<p>“According to the newly amended Civil Codes, it is strictly prohibited to release liquid wastes in the river other than the water used for the drinking purposes. I have filed a case to take action against those companies and Birgunj Metropolitan City for polluting the Srisiya River,” he said. </p>
<p>Kurmi has said that the metropolis and the companies have mixed the liquid wastes into the river without treatment. In the petition, he has mentioned that the factories and the metropolis should be fined Rs 5,000 and should serve a jail sentence of six months for breaching the codes.</p>
<p>Among the 10 factories, five are leather factories. The Birgunj Metropolitan City has mixed the sewage directly to the river without any treatment.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, every year, the District Administration Office (DAO) issues directive not to mix liquid waste in the river during the Chhath festival. This year too, the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Parsa has issued directive to not mix liquid wastes into the river.</p>

<p>Advocate Surendra Kurmi filed the case against Birgunj Metropolitan City and the factories at Parsa District Court for releasing waste matter into the Srisiya River.</p>
<p>Talking to New Business Age, advocate Kurmi said that the case has been filed as per the provision in the Civil Codes (Muluki Ain).</p>
<p>“According to the newly amended Civil Codes, it is strictly prohibited to release liquid wastes in the river other than the water used for the drinking purposes. I have filed a case to take action against those companies and Birgunj Metropolitan City for polluting the Srisiya River,” he said. </p>
<p>Kurmi has said that the metropolis and the companies have mixed the liquid wastes into the river without treatment. In the petition, he has mentioned that the factories and the metropolis should be fined Rs 5,000 and should serve a jail sentence of six months for breaching the codes.</p>
<p>Among the 10 factories, five are leather factories. The Birgunj Metropolitan City has mixed the sewage directly to the river without any treatment.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, every year, the District Administration Office (DAO) issues directive not to mix liquid waste in the river during the Chhath festival. This year too, the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Parsa has issued directive to not mix liquid wastes into the river.</p>
