The central bank on July 7 issued a circular to this effect. This has effectively ended the practice of bill discounting on Usance.</p> <p>The central bank issued the new circular after amending the legal provisions related to foreign exchange. Before this, banks were allowed to give discount on the Usance LC upon the mutual understanding of the exporters and the importers. But the concerned companies had to bear the interest and service charge for the discount on the Usance, which remains valid for a maximum of four months (120 days). In the banking practice, buying/exchanging of legally valid financial tools or using them as collateral to provide loans is called bill discounting.</p> <p>Until now, Nepali importers could make the payment for goods they receive from overseas after a certain time period from the date of delivery. The end of elections means that the villages will directly receive budget for development,” said Governor Nepal, during a function organized in the capital to mark the translocation of the central office of Garima Bikas Bank from Pokhara to Kathmandu.</p> <p>“The budget will be released for development projects in all 744 local unites from July 16 and we have already instructed commercial banks to open branches. Some banks have already decided to extend their branches,” he added.</p> <p>NRB Governor Nepal said that many local units in the new federal setup still lacks banking service and also warned that those banks which do not open new branches will be forced to open branches.</p> <p>During the function, chairman of Development Bankers Association, Nepal, Bharat Dhakal, expressed dissatisfaction towards the central bank’s decision to give authority only to the commercial banks to deal with transaction related to the budget allocated for the local level.</p> <p>“There are lots of development banks at the local level capable of handling the development works. Such already existing banks should not have been excluded,” said Dhakal.</p> <p>Meanwhile, Garima Bikas Bank’s CEO Govinda Prasad Dhakal said that the bank aims to give quality service to its customers and is planning to extend its branches.</p> <p>Garima Bikas Bank, which started its financial service from three districts in now a national level bank spread across ten districts. The service will be launched soon after installing electricity in both the places, he added.</p> <p>“We have managed electricity through solar sets in Okharbot and if the tower works there, it will benefit a large populace,” Senior Engineer Sharma said. Nepal Telecom has also brought a plan to set up new towers in Babiyachaur, the centre of Mangala Rural Municipality as well as in Simalchaur.</p> <p>Nepal Telecom has planned to replace VSat set in Tiblyang and rural areas like Mudi and Khiwang by establishing new towers. The central bank on July 7 issued a circular to this effect. This has effectively ended the practice of bill discounting on Usance.</p> <p>The central bank issued the new circular after amending the legal provisions related to foreign exchange. Before this, banks were allowed to give discount on the Usance LC upon the mutual understanding of the exporters and the importers. But the concerned companies had to bear the interest and service charge for the discount on the Usance, which remains valid for a maximum of four months (120 days). In the banking practice, buying/exchanging of legally valid financial tools or using them as collateral to provide loans is called bill discounting.</p> <p>Until now, Nepali importers could make the payment for goods they receive from overseas after a certain time period from the date of delivery. But the concerned companies had to bear the interest and service charge for the discount on the Usance, which remains valid for a maximum of four months (120 days). In the banking practice, buying/exchanging of legally valid financial tools or using them as collateral to provide loans is called bill discounting.</p> <p>Until now, Nepali importers could make the payment for goods they receive from overseas after a certain time period from the date of delivery. The end of elections means that the villages will directly receive budget for development,” said Governor Nepal, during a function organized in the capital to mark the translocation of the central office of Garima Bikas Bank from Pokhara to Kathmandu.</p> <p>“The budget will be released for development projects in all 744 local unites from July 16 and we have already instructed commercial banks to open branches. Some banks have already decided to extend their branches,” he added.</p> <p>NRB Governor Nepal said that many local units in the new federal setup still lacks banking service and also warned that those banks which do not open new branches will be forced to open branches.</p> <p>During the function, chairman of Development Bankers Association, Nepal, Bharat Dhakal, expressed dissatisfaction towards the central bank’s decision to give authority only to the commercial banks to deal with transaction related to the budget allocated for the local level.</p> <p>“There are lots of development banks at the local level capable of handling the development works. Such already existing banks should not have been excluded,” said Dhakal.</p> <p>Meanwhile, Garima Bikas Bank’s CEO Govinda Prasad Dhakal said that the bank aims to give quality service to its customers and is planning to extend its branches.</p> <p>Garima Bikas Bank, which started its financial service from three districts in now a national level bank spread across ten districts.
