch the ground. He successfully rode a Honda CB Twister Bike for 25 hours over 957 kilometres on November 20-21. Lamsal began his record journey at 8:30am from Ratnapark in Kathmandu on Sunday, 20 November and stopped his bike only after 25 hours at Bhajuratna Engineering and Sales Pvt Ltd, Narayanghat at 9:32 am on Monday, 21 November. Arrangements were made to ensure that the necessities such as fuel, food and water were provided to the man and his bike without disrupting the record attempt. His bike travelled along the route of Kathmandu-Narayanghat- Hetauda-Narayanghat-Butwal-Hetauda-Narayanghat.</p>
<p>
	The Honda CD Twister that travelled the distance of 957 kms without any mechanical failures to set the world record used approximately 15 litres of petrol, setting the mileage of Honda CB Twister at 63.8 kms per litre. Constable Lamsal’s successful attempt to set a world record was managed by 81e Pvt Ltd, an event management company. </p>

	The event was assisted by Nepal Police and sponsored by Syakar Company, the authorised dealer of Honda bikes in Nepal. “I am very happy and proud that I have been able to achieve my target,” said Lamsal. Organised in the City Hall premises in Kathmandu from December 20 with an objective to promote domestic brands of footwear and leather goods, the weeklong exhibition received more than 15,000 visitors every day.</p>

	According to Expo Coordinator Manoj Kumar Shrestha, leather goods worth Rs 1.5 million were sold every day on an average. The exhibition showcased more than 50 stalls of producers and suppliers of domestic footwear companies and raw material for leather products. A wide collection of canvas and leather shoes, sandals, bags, and jackets were the major attractions of the grand exhibition. Buyers got 15 per cent discount on all such items. The weeklong expo provided a common ground to the producers and suppliers of footwear and leather products.</p>

	Long queues are a consequence of the lack of airline common-use facilities at the airport, states a press release issued after the agreement was signed promising that with the introduction of SITA’s common-use platform AirportConnect Open, queues will be reduced and passenger flow through the airport will greatly improve as check-in areas can be used more efficiently.</p>
<p>
	SITA AirportConnect Open will be initially implemented at 24 check-in counters and later expanded to 36 counters, states the release. Ratish Chandra Lal Suman, General Manager of TIA, said: “We selected SITA after an extremely competitive international bidding process. This upgrade to our check-in facilities is timely as we have seen record levels of passenger traffic this year with the heavy promotion of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.” Passenger numbers are expected to grow further from now until April, the peak tourism period in Nepal. There was a real boom last year when international airlines serving the country grew their passenger volumes by over 20 per cent. </p>

	Maneesh Jaikrishna, SITA Country Director for India and Subcontinent, said: “Airlines, airports and governments have increasingly complex requirements. 	NEXPO-2011, an international trade fair kicked off in Birgunj city on December 23, bringing together the domestic and international business community at one platform. This first-of-its kind fair of Birgunj is aimed at promoting agriculture, tourism, banking, readymade garments, entertainment, and automobiles, among others, through more than 200 stalls.</p>
<p>
	“NEXPO 2011 has been organised with an objective to exhibit goods and services that are available in Nepal or are soon arriving in the country,” says Birgunj Chamber of Commerce qand Industry (BCCI). The very first day of the NEXPO witnessed transaction of over Rs 10 million and over 15,000 visitors. The fair which will conclude on January 2 expects a crowd of 300,000 and a transaction of around Rs 200 million. Domestic and international manufacturers, suppliers, traders and the general public all are expected to benefit from the fair.</p>
<p>
	The fair has been organised with an objective to bring different product and services under one roof, said the organisers. Neighbouring countries such as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, too, have their stalls in the fair. Nepal operations of multinational companies like Dabur and Surya Nepal have their stalls in the fair. The banking and financial sector has also shown good presence in NEXPO 2011. The fair has also been hosting folk dances, fashion show, various sports, food festivals and live music for the entertainment of the visitors.</p>

	NEXPO 2011 has been organised by the BCCI in association with Nepal Government, FNCCI, and Micro, Cottage and Small Industries Development Fund. The fair was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai. &nbsp;</p>',

	Handicraft export in the first three months of fiscal year 2011/12 has increased by 31.22 per cent compared to the same period of previous fiscal year. From about three dozen handicraft products, only seven could not register a growth in exports, said Bikash Ratna Dhakhwa, President of Federation of Handicraft Association Nepal (FHAN). Dhakwa said that Rs 1.185 billion was earned from the export of these goods. This figure during the same period of fiscal year 2010/11 was Rs 903.5 million. According to Dhakwa, favourable working environment created with the improvement in political situation has led to the increase in export. “After the settlement of wage issues with labourers, industries have been able to produce and supply to meet the demand,” said Dhakwa. He also claimed that some of the credit for this increase in exports goes to the various programmes organised by FHAN for export promotion. &nbsp;</p>',

YSRS aims at teaching young riders about riding safely thereby contributing towards an accident free traffic environment.</p>

	The riders are informed about causes of accident, harms caused due to accidents and the appropriate safety precautions. Ashish Maharjan, Coordinator of GATE College, said these kinds of activities should be conducted in all schools and colleges. He also urged all the two wheeler companies to conduct such safety awareness activities. Maharjan expressed his gratitude towards MAW for providing safety related tips and information to GATE students and hoped that such events will be conducted again. </p>

	Samsher Lamsal, a constable of Nepal Police, has set a new world record for the longest non-stop two-wheeler ride, without letting his foot touch the ground. He successfully rode a Honda CB Twister Bike for 25 hours over 957 kilometres on November 20-21. Lamsal began his record journey at 8:30am from Ratnapark in Kathmandu on Sunday, 20 November and stopped his bike only after 25 hours at Bhajuratna Engineering and Sales Pvt Ltd, Narayanghat at 9:32 am on Monday, 21 November. Arrangements were made to ensure that the necessities such as fuel, food and water were provided to the man and his bike without disrupting the record attempt. His bike travelled along the route of Kathmandu-Narayanghat- Hetauda-Narayanghat-Butwal-Hetauda-Narayanghat.</p>
<p>
	The Honda CD Twister that travelled the distance of 957 kms without any mechanical failures to set the world record used approximately 15 litres of petrol, setting the mileage of Honda CB Twister at 63.8 kms per litre. Constable Lamsal’s successful attempt to set a world record was managed by 81e Pvt Ltd, an event management company. </p>
<p>
	The event was assisted by Nepal Police and sponsored by Syakar Company, the authorised dealer of Honda bikes in Nepal. “I am very happy and proud that I have been able to achieve my target,” said Lamsal. Organised in the City Hall premises in Kathmandu from December 20 with an objective to promote domestic brands of footwear and leather goods, the weeklong exhibition received more than 15,000 visitors every day.</p>

	According to Expo Coordinator Manoj Kumar Shrestha, leather goods worth Rs 1.5 million were sold every day on an average. The exhibition showcased more than 50 stalls of producers and suppliers of domestic footwear companies and raw material for leather products. A wide collection of canvas and leather shoes, sandals, bags, and jackets were the major attractions of the grand exhibition. Buyers got 15 per cent discount on all such items. The weeklong expo provided a common ground to the producers and suppliers of footwear and leather products.</p>

	Long queues are a consequence of the lack of airline common-use facilities at the airport, states a press release issued after the agreement was signed promising that with the introduction of SITA’s common-use platform AirportConnect Open, queues will be reduced and passenger flow through the airport will greatly improve as check-in areas can be used more efficiently.</p>
<p>
	SITA AirportConnect Open will be initially implemented at 24 check-in counters and later expanded to 36 counters, states the release. Ratish Chandra Lal Suman, General Manager of TIA, said: “We selected SITA after an extremely competitive international bidding process. This upgrade to our check-in facilities is timely as we have seen record levels of passenger traffic this year with the heavy promotion of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.” Passenger numbers are expected to grow further from now until April, the peak tourism period in Nepal. There was a real boom last year when international airlines serving the country grew their passenger volumes by over 20 per cent. </p>

	Maneesh Jaikrishna, SITA Country Director for India and Subcontinent, said: “Airlines, airports and governments have increasingly complex requirements. They need consistent passenger processing, reduced congestion and improved passenger flows.” AirportConnect Open will provide Tribhuvan International Airport with the flexibility to cope with peaks in traffic during the busiest times of the year for tourism and trade. &nbsp;</p>',

	NEXPO-2011, an international trade fair kicked off in Birgunj city on December 23, bringing together the domestic and international business community at one platform. This first-of-its kind fair of Birgunj is aimed at promoting agriculture, tourism, banking, readymade garments, entertainment, and automobiles, among others, through more than 200 stalls.</p>
<p>
	“NEXPO 2011 has been organised with an objective to exhibit goods and services that are available in Nepal or are soon arriving in the country,” says Birgunj Chamber of Commerce qand Industry (BCCI). The very first day of the NEXPO witnessed transaction of over Rs 10 million and over 15,000 visitors. The fair which will conclude on January 2 expects a crowd of 300,000 and a transaction of around Rs 200 million. Domestic and international manufacturers, suppliers, traders and the general public all are expected to benefit from the fair.</p>
<p>
	The fair has been organised with an objective to bring different product and services under one roof, said the organisers. Neighbouring countries such as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, too, have their stalls in the fair. Nepal operations of multinational companies like Dabur and Surya Nepal have their stalls in the fair. The banking and financial sector has also shown good presence in NEXPO 2011. The fair has also been hosting folk dances, fashion show, various sports, food festivals and live music for the entertainment of the visitors.</p>

	NEXPO 2011 has been organised by the BCCI in association with Nepal Government, FNCCI, and Micro, Cottage and Small Industries Development Fund. The fair was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai. &nbsp;</p>',

From about three dozen handicraft products, only seven could not register a growth in exports, said Bikash Ratna Dhakhwa, President of Federation of Handicraft Association Nepal (FHAN). Dhakwa said that Rs 1.185 billion was earned from the export of these goods. This figure during the same period of fiscal year 2010/11 was Rs 903.5 million. According to Dhakwa, favourable working environment created with the improvement in political situation has led to the increase in export. “After the settlement of wage issues with labourers, industries have been able to produce and supply to meet the demand,” said Dhakwa. He also claimed that some of the credit for this increase in exports goes to the various programmes organised by FHAN for export promotion. &nbsp;</p>',

	Samsher Lamsal, a constable of Nepal Police, has set a new world record for the longest non-stop two-wheeler ride, without letting his foot touch the ground. He successfully rode a Honda CB Twister Bike for 25 hours over 957 kilometres on November 20-21. Lamsal began his record journey at 8:30am from Ratnapark in Kathmandu on Sunday, 20 November and stopped his bike only after 25 hours at Bhajuratna Engineering and Sales Pvt Ltd, Narayanghat at 9:32 am on Monday, 21 November. Arrangements were made to ensure that the necessities such as fuel, food and water were provided to the man and his bike without disrupting the record attempt. His bike travelled along the route of Kathmandu-Narayanghat- Hetauda-Narayanghat-Butwal-Hetauda-Narayanghat.</p>
<p>
	The Honda CD Twister that travelled the distance of 957 kms without any mechanical failures to set the world record used approximately 15 litres of petrol, setting the mileage of Honda CB Twister at 63.8 kms per litre. Constable Lamsal’s successful attempt to set a world record was managed by 81e Pvt Ltd, an event management company. </p>

	The event was assisted by Nepal Police and sponsored by Syakar Company, the authorised dealer of Honda bikes in Nepal. “I am very happy and proud that I have been able to achieve my target,” said Lamsal. Mathura Shrestha of Global Records adjudicated his attempt and has judged the feat to be a new world record. &nbsp;</p>',

	The eighth Leather Goods and Footwear Expo 2011 organised by the Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturers Association Nepal concluded on December 26. Organised in the City Hall premises in Kathmandu from December 20 with an objective to promote domestic brands of footwear and leather goods, the weeklong exhibition received more than 15,000 visitors every day.</p>
<p>
	According to Expo Coordinator Manoj Kumar Shrestha, leather goods worth Rs 1.5 million were sold every day on an average. The exhibition showcased more than 50 stalls of producers and suppliers of domestic footwear companies and raw material for leather products. A wide collection of canvas and leather shoes, sandals, bags, and jackets were the major attractions of the grand exhibition. Buyers got 15 per cent discount on all such items. The weeklong expo provided a common ground to the producers and suppliers of footwear and leather products.</p>

	Domestic manufacturers have 40 to 45 per cent share in the Nepali footwear market, while their exports stand at over Rs 10 million per year, said the organisers. Gold Star Shoes was the gold sponsor of the expo. BF Dear Hill Shoes was its sponsor and Sky Shoes and Magic Sandals were co-sponsors. &nbsp;</p>',

	The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has signed a seven-year agreement with France’s air transport communications and IT solutions specialist organisation SITA to tackle check-in queues at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. <img align="middle" alt="sita" border="3" height="25" hspace="1" src="http://newbusinessage.com/ckfinder/userfiles/Images/tia.jpg" vspace="1" width="100" /></p>

	Long queues are a consequence of the lack of airline common-use facilities at the airport, states a press release issued after the agreement was signed promising that with the introduction of SITA’s common-use platform AirportConnect Open, queues will be reduced and passenger flow through the airport will greatly improve as check-in areas can be used more efficiently.</p>
<p>
	SITA AirportConnect Open will be initially implemented at 24 check-in counters and later expanded to 36 counters, states the release. Ratish Chandra Lal Suman, General Manager of TIA, said: “We selected SITA after an extremely competitive international bidding process. This upgrade to our check-in facilities is timely as we have seen record levels of passenger traffic this year with the heavy promotion of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.” Passenger numbers are expected to grow further from now until April, the peak tourism period in Nepal. There was a real boom last year when international airlines serving the country grew their passenger volumes by over 20 per cent. </p>

	Maneesh Jaikrishna, SITA Country Director for India and Subcontinent, said: “Airlines, airports and governments have increasingly complex requirements. They need consistent passenger processing, reduced congestion and improved passenger flows.” AirportConnect Open will provide Tribhuvan International Airport with the flexibility to cope with peaks in traffic during the busiest times of the year for tourism and trade. &nbsp;</p>',

	NEXPO-2011, an international trade fair kicked off in Birgunj city on December 23, bringing together the domestic and international business community at one platform. This first-of-its kind fair of Birgunj is aimed at promoting agriculture, tourism, banking, readymade garments, entertainment, and automobiles, among others, through more than 200 stalls.</p>
<p>
	“NEXPO 2011 has been organised with an objective to exhibit goods and services that are available in Nepal or are soon arriving in the country,” says Birgunj Chamber of Commerce qand Industry (BCCI). The very first day of the NEXPO witnessed transaction of over Rs 10 million and over 15,000 visitors. The fair which will conclude on January 2 expects a crowd of 300,000 and a transaction of around Rs 200 million. Domestic and international manufacturers, suppliers, traders and the general public all are expected to benefit from the fair.</p>
<p>
	The fair has been organised with an objective to bring different product and services under one roof, said the organisers. Neighbouring countries such as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, too, have their stalls in the fair. Nepal operations of multinational companies like Dabur and Surya Nepal have their stalls in the fair. The banking and financial sector has also shown good presence in NEXPO 2011. The fair has also been hosting folk dances, fashion show, various sports, food festivals and live music for the entertainment of the visitors.</p>
