December 22: Global Adventure and Mountaineering Conference and Expo (GAMCE) 2017 will be held from March 31 to April 2 in Kathmandu. The expo is being organised by House of Rajkarnikar under the patronage of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Nepal Mountaineering Association, Indian Mountaineering Foundation and China Mountaineering Association. 

The expo will be showcasing services related to adventure and expedition travels, adventure sports gears and accessories such as canoes, raftsa, kayaks, mountain-bikes, dirt bikes, parachutes, para-gliders, skis, skateboards,  surfboards, fishing gears along with mountaineering harnesses, adventure sportswear and accessories and outdoors products.

Speaking in the press conference, Birendra Rajkarnikar, Managing Director of House of Rajkarnikar said that Nepal located amid near East Asia and south East Asia is epicenter of future adventure growth. “As per the World Trade Organisation (WTO) statistics, in compare to general tourism of five percent from 2010 to 2013, adventure tourism has increased by 195 percent to USD 263 billion globally in same period,” he said. He added that adventure tourism is expected to grow exponentially given the tourism projection of 1.8 billion arrivals in 2030. Meanwhile, Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of NTB mentioned that the expo is going to be worthwhile for the people interested in the adventure tourism.

The conference held on December 21 focused on adventure as sports, adventure as tourism and adventure in the context of the environment. “Asia Pacific share of travel market is expected to grow from 22 percent to 30 percent in 2030. While the expenses of North America and Europe and intra-regional inbound tourism for Asia-Pacific is about 73 percent indicated of 400 million arrivals of tourists. South Asia has the highest growth rate of six percent six percent leading up to 2030,” reads a statement issued by the event’s organizer.
