January 19: Repair of the dam area of the under construction Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower project which was destroyed by the devastating earthquake of April 25, 2015 has now started.

The construction works of dam area halted due to the disruption in the access road caused by the earthquake, took a pace after the construction of the tunnel road to the project.

Sino Hydro, the main civil constructor of the project re-started the construction of the dam area under Lot-1 which was completed by 90 per cent earlier, said Dr. Ganesh Neupane, Spokesperson of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project.

The concreting task in the 'Gate Hub' of the left side started under the dam construction which started with a new working schedule, said the project.

Dr Neupane informed that the installation of the gate used for the dam and related technology has also started. According to him, repair of dam, de-sander basin, installation of water controlling gates and other tasks have also been started.

Previously, the consultant of the project had informed that the 60 meter long and 22 meter high dam bogged down by17 centimetres during the earthquake. "Lahmeyer, the consultant company of the project has suggested using grouting technology to repair the sinkholes of the dam caused by the sink," said Neupane.

According to the concerned employees of the project, the project under construction in Lamabagar of Dolakha district might generate 456 MW of electricity before its new completion schedule.
