February 1 : Participants of a panel discussion on the topic “Facing our Time’ stressed the need for changing our energy consumption and behavior pattern and for new government policies in the current context.

Speaking at the event organised by the French Embassy in Kathmandu on Thursday, January 31, one of the panelists, Shiwani Neupane, said that the incubation and innovation should be backed by government policies.

Likewise, Camille Hanesse, the founder of Cosy Nepal, linked heritage conservation to employment and remarked that heritage conservation is a great opportunity for young people in terms of job creation.

Atmospheric scientist Arnico Panday said that with accelerating activities and consumerism, we have limited time to stabilize the climate. Therefore, a major switch is needed in our energy consumption and behavior pattern, which can be a major business opportunity for emerging ventures, he said.

According to a statement issued by the French Embassy, the attendees included heads of missions and representatives from various embassies, senior officers from the Government of Nepal, researchers, students, and media representatives.

The French Embassy said that the event was organised in collaboration with Nepal Economic Forum and the Alliance Française “to stimulate thinking and get the ideas and knowledge flowing”.

The event was held to commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relation between Nepal and France.
