April 18: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Tuesday, April 17,  set a ceiling for cash transaction through digital payment systems.

Issuing a circular, the central bank said the limit has been set at Rs 100,000 for debit cards. Earlier, the debit card users were allowed to withdraw only Rs 50,000 per day.

With the new provision, credit cards can be used to withdraw Rs 500 to Rs 25,000 at a time. Likewise, the transaction limit is Rs 100,000 per month.

Similarly, the prepaid cardholders can do transactions of a minimum of Rs 500 to Rs 10,000 in Nepal. Meanwhile, the monthly limit is Rs 50,000.

The central bank has also set a ceiling on money transfer via internet banking system. With the new provision, a total of Rs 100,000 can be transferred from one bank to another bank via internet banking service. Likewise, the central bank has set monthly limit of Rs 1 million for such transfers.

The central bank has also set ceiling for digital mobile payment system. According to the new provision, per transaction limit for e-payment has been set at Rs 5,000, and daily and monthly limits have been set at Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
