Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri handed a cheque equivalent to Rs 230.73 million to Devendra Karki, secretary at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Infrastructure amidst a function in Singha Durbar on July 19.</p>
<p>“The amount has been released as 25% of tendered cost (including 10% mobilization advance) of the two contracted road stretches namely Maisthan-Gaushalabazaar-Samsi Road and Birendrabazaar-Yadukuha-Mahinathpur Road being implemented under the Postal Highway Project in Nepal,” reads a press statement issued by the Indian Embassy.</p>
<p>According to the Embassy of India, the government of India has pledged Rs 8,000 million for the construction of Postal Highway.</p>
<p>So far, the construction of two road sections of the Postal Highway including Dhangadhi-Bhajaniya-Satti road and Lamki-Tikapur-Khakraula road has been completed with the Indian government’s grant assistance worth Rs 1,020 million, reads the statement. The construction works started on January 19 this year from Dhangadhi.</p>
<p>According to the press statement, the government of India has been supporting infrastructure development of Nepal and has provided financial assistance for construction of various highways, roads, bridges, airports, etc as part of its multi-sectoral and multi-dimensional India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme since 1950.</p>
