January 23: Rainfall as well as snowfall have been taking place in most parts of the country due to the influence of the westerly winds, according to a news report published by Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS).

The rain brought by the westerly winds in the western parts of the country since Monday night has reached the central and eastern parts, meteorologist Sameer Shrestha told RSS.

According to him, this trend will continue through Wednesday night with a brief respite in the afternoon.

The weather will be cloudy throughout the day across the country including the Kathmandu Valley with the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in most of the places.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has stated that the high hills surrounding the Kathmandu Valley including Phulchoki and Chandragiri received snowfall.

Similarly, snowfall is taking place in the high mountainous areas of western Nepal. This weather system will prevail until Thursday in the western parts of the country. It is said the precipitation will continue until some more days.

Meteorologist Shrestha said that although this system will diminish for a day on Thursday, it will again become active from Friday triggering more precipitation.

The RSS reported that the temperature will further plummet increasing the cold as rainfall and snowfall are occurring in most parts of the country. The minimum temperature in Kathmandu had dropped to zero degree Celsius this year. Shrestha however said that the temperature in the Valley will not drop to sub-zero degree despite an increase in cold due to the rain. Kathmandu received 8.1 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday.
