But the entrepreneurs have been bearing the brunt of the decision.

In order to effectively implement the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2064, the government has made it compulsory for individuals, firms, companies or organizations to go through banking transactions while buying or selling any services and goods worth more than Rs 1 million starting from the first month of the current FY.

The provision will not have much impact on big business houses, according to Shekhar Golchha, senior vice-president of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).

Similarly, Rajesh Kaji Shrestha, president of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) mentioned that the traditional businesses are trying to adjust to the new system. However, small and cottage industry entrepreneurs said they are having a hard time due to the new directive.

According to the entrepreneurs, the provision has created problems specially while making payment for import raw materials. “Despite having money, we are not able to bring goods,” one of the entrepreneurs expressed his problem.

In addition, the entrepreneur said that in most of the situation transactions are done through cash payment and sometimes they also work in credit. “The changed provision has created problems for small transactions,” the entrepreneur said, adding, “Neither we can import raw materials fast through cash payment nor we can get the goods in credit like before.”

Meanwhile, Mohan Katuwal, president of the Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Scale Industries (FNCSI) said that the government needs to introduce alternative provisions before implementing provisions that can create trouble to the entrepreneurs.

Also, he further commented that the government’s decisions should be business friendly. To find out a solution to the problem, entrepreneurs have decided to hold public discussions and seek for assistance from ministers and related ministries, said sources.
', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2017-09-14', 'modified' => '2017-09-14', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '6368', 'image' => null, 'article_date' => '2017-09-14 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '16' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '6584', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Fulbari Resort Closed Indefinitely', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'September 14: Pokhara’s famed hotel, Fulbari Resort, has been shut down for an indefinite period due to the confrontation between the workers and the management committee. The five-star hotel came into operation about two decades ago with an investment of Rs 3 billion.

The workers and the hotel management had held talks time and again to resolve the issue related to the workers’ payment but to no avail. Finally, the workers decided to put off their strike and leave the hotel after the latter agreed to pay all the outstanding dues including those during the standoff period, informed Nabaraj Giri, vice president of the Fulbari chapter of All Nepal Hotel and Restaurant Workers Association.

After reaching the agreement with the workers, the management committee of the hotel decided to close the hotel for an indefinite period.

As per the understanding reached between the two sides, the hotel will be providing 40 percent of the dues right away and the remaining 60 percent after two months.

Besides the monthly salary, the workers will get all the benefits including social security fund and provident fund.

With the closure of the resort that had played an important role in tourism, 117 staff of the hotel have now become unemployed. According to Giri, all of the workers have left and the management itself is looking after the hotel.

Western Regional Hotel Association President Bikal Tulachan said that the closure of a hotel which has been synonymous to Pokhara’s tourism history would have negative impact on the overall tourism industry.

“Big and small hotel entrepreneurs have been worried after the incident. They have started thinking whether their investment is safe or not,” said Tulachan.

“It is unfortunate that the state became a mute spectator to the collapse of a sole enterprise, which had been contributing a lot to the state coffers,” he added.

The resort said it sent off its staff after it was unable to fulfill all the demands of the workers since it had remained shut for a long period.

The resort is spread across 209 ropanis of land.
