The company launched its operations in Kathmandu in May 2017 and is currently present across Pokhara, Dhulikhel, Bhaktapur, Nagarkot, Chitwan, Biratnagar, Hetauda, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi.

According to the company, over 200+ franchised hotels with 3,400+ exclusive rooms are a part of OYO’s chain in Nepal.

“Backed by strong local talent and execution, the company has been consistently growing its footprint in the country while reiterating its strong commitment towards adding value to Nepal’s hospitality industry,” reads a statement issued by OYO.

Commenting on the development, Aditya Ghosh, CEO of OYO Hotels and Homes for India and South Asia, said, ‘’We commenced our operations in Nepal and have learnt a lot from the country’s hospitality landscape and the huge opportunity it offers. We are focused on growing our presence to ensure high-quality, affordable experiences for tourists while driving high and consistent yields for asset owners.”

Ghosh said that the company is investing IRs 14 billion (Rs 22.4 billion) for India and South Asia.

“With Nepal as a strategic market, we are working tirelessly to transform the country’s hospitality industry by adding value to every form of real estate and creating quality living spaces,’’ he added.

After gaining a stronghold in its home markets in India and China, OYO Hotels and Homes said Nepal has emerged as the next big opportunity for the company.

The statement further said there is a huge disconnect between demand and supply of quality living spaces, forcing travellers and Nepalese to compromise on location, quality and price. OYO said it uses technology and talent to fix this problem.

Since its launch in Nepal, OYO claimed it has transformed over 200+ hotels to ensure standardization and consistency in the guest experience. The company’s approach towards transforming and renovating living spaces is powered by technology.

Aditya further added, ‘’We are persistent in bringing the best OYO experience to Nepal for global travellers and are committed to the country’s vision 2020. Our expansion to 10 cities in Nepal is a testament to the trust and confidence that our asset owners and guests have shown in us. ', 'content' => '
May 6: Cases related to heart attacks are not always caused by blockage in arteries, a new study has found. The study conducted by renowned Indian interventional cardiologist Dr Rajneesh Kapoor who is the vice-chairman of interventional cardiology at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, India, has cited spasm and inflammation as other reasons behind the heart attacks besides the coronary obstructions.

At a press meet organised in Kathmandu on May 4, Dr Kapoor explained the findings that are based on a research of selected records of 1,025 patients whom he treated from 2016 to 2018. According to Dr Kapoor, four percent of the heart attack cases were caused by vasospasm and inflammation, and the patients of such cases may not require stents in treatments that are generally used to open arterial blockages.

In medical terms, such condition is called Myocardial Infarction with Non-obstructive Coronary Arteries (MINOCA). Almost 90 percent of MINOCA cases were seen in women and young patients. Among the patients, 76 percent were men and 24 percent were women. Likewise, 34 percent were less than 40 years old with two patients less than 30 years old. Demographic classification showed 5 percent from Nepal, 3 percent from Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and 92 percent from India.

The study population was treated using very advance diagnostic tools called OCT that provide 3D scans of internal structures that help in accuracy in treatments, even life-saving in few cases.

“Most of the times if no angiography no blockages are seen then the patient is sent back home without any further treatment. This leads to missing out on complete diagnosis, which may leave patient untreated and at risk of another event,” he said, adding that the practice of advance interventional cardiology enables doctors to understand the underlying problems of the patients so that each patient are provided with the most disease specific therapies to prevent recurrence and improve outcomes.

As per the study, 98 percent of heart patients from Nepal were found to consume tobacco regularly. “It is estimated in reports that prevalence of tobacco consumption will be 25 percent of the total population by 2025 and upto 40 percent by 2050. This makes hundreds of thousands of Nepalese population at risk of heart attack in the next few years,” the study warns.

Other risk factor noted for triggering of heart disease in Nepal are alcohol consumption, hypertension, stress, physical inactivity, belly fat and diabetes, according to Dr Kapoor.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-05-05', 'modified' => '2019-05-06', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10375', 'image' => '20190505050920_IMG-20190504-WA0006.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-05-05 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10623', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Will Nepal be able to Export Cement?', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'May 5: Cement manufacturers have given mixed reaction to the government’s announcement of making cement one of the chief export products of Nepal. The government has given high priority in exporting cement in the policy and programme announced on Friday (May 3).

Although the cement manufacturers are happy about the government’s announcement, whether exporting cement will be possible or not will be known only after the implementation of the policy and programme since the country is at present producing cement less than its production capacity.

The major challenge for the cement industries is reducing the cost of production.

Dhruva Thapa, president of Cement Producers’ Association, says that exporting cement will not remain a pipe dream if the government facilitates them cost reduction.

“It is possible for Nepal to export cement but first of all the government must sort out some of the obstacles in exporting cement,” he said.

“The departments of forest, mines and land reform are seeking immediate benefit from cement manufacturers by charging high tax. Instead of short-term profit, the government should facilitate in properly establishing cement industries,” he added.

Thapa argues that the cement produced in Nepal will be too costly to compete in the international market due to multiple layers of taxation charged by the local, provincial and the federal governments and also because of the transportation and electricity charges.

Other cement producers are also of the view that exporting cement is not possible until the cost of production is reduced.

Director of RMC Group, Rajesh Agrawal, who has invested Rs 9 billion in RMC and Palpa Cement, says that it is not possible to export cement in the current scenario.

“We import coal for manufacturing cement. For this, we have to pay for the transportation of raw materials and five percent customs duty,” he said, adding, “The mines of limestone in Nepal are not easily accessible. On the other hand, cement producers in India do not have to bear any expense for limestone. In such situation, it is not possible to compete in the international marker,” he said.

Of late, the number of cement industries is growing in Nepal. Although this indicates increase in production, the cost factor remains to trouble the producers.

According to Nepal Cement Producers’ Association, there are altogether 61 cement industries across Nepal.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-05-05', 'modified' => '2019-05-05', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10374', 'image' => '20190505041030_20190201021308_maxresdefault (1).jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-05-05 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 3 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10622', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'NAC Announces Schedule for Osaka Flights from July 4', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'May 5: The Nepal Airlines Corporation is all set to fly to Japan for three days a week from July 4.', 'content' => '
May 5: The Nepal Airlines Corporation is all set to fly to Japan for three days a week from July 4.

The national flag carrier of Nepal will fly to Osaka as the flights to the Japanese city resumes after a long gap of 12 years.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-05-05', 'modified' => '2019-05-06', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10375', 'image' => '20190505050920_IMG-20190504-WA0006.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-05-05 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10623', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Will Nepal be able to Export Cement?', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'May 5: Cement manufacturers have given mixed reaction to the government’s announcement of making cement one of the chief export products of Nepal. The government has given high priority in exporting cement in the policy and programme announced on Friday (May 3).

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-05-05', 'modified' => '2019-05-05', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10374', 'image' => '20190505041030_20190201021308_maxresdefault (1).jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-05-05 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 3 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10622', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'NAC Announces Schedule for Osaka Flights from July 4', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'May 5: The Nepal Airlines Corporation is all set to fly to Japan for three days a week from July 4.', 'content' => '
May 5: The Nepal Airlines Corporation is all set to fly to Japan for three days a week from July 4.

The national flag carrier of Nepal will fly to Osaka as the flights to the Japanese city resumes after a long gap of 12 years. This equals to the amount of carbon released by approximately 325,165 trees growing over 10 years. The emission from its flight operations accounts for over 99.9 percent of its total GHG emissions.

As part of the emission reduction plan, between 2017 and 2018, the airline said it was able to reduce the CO2 equivalent emissions per flight km by 20 percent and per passenger by 12 percent after adopting a more fuel-efficient aircraft fleet.

The airline has achieved lower per passenger GHG emissions by expanding its fleet of fuel-efficient aircraft -- ATR72-500 -- while gradually phasing out its Jetstream 41 operations.

In addition, implementing more efficient flight operations, streamlining ground procedures, improving airport infrastructures, creating public awareness and staff training are the other vital GHG reduction strategies being enacted by the company, reads the statement.

Yeti Airlines was also able to offset its GHG emissions by procuring carbon credits (Certified Emission Reductions) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) through ‘Climate Neutral Now’ platform.

In the past, Yeti Airlines said it undertook various environmental and social projects such as the Yeti Green Re-forestation Project, Green Far West Project and the Everest Clean Up campaign.

“Providing the largest network of flight routes in Nepal, Yeti Airlines works tirelessly to raise its standards of customer service whilst working to help protect the environment in which it exists,” said Umesh Chandra Rai, chief executive officer of Yeti Airlines.

“We have pledged to demonstrate our leadership in aligning and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in every opportunity, particularly promoting Gender Equality, Climate Action and Partnership for the Goals.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-05-05', 'modified' => '2019-05-06', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10375', 'image' => '20190505050920_IMG-20190504-WA0006.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-05-05 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10623', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Will Nepal be able to Export Cement?', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'May 5: Cement manufacturers have given mixed reaction to the government’s announcement of making cement one of the chief export products of Nepal. The government has given high priority in exporting cement in the policy and programme announced on Friday (May 3).

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-05-05', 'modified' => '2019-05-05', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10374', 'image' => '20190505041030_20190201021308_maxresdefault (1).jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-05-05 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 3 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10622', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'NAC Announces Schedule for Osaka Flights from July 4', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'May 5: The Nepal Airlines Corporation is all set to fly to Japan for three days a week from July 4.', 'content' => '

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-05-05', 'modified' => '2019-05-06', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10375', 'image' => '20190505050920_IMG-20190504-WA0006.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-05-05 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 2 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10623', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Will Nepal be able to Export Cement?', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'May 5: Cement manufacturers have given mixed reaction to the government’s announcement of making cement one of the chief export products of Nepal. The government has given high priority in exporting cement in the policy and programme announced on Friday (May 3).
