However, the World Bank said in a statement that the region needs to increase its exports to sustain its high growth and reach its full economic potential

The latest edition of the South Asia Economic Focus states that the region’s growth, while still robust, is mainly driven by domestic demand, which in turn swelled imports and far outstripped exports, further widening trade gaps and current account deficits, and triggering currency depreciation in some countries.

“South Asia’s exports performance has dropped in the last few years to languish at far below its potential and while growth still looks robust we are concerned about whether this can hold up over the longer term,” the statement quoted Hartwig Schafer, World Bank’s vice president for the South Asia Region, as saying.

“To ensure growth in the long run, the region needs to integrate further into international markets to sustain its upward growth trajectory, create more jobs, and boost prosperity for its people,” he added.

Across South Asia, imports grew much stronger than exports in the last two years, reversing the region’s exports dynamics of the early 2000s. Strong domestic demand, fueled by a consumption and investment boom, resulted in high import growth of 14.9 percent in 2017 and 15.6 percent in 2018, which is nearly twice as high as the region’s export growth. In comparison, exports grew by only 4.6 percent in 2017 and 9.7 percent in 2018.

“To ensure growth in the long run, the region needs to integrate further into international markets,” said Hans Timmer, World Bank’s chief economist for the South Asia Region.

“Efforts should include trade liberalization, spurring entrepreneurship, and equipping citizens with the skills they need to compete on the global market. It addresses the broader determinants of health and focuses on comprehensive and interrelated aspects of physical, mental, and social health and wellbeing. A fit-for-purpose workforce is essential to deliver PHC, and the world has an estimated shortfall of 18 million health workers.

Globally, at least half of the world’s population still do not have full coverage of essential health services, while about 100 million people are still being pushed into extreme poverty (defined as living on 1.90 USD or less a day) because they must pay for health care.

WHO said all United Nations member states have agreed to try to achieve UHC by 2030, as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-04-08', 'modified' => '2019-04-08', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10156', 'image' => '20190408104120_World Health Day 2019_2.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-04-08 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 9 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10403', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Hailstones Destroy Crops in Dailekh', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'April 8: Bel Nepali of Thatikadh Rural Municipality in Dailekh district has a seven-member family. The company unveiled P30 Pro, P30 and P30 Lite amid a function held at Yak and Yeti Hotel on April 7. According to the company, the phones will be available for sales from April 12 in the market.

“The Huwei P30 Series builds on the Huawei P series DNA in design and groundbreaking photography and is the company’s most advanced series of smartphone cameras. The P30 series feature the innovative Huawei SuperSpectrum Sensor, an optical super zoom lens, a new Huawei Time of Flight (ToF) camera, and enhanced optical and AI image stabilisation technology,” the company said in a press statement.

Huawei claimed that the P30 series is sure to set pace for the next generation of smartphones by empowering people to capture the true beauty of the world around them. “Achieving a record-high overall DxOMark score of 112, the P30 Pro is equipped with a new Leica Quad camera system, including a 40MP main camera with the Huawi SuperSpectrum Sensor, a 20MP ultra-wide angle camera, an 8MP telephoto camera, the Huawei ToF camera and a 32MP front camera that takes selfies to a new level,” reads the statement.

According to Huawei, the 1/1.7-inch SuperSpectrum sensor is fundamentally different than other image processors. “The RYYB Huawei SuperSpectrum sensor deviates from the traditional RGGB Bayer filter by replacing green pixels with yellow pixels, yielding a high maximum ISO rating of 409,600 on the P30 Pro and 204,800 on the P30,” informs the company.

Huawei says that this fundamental shift in sensor technology, combined with Huawi AIS, OIS and P30 Pro’s f/1.6 wide aperture, delivers extraordinary photography and videography experiences across a wide range of scenarios and lighting conditions—including extreme low light—producing images with enhanced details, color and clarity.

P30 pro is available at Rs 1, 19,900 and P30 costs Rs 84,900, while P30 Lite carries a price tag of Rs 39,990.

It would be good to be creative and relentless in all these efforts.”

But despite this recent progress, South Asian countries still export only one-third of their potential, and the gap is widening. The report estimates that the region’s export gap widened over time, standing at over 20 percent of GDP in 2017, as South Asia did not fully take advantage of a favorable international global trade environment and remained on the margins of global value chains.

In Nepal, GDP growth is projected to average 6 percent over the medium term. The services sector is forecast to benefit from strong tourism and manufacturing will be supported by the opening of Nepal’s largest cement factory next year.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-04-08', 'modified' => '2019-04-08', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10160', 'image' => '20190408014007_Clipboard01.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-04-08 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 5 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10404', 'article_category_id' => '266', 'title' => 'New Year Scheme of Hero', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'April 8: Nepal General Marketing, the authorised distributor of Hero motorcycles in Nepal, has announced new scheme for the Nepali New Year 2076. The company unveiled P30 Pro, P30 and P30 Lite amid a function held at Yak and Yeti Hotel on April 7. According to the company, the phones will be available for sales from April 12 in the market.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-04-08', 'modified' => '2019-04-08', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10156', 'image' => '20190408104120_World Health Day 2019_2.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-04-08 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 9 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10403', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Hailstones Destroy Crops in Dailekh', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'April 8: Bel Nepali of Thatikadh Rural Municipality in Dailekh district has a seven-member family. However, the World Bank said in a statement that the region needs to increase its exports to sustain its high growth and reach its full economic potential

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2019-04-08', 'modified' => '2019-04-08', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '10156', 'image' => '20190408104120_World Health Day 2019_2.jpg', 'article_date' => '2019-04-08 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '20' ) ), (int) 9 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '10403', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Hailstones Destroy Crops in Dailekh', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'April 8: Bel Nepali of Thatikadh Rural Municipality in Dailekh district has a seven-member family. She was hopeful of a good harvest this season.

She was eager to prepare delicacies of wheat for her husband who was to arrive home this month, after six months stay in India, to celebrate the festival of Chaite Dashain.

But her hopes were dashed by the recent hailstones that damaged crops in her village as well as the neighbouring Chamunda Municipality.

Not only her but almost all the farmers in western Dailekh faced the same problem this season.
