Tourist Arrival On A Decline European Markets Offer Hope

The figures released by Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have revealed that the visitor arrivals in the month of June 2013, compared to the same month last year, have decreased by 4.6 per cent to 41,259. In aggregate, the South Asian segment has registered negative growth of 12.5 per cent. India has recorded negative growth of 15.3 per cent. Also, arrivals from Pakistan have decreased by 28.8 per cent. However, arrivals from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have increased by 53.8per cent and 62.9 per cent respectively.

Arrivals from Asia (other than South Asia) have recorded positive growth of 20.8per cent in aggregate. The visitor arrivals from China grew by 25.7 per cent compared to the same month last year. Similarly, the arrivals from Malaysia and Singapore have also increased by 195.1 per cent and 3.5per cent respectively. Japan, South Korea and Thailand markets saw declines of 10.5 per cent, 23.4 per cent and 18.8 per cent respectively. 

An overall positive growth of 1.4 per cent has been observed from the European markets with arrivals from markets such as the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain up by 2.6 per cent, 14.7per cent, 24.5per cent, 6.1per cent and 15.9per cent respectively. 

Between January to June 2013, international tourist arrivals to Nepal have declined by 3.9 per cent to 282,429 in aggregate. A total of 50,312 foreign tourists departed from TIA in June 2013. The number of Nepali arrivals stood at 57,931 while 82,167 Nepalis departed from TIA in June 2013.

Nepal Promoted in North Indian Cities 

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Western Region Hotel Association, Pokhara jointly organized a 3-city Border Town Sales Mission 2013 in North India. According to a press release from NTB, The mission was carried out with the aim of increasing awareness and educating the North Indian travellers on Nepal’s tourism products and offerings. The Sales Mission was organized in Varanasi, Allahabad and Faizabad on 25, 26, and 27 June respectively.
