February 1: Nepal’s first-ever ‘Ice Climbing Festival’ is scheduled to kick off on February 2 at Humde of Manag. The nine-day event which will conclude on February 10 is being organised with the objective to develop ‘ice climbing’ as a new tourism attraction for the Visit Nepal Year 2020.</p>
<p>
The organiser, Nepal Climbing Team, said that the main aim of the festival is to promote Nepal’s tourism destinations at the national and international levels. The organiser claimed that the festival is being held for the first time in Nepal to disseminate the message that ice climbing can be done in any season. The organisers believe this will help in promoting tourism.</p>
<p>
Bishnu Tamang of the organising committee said that the event will help in promoting adventure tourism as well. He said the event will impart positive message that ice climbing can be enjoyed in any season throughout the year while it will be a new product for the Visit Nepal Year 2020.</p>
<p>
Krishna Kumar Aryal of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) said that the event will help in developing Nepal as a destination for ice climbing.</p>
<p>
The festival is promoted by NTB. The estimated cost of the event is said to be around Rs 1.8 million. </p>
