Birgunj Hosts International NEXPO 2011

NEXPO-2011, an international trade fair kicked off in Birgunj city on December 23, bringing together the domestic and international business community at one platform. This first-of-its kind fair of Birgunj is aimed at promoting agriculture, tourism, banking, readymade garments, entertainment, and automobiles, among others, through more than 200 stalls.

“NEXPO 2011 has been organised with an objective to exhibit goods and services that are available in Nepal or are soon arriving in the country,” says Birgunj Chamber of Commerce qand Industry (BCCI). The very first day of the NEXPO witnessed transaction of over Rs 10 million and over 15,000 visitors. The fair which will conclude on January 2 expects a crowd of 300,000 and a transaction of around Rs 200 million. Domestic and international manufacturers, suppliers, traders and the general public all are expected to benefit from the fair.

The fair has been organised with an objective to bring different product and services under one roof, said the organisers. Neighbouring countries such as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, too, have their stalls in the fair. Nepal operations of multinational companies like Dabur and Surya Nepal have their stalls in the fair. The banking and financial sector has also shown good presence in NEXPO 2011. The fair has also been hosting folk dances, fashion show, various sports, food festivals and live music for the entertainment of the visitors.

NEXPO 2011 has been organised by the BCCI in association with Nepal Government, FNCCI, and Micro, Cottage and Small Industries Development Fund. The fair was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai.
