Sources privy to the latest development said that a cabinet meeting on Sunday decided to approve the work plan to restructure PAF, which has been working as an autonomous body so far.</p>

<p>The cabinet meeting has decided to keep PAF under the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation after the World Bank&rsquo;s agreement to provide grant assistance to PAF since the last 14 years expired since the beginning of the current fiscal year.</p>

<p>PAF, which was established in 2003 with the grant assistance from the World Bank (WB), has invested almost Rs 32 billion in the rural areas of the country to improve the livelihood of the poor people. In 2004, PAF initiated the work by starting different projects in six districts of the country.</p>

<p>PAF claims that 900,000 people of 62 districts have been benefitted from its projects. According to Shree Ram Subedi, spokesperson and information officer of PAF, the fund identifies the marginalized people, Dalits, indigenous groups and women to uplift their livelihood and financial condition.</p>

<p>A study of the WB in 2017 shows that the projects of PAF have uplifted the financial conditions of rural community by 19.5 percent. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ncell on Thursday (November 15) &nbsp;handed over cash prize of Rs 100,000 each to the winners of the 9<sup>th</sup> and 10<sup>th</sup> week whose verification processes were completed. Ramesh Ghimire, legal and corporate services director of Ncell, handed over the cash prizes to the three winners of the ninth week &ndash; Binod Thorlihang (Panchthar), Shyam Rajbanshi (Morang) and Dukh Ram Tharu (Kapilvastu) amid a function in the capital.</p>

<p>Six winners of the 10<sup>th</sup> week, Surya Narayan Kapari (Mahottari), Sona Gurung (Kaski), Suman Shrestha (Gorkha), Dina Kumari Kalikote (Sarlahi), Sudeep Chaudhary (Kailali) and Sujit Rajbahak (Kathmandu) also received the cash prize the same day.</p>

<p>Ncell said in a statement since one of the winners selected for the 10<sup>th</sup> week failed to qualify for the award as per the terms and conditions of the offer, a new winner was also selected on Thursday from the codes of the 10<sup>th</sup> week. The new winning code is 10-001867777.</p>

<p>With the completion of 10 weeks, the Recharge and Win campaign has come to an end on November 10. Under the offer, 100 Ncell customers have won Rs 100,000. Out of the 100 lucky winners, 64 winners have received their cash prize so far. According to Ncell, the remaining winners will be handed over with their prize once the verification processes are completed.</p>

<p>Issuing a statement, Kobelco said that the heavy equipment were donated by Japanese companies Tohoku Kurosawa Kensetsu and Hashimoto Kenki.</p>

<p>Masayuki Sato, who is the CEO of Tohoku Kurosawa Kensetsu, has been supporting for establishing kindergarten and water supply works in Nepal on donation basis since several years. For further contribution to the Nepali society, he and his company donated one unit of Kobelco mini excavator SK35SR-6 this time, reads the statement. In addition to the mini excavator, Hashimoto Kenki donated one unit of Hydraulic Rock Breaker to fit SK35SR-6 mini excavator.</p>

<p>Kobelco Construction Machinery said it will cover transportation cost and customs duty for the heavy equipment.</p>

<p>The machinery were handed over to Ok Baje, who has been active in social works in remote areas of Palpa and Mityal for the last 25 years.</p>

<p>Presently, over 700 Kobelco excavators are working in Nepal, which are supported by Pooja Construction Nepal Pvt Ltd.</p>

<p>According to RSS, the finance minister underlined the need for the protection and promotion of handicraft sector as well as its export acknowledging its supporting role for economic empowerment through employment generation.</p>

<p>&ldquo;He also highlighted the importance of developing indigenous art to meet the demand of global market while noting the handicraft would help preserve disappearing art and culture and steer ahead the country to the path of prosperity,&rdquo; RSS said in a news report.</p>

<p>FHAN Chairperson Dharmaraj Shakya said the Nepali handicraft industry is facing problems due to lack of policies and planning.</p>

<p>The five-day fair features a total of 170 stalls including 150 from domestic entrepreneurs and 20 from abroad where metal crafts, leather, wool, pasmina, wooden and Nepali paper products and medicinal herbs will be displayed.</p>

<p>The fair is being held under the theme of &#39;Handicraft: Prospect for Prosperity&rsquo; and will feature seminar, B2B workshops on current issues of handicraft industry, stall, as well as live demonstration of artisans.</p>

<p>Coordinator of the trade fair Hemanta Shakya expects transaction up to Rs 100 million during the fair.</p>

<p>As per a joint press statement issued by the government of Nepal and the World Bank, the first credit will finance USD 133 million for the improvement and maintenance of approximately 477 bridges along Nepal&rsquo;s Strategic Roads Network. Under the second agreement, Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) will provide a USD 22.7 million grant to support the Food and Nutrition Enhancement Project.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The second agreement aims to improve the health and livelihoods of approximately 65,000 direct beneficiaries, of which 65 percent target will be women. It will work with smallholder and marginal farmers to improve nutritional behavior by linking it with agriculture-related and income-enhancing activities. In addition, farmers from adjacent communities are expected to indirectly benefit through knowledge exchanges and other engagements from project-supported farmers,&rdquo; the statement reads.</p>

<p>The agreements were signed by Finance Secretary Rajan Khanal and the World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Qimiao Fan, in the presence of Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada.</p>

<p>&ldquo;With these two projects, the Government of Nepal and the World Bank will come together to ensure better livelihoods, access, trade and life opportunities for thousands of Nepalese people,&rdquo; said Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The first credit of USD 133 million will be instrumental in ensuring the well-being of the country&rsquo;s Strategic Roads Network, comprising of roughly 12,142 kilometers of national highways, feeder roads and other roads of national importance. The second project will be in the form of a grant of USD 22.7 million that contributes to the Government&rsquo;s capacity to deliver agriculture extension services at the decentralized levels, and to diversify income opportunities for the rural poor,&rdquo; he added.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are deepening our collaboration with the Government of Nepal through the development and sustainability of key strategic bridges, and through enhancement of food security and nutrition. These contribute greatly to Nepal&rsquo;s development storyline by addressing the need for connectivity, human capital development and shared prosperity,&rdquo; said Hartwig Schafer, vice president of World Bank for South Asia Region.</p>

<p>The WHO warned that undiagnosed or poorly controlled diabetes type 1 and type 2 can cause heart, kidney, nerve and eye damage, as well as premature death.</p>

<p>According to the WHO, families that know the signs, symptoms, risks and complications of diabetes are best positioned to prevent the disease and seek medical care to manage it.</p>

<p>The importance families have in creating awareness of the risks of diabetes &ndash; including overweight and obesity &ndash; and in preventing and managing it, reads a statement issued by WHO.</p>

<p>As part of the Region&rsquo;s Flagship Priority of tackling noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) &ndash; to which diabetes is a major contributor &ndash; Member States Region-wide can empower families to address the disease and enhance health outcomes, according to the WHO.</p>

<p>&ldquo;That should occur at the same time as increasing access to services for diabetes and other NCDs at the primary health care level, as outlined in the Colombo Declaration adopted Region-wide in 2016,&rdquo; the statement said.</p>

<p>WHO&rsquo;s South-East Asia Region comprises the following 11 member states: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Democratic People&rsquo;s Republic of Korea, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Timor-Leste.</p>

<p>The finance minister expressed his appreciation to the organizers for choosing Nepal as venue to hold this important meeting.</p>

<p>In his opening address, the Minister Khatiwada stressed that foreign aid resources must complement, rather than crowd out, domestic resources mobilization. He expressed his view that the ultimate objective of any aid program should be to build domestic resource capacity so that the recipient countries such as Nepal can reduce, rather than prolong, their dependency on aid.</p>

<p>The minister also stressed on the importance of improving transparency of aid resources, noting that transparency is the basis for accountability, which in turn ensures that development cooperation resources are better managed for results.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Development cooperation must support efforts to avoid conflict, protect harmonious social fabric, build peace, and improve global governance,&rdquo; the statement quoted the minister as saying.</p>

<p>The minister also recalled the aid effectiveness principles set out in the Paris Declaration and the Accra Agenda for Action, suggesting that initiatives like IATI have an important role to play in monitoring the implementation of such principles.</p>

<p>With reference to the Sustainable Development Goals, he asked the audience to consider whether there should be a specific indicator in SDG 17 focusing on ensuring aid transparency.</p>

<p>While appreciating the role of global aid transparency initiatives such as IATI, the minister also recognized the enabling role that partner countries such as Nepal must play, including in the design of credible programs, strategies and policies which allow for cooperation resources to produce intended results.</p>

<p>Started in 2008, IATI is a global, multi-stakeholder initiative that seeks to improve the transparency of development and humanitarian resources for addressing poverty and crisis. It&rsquo;s technical advisory group is an expert community that informs IATI&rsquo;s approach to data publication and use.</p>

Sources privy to the latest development said that a cabinet meeting on Sunday decided to approve the work plan to restructure PAF, which has been working as an autonomous body so far.</p>

<p>The cabinet meeting has decided to keep PAF under the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation after the World Bank&rsquo;s agreement to provide grant assistance to PAF since the last 14 years expired since the beginning of the current fiscal year.</p>

<p>PAF, which was established in 2003 with the grant assistance from the World Bank (WB), has invested almost Rs 32 billion in the rural areas of the country to improve the livelihood of the poor people. In 2004, PAF initiated the work by starting different projects in six districts of the country.</p>

<p>PAF claims that 900,000 people of 62 districts have been benefitted from its projects. According to Shree Ram Subedi, spokesperson and information officer of PAF, the fund identifies the marginalized people, Dalits, indigenous groups and women to uplift their livelihood and financial condition.</p>

<p>A study of the WB in 2017 shows that the projects of PAF have uplifted the financial conditions of rural community by 19.5 percent. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Masayuki Sato, who is the CEO of Tohoku Kurosawa Kensetsu, has been supporting for establishing kindergarten and water supply works in Nepal on donation basis since several years. For further contribution to the Nepali society, he and his company donated one unit of Kobelco mini excavator SK35SR-6 this time, reads the statement. In addition to the mini excavator, Hashimoto Kenki donated one unit of Hydraulic Rock Breaker to fit SK35SR-6 mini excavator.</p>

<p>Kobelco Construction Machinery said it will cover transportation cost and customs duty for the heavy equipment.</p>

<p>The machinery were handed over to Ok Baje, who has been active in social works in remote areas of Palpa and Mityal for the last 25 years.</p>

<p>Presently, over 700 Kobelco excavators are working in Nepal, which are supported by Pooja Construction Nepal Pvt Ltd.</p>

<p>Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada gave such assurance on Wednesday, November 14, while inaugurating the Handicraft Trade Fair and 14th Craft Competition organized by the Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN) at Bhrikutimandap.</p>

<p>According to RSS, the finance minister underlined the need for the protection and promotion of handicraft sector as well as its export acknowledging its supporting role for economic empowerment through employment generation.</p>

<p>&ldquo;He also highlighted the importance of developing indigenous art to meet the demand of global market while noting the handicraft would help preserve disappearing art and culture and steer ahead the country to the path of prosperity,&rdquo; RSS said in a news report.</p>

<p>FHAN Chairperson Dharmaraj Shakya said the Nepali handicraft industry is facing problems due to lack of policies and planning.</p>

<p>The five-day fair features a total of 170 stalls including 150 from domestic entrepreneurs and 20 from abroad where metal crafts, leather, wool, pasmina, wooden and Nepali paper products and medicinal herbs will be displayed.</p>

<p>The fair is being held under the theme of &#39;Handicraft: Prospect for Prosperity&rsquo; and will feature seminar, B2B workshops on current issues of handicraft industry, stall, as well as live demonstration of artisans.</p>

<p>Coordinator of the trade fair Hemanta Shakya expects transaction up to Rs 100 million during the fair.</p>

<p>As per a joint press statement issued by the government of Nepal and the World Bank, the first credit will finance USD 133 million for the improvement and maintenance of approximately 477 bridges along Nepal&rsquo;s Strategic Roads Network. Under the second agreement, Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) will provide a USD 22.7 million grant to support the Food and Nutrition Enhancement Project.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The second agreement aims to improve the health and livelihoods of approximately 65,000 direct beneficiaries, of which 65 percent target will be women. It will work with smallholder and marginal farmers to improve nutritional behavior by linking it with agriculture-related and income-enhancing activities. In addition, farmers from adjacent communities are expected to indirectly benefit through knowledge exchanges and other engagements from project-supported farmers,&rdquo; the statement reads.</p>

<p>The agreements were signed by Finance Secretary Rajan Khanal and the World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Qimiao Fan, in the presence of Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada.</p>

<p>&ldquo;With these two projects, the Government of Nepal and the World Bank will come together to ensure better livelihoods, access, trade and life opportunities for thousands of Nepalese people,&rdquo; said Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The first credit of USD 133 million will be instrumental in ensuring the well-being of the country&rsquo;s Strategic Roads Network, comprising of roughly 12,142 kilometers of national highways, feeder roads and other roads of national importance. The second project will be in the form of a grant of USD 22.7 million that contributes to the Government&rsquo;s capacity to deliver agriculture extension services at the decentralized levels, and to diversify income opportunities for the rural poor,&rdquo; he added.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are deepening our collaboration with the Government of Nepal through the development and sustainability of key strategic bridges, and through enhancement of food security and nutrition. These contribute greatly to Nepal&rsquo;s development storyline by addressing the need for connectivity, human capital development and shared prosperity,&rdquo; said Hartwig Schafer, vice president of World Bank for South Asia Region.</p>

<p>&ldquo;That should occur at the same time as increasing access to services for diabetes and other NCDs at the primary health care level, as outlined in the Colombo Declaration adopted Region-wide in 2016,&rdquo; the statement said.</p>

<p>In his opening address, the Minister Khatiwada stressed that foreign aid resources must complement, rather than crowd out, domestic resources mobilization. He expressed his view that the ultimate objective of any aid program should be to build domestic resource capacity so that the recipient countries such as Nepal can reduce, rather than prolong, their dependency on aid.</p>

<p>The minister also stressed on the importance of improving transparency of aid resources, noting that transparency is the basis for accountability, which in turn ensures that development cooperation resources are better managed for results.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Development cooperation must support efforts to avoid conflict, protect harmonious social fabric, build peace, and improve global governance,&rdquo; the statement quoted the minister as saying.</p>

<p>The minister also recalled the aid effectiveness principles set out in the Paris Declaration and the Accra Agenda for Action, suggesting that initiatives like IATI have an important role to play in monitoring the implementation of such principles.</p>

<p>With reference to the Sustainable Development Goals, he asked the audience to consider whether there should be a specific indicator in SDG 17 focusing on ensuring aid transparency.</p>

<p>While appreciating the role of global aid transparency initiatives such as IATI, the minister also recognized the enabling role that partner countries such as Nepal must play, including in the design of credible programs, strategies and policies which allow for cooperation resources to produce intended results.</p>

<p>Started in 2008, IATI is a global, multi-stakeholder initiative that seeks to improve the transparency of development and humanitarian resources for addressing poverty and crisis. It&rsquo;s technical advisory group is an expert community that informs IATI&rsquo;s approach to data publication and use.</p>

Sources privy to the latest development said that a cabinet meeting on Sunday decided to approve the work plan to restructure PAF, which has been working as an autonomous body so far.</p>

<p>The cabinet meeting has decided to keep PAF under the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation after the World Bank&rsquo;s agreement to provide grant assistance to PAF since the last 14 years expired since the beginning of the current fiscal year.</p>

<p>PAF, which was established in 2003 with the grant assistance from the World Bank (WB), has invested almost Rs 32 billion in the rural areas of the country to improve the livelihood of the poor people. In 2004, PAF initiated the work by starting different projects in six districts of the country.</p>

<p>PAF claims that 900,000 people of 62 districts have been benefitted from its projects. According to Shree Ram Subedi, spokesperson and information officer of PAF, the fund identifies the marginalized people, Dalits, indigenous groups and women to uplift their livelihood and financial condition.</p>

<p>A study of the WB in 2017 shows that the projects of PAF have uplifted the financial conditions of rural community by 19.5 percent. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Masayuki Sato, who is the CEO of Tohoku Kurosawa Kensetsu, has been supporting for establishing kindergarten and water supply works in Nepal on donation basis since several years. For further contribution to the Nepali society, he and his company donated one unit of Kobelco mini excavator SK35SR-6 this time, reads the statement. In addition to the mini excavator, Hashimoto Kenki donated one unit of Hydraulic Rock Breaker to fit SK35SR-6 mini excavator.</p>

<p>Kobelco Construction Machinery said it will cover transportation cost and customs duty for the heavy equipment.</p>

<p>The machinery were handed over to Ok Baje, who has been active in social works in remote areas of Palpa and Mityal for the last 25 years.</p>

<p>Presently, over 700 Kobelco excavators are working in Nepal, which are supported by Pooja Construction Nepal Pvt Ltd.</p>

<p>As per a joint press statement issued by the government of Nepal and the World Bank, the first credit will finance USD 133 million for the improvement and maintenance of approximately 477 bridges along Nepal&rsquo;s Strategic Roads Network. Under the second agreement, Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) will provide a USD 22.7 million grant to support the Food and Nutrition Enhancement Project.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The second agreement aims to improve the health and livelihoods of approximately 65,000 direct beneficiaries, of which 65 percent target will be women. It will work with smallholder and marginal farmers to improve nutritional behavior by linking it with agriculture-related and income-enhancing activities. In addition, farmers from adjacent communities are expected to indirectly benefit through knowledge exchanges and other engagements from project-supported farmers,&rdquo; the statement reads.</p>

<p>The agreements were signed by Finance Secretary Rajan Khanal and the World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Qimiao Fan, in the presence of Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada.</p>

<p>&ldquo;With these two projects, the Government of Nepal and the World Bank will come together to ensure better livelihoods, access, trade and life opportunities for thousands of Nepalese people,&rdquo; said Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The first credit of USD 133 million will be instrumental in ensuring the well-being of the country&rsquo;s Strategic Roads Network, comprising of roughly 12,142 kilometers of national highways, feeder roads and other roads of national importance. The second project will be in the form of a grant of USD 22.7 million that contributes to the Government&rsquo;s capacity to deliver agriculture extension services at the decentralized levels, and to diversify income opportunities for the rural poor,&rdquo; he added.</p>

He expressed his view that the ultimate objective of any aid program should be to build domestic resource capacity so that the recipient countries such as Nepal can reduce, rather than prolong, their dependency on aid.</p>

<p>The minister also stressed on the importance of improving transparency of aid resources, noting that transparency is the basis for accountability, which in turn ensures that development cooperation resources are better managed for results.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Development cooperation must support efforts to avoid conflict, protect harmonious social fabric, build peace, and improve global governance,&rdquo; the statement quoted the minister as saying.</p>

<p>The minister also recalled the aid effectiveness principles set out in the Paris Declaration and the Accra Agenda for Action, suggesting that initiatives like IATI have an important role to play in monitoring the implementation of such principles.</p>

<p>With reference to the Sustainable Development Goals, he asked the audience to consider whether there should be a specific indicator in SDG 17 focusing on ensuring aid transparency.</p>

<p>While appreciating the role of global aid transparency initiatives such as IATI, the minister also recognized the enabling role that partner countries such as Nepal must play, including in the design of credible programs, strategies and policies which allow for cooperation resources to produce intended results.</p>

<p>Started in 2008, IATI is a global, multi-stakeholder initiative that seeks to improve the transparency of development and humanitarian resources for addressing poverty and crisis. It&rsquo;s technical advisory group is an expert community that informs IATI&rsquo;s approach to data publication and use.</p>

Sources privy to the latest development said that a cabinet meeting on Sunday decided to approve the work plan to restructure PAF, which has been working as an autonomous body so far.</p>

<p>The cabinet meeting has decided to keep PAF under the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation after the World Bank&rsquo;s agreement to provide grant assistance to PAF since the last 14 years expired since the beginning of the current fiscal year.</p>

<p>PAF, which was established in 2003 with the grant assistance from the World Bank (WB), has invested almost Rs 32 billion in the rural areas of the country to improve the livelihood of the poor people. In 2004, PAF initiated the work by starting different projects in six districts of the country.</p>

<p>PAF claims that 900,000 people of 62 districts have been benefitted from its projects. According to Shree Ram Subedi, spokesperson and information officer of PAF, the fund identifies the marginalized people, Dalits, indigenous groups and women to uplift their livelihood and financial condition.</p>

<p>A study of the WB in 2017 shows that the projects of PAF have uplifted the financial conditions of rural community by 19.5 percent. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ncell said in a statement since one of the winners selected for the 10<sup>th</sup> week failed to qualify for the award as per the terms and conditions of the offer, a new winner was also selected on Thursday from the codes of the 10<sup>th</sup> week. The new winning code is 10-001867777.</p>

<p>With the completion of 10 weeks, the Recharge and Win campaign has come to an end on November 10. Under the offer, 100 Ncell customers have won Rs 100,000. <p>Masayuki Sato, who is the CEO of Tohoku Kurosawa Kensetsu, has been supporting for establishing kindergarten and water supply works in Nepal on donation basis since several years. For further contribution to the Nepali society, he and his company donated one unit of Kobelco mini excavator SK35SR-6 this time, reads the statement. In addition to the mini excavator, Hashimoto Kenki donated one unit of Hydraulic Rock Breaker to fit SK35SR-6 mini excavator.</p>

<p>Kobelco Construction Machinery said it will cover transportation cost and customs duty for the heavy equipment.</p>

<p>The machinery were handed over to Ok Baje, who has been active in social works in remote areas of Palpa and Mityal for the last 25 years.</p>

<p>Presently, over 700 Kobelco excavators are working in Nepal, which are supported by Pooja Construction Nepal Pvt Ltd.</p>

			'content' => '<p>November 15: The Government of Nepal and the World Bank signed two agreements totaling USD 155.7 million to be invested in the construction and maintenance of safe, resilient and cost-effective bridges in Nepal, and in improving food security of vulnerable households and communities in the country.</p>

<p>As per a joint press statement issued by the government of Nepal and the World Bank, the first credit will finance USD 133 million for the improvement and maintenance of approximately 477 bridges along Nepal&rsquo;s Strategic Roads Network. Under the second agreement, Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) will provide a USD 22.7 million grant to support the Food and Nutrition Enhancement Project.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The second agreement aims to improve the health and livelihoods of approximately 65,000 direct beneficiaries, of which 65 percent target will be women. It will work with smallholder and marginal farmers to improve nutritional behavior by linking it with agriculture-related and income-enhancing activities. In addition, farmers from adjacent communities are expected to indirectly benefit through knowledge exchanges and other engagements from project-supported farmers,&rdquo; the statement reads.</p>

<p>The agreements were signed by Finance Secretary Rajan Khanal and the World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Qimiao Fan, in the presence of Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada.</p>

<p>&ldquo;With these two projects, the Government of Nepal and the World Bank will come together to ensure better livelihoods, access, trade and life opportunities for thousands of Nepalese people,&rdquo; said Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The first credit of USD 133 million will be instrumental in ensuring the well-being of the country&rsquo;s Strategic Roads Network, comprising of roughly 12,142 kilometers of national highways, feeder roads and other roads of national importance. The second project will be in the form of a grant of USD 22.7 million that contributes to the Government&rsquo;s capacity to deliver agriculture extension services at the decentralized levels, and to diversify income opportunities for the rural poor,&rdquo; he added.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are deepening our collaboration with the Government of Nepal through the development and sustainability of key strategic bridges, and through enhancement of food security and nutrition. These contribute greatly to Nepal&rsquo;s development storyline by addressing the need for connectivity, human capital development and shared prosperity,&rdquo; said Hartwig Schafer, vice president of World Bank for South Asia Region.</p>

<p>The WHO warned that undiagnosed or poorly controlled diabetes type 1 and type 2 can cause heart, kidney, nerve and eye damage, as well as premature death.</p>

<p>According to the WHO, families that know the signs, symptoms, risks and complications of diabetes are best positioned to prevent the disease and seek medical care to manage it.</p>

<p>The importance families have in creating awareness of the risks of diabetes &ndash; including overweight and obesity &ndash; and in preventing and managing it, reads a statement issued by WHO.</p>

<p>As part of the Region&rsquo;s Flagship Priority of tackling noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) &ndash; to which diabetes is a major contributor &ndash; Member States Region-wide can empower families to address the disease and enhance health outcomes, according to the WHO.</p>

<p>&ldquo;That should occur at the same time as increasing access to services for diabetes and other NCDs at the primary health care level, as outlined in the Colombo Declaration adopted Region-wide in 2016,&rdquo; the statement said.</p>

<p>WHO&rsquo;s South-East Asia Region comprises the following 11 member states: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Democratic People&rsquo;s Republic of Korea, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Timor-Leste.</p>

<p>According to the ministry, more than 150 representatives of the governments of all the regions of the world, development partners, civil society members and media will be attending the 3-day meeting at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza.</p>

<p>&ldquo;This meeting holds special importance for Nepal for the reason that the venue of this meeting has been chosen in Asia for the first time in the history of the organization,&rdquo; reads a statement issued by the ministry.</p>

<p>The finance minister expressed his appreciation to the organizers for choosing Nepal as venue to hold this important meeting.</p>

<p>In his opening address, the Minister Khatiwada stressed that foreign aid resources must complement, rather than crowd out, domestic resources mobilization. He expressed his view that the ultimate objective of any aid program should be to build domestic resource capacity so that the recipient countries such as Nepal can reduce, rather than prolong, their dependency on aid.</p>

<p>The minister also stressed on the importance of improving transparency of aid resources, noting that transparency is the basis for accountability, which in turn ensures that development cooperation resources are better managed for results.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Development cooperation must support efforts to avoid conflict, protect harmonious social fabric, build peace, and improve global governance,&rdquo; the statement quoted the minister as saying.</p>

<p>The minister also recalled the aid effectiveness principles set out in the Paris Declaration and the Accra Agenda for Action, suggesting that initiatives like IATI have an important role to play in monitoring the implementation of such principles.</p>

<p>With reference to the Sustainable Development Goals, he asked the audience to consider whether there should be a specific indicator in SDG 17 focusing on ensuring aid transparency.</p>

<p>While appreciating the role of global aid transparency initiatives such as IATI, the minister also recognized the enabling role that partner countries such as Nepal must play, including in the design of credible programs, strategies and policies which allow for cooperation resources to produce intended results.</p>

<p>Started in 2008, IATI is a global, multi-stakeholder initiative that seeks to improve the transparency of development and humanitarian resources for addressing poverty and crisis. It&rsquo;s technical advisory group is an expert community that informs IATI&rsquo;s approach to data publication and use.</p>
