Culinary TourismIndia’s Minister of State for Human Resource Development Dr Shashi Tharoor has called for steps to promote culinary tourism in India. Speaking at the recently concluded Indian Culinary Forum held in New Delhi, Tharoor said there is rich diversity of foods available in the country and the varied regional cuisine should be better exposed among international and domestic tourists. The summit looked at offering cuisine experiences and visits to farms and kitchen, so that visitors can experience the diversity and authentic cuisine of the country. Anil Bhandari, chairman of Smart Solutions said, “In the growing food industry, only 30% was in the organised sector, while 70% in the unorganised sector. Brand identity and consistency are important.” Chef Davindar Kumar, president of Indian Culinary Forum opined that culinary tourism would offer a unique and memorable experience but maintaining authenticity is important.
