July 26: Gandaki Province has announced the winners of Gandaki State-level Open Photography Contest organised by the provincial government. The Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Environment of Gandaki Province said it organised the photo contest in coordination with Nepal Tourism Board to promote tourism of the state, which is rich in natural beauty.  

Photographers from across the country had sent their photos for the photography competition which was held with the technical support from Photo Journalism Club. According to PJ Club, the open photography competition was divided into two categories - tourism activity and tourism destination.

Merit Maharjan won the award for the best photography in tourism activity segment. He was followed by Dev Dangol and Aditya Chand. Dev Dangol won the consolation price in the category.

Likewise, Prakash Budathoki won the award for the best tourism destination photography. Udim Shakya won the second prize and Gahendra Gurung third. Similarly, Shirish BC won the consolation price.

The competition managed by PJ Club accepted photos for the competition via online submission from July 3 to 21. The organizers had received 485 pictures in total for both categories including 119 photos under tourism activity category and 339 for tourism destination.

The panel of judges comprised of Diwar Poudyal, secretary of trade, tourism and environment ministry for Gandaki Province; Surya Thapaliya, chairman of Pokhara Tourism Board; Bikash Karki, president of PJ Club; Krishna Mani Baral, former chairman of Kaski chapter of PJ Club; and Bijay Gajmer, photo journalist at Nagarik Daily .

The winners in each category received cash prize of Rs 30,000,  Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 along with the award.
