<p style="text-align: justify;">Startkraft vice-president Utne said that the Nordic model focuses on leadership aspect and collaborative efforts of each individual team to deliver results. “The core principles of Nordic model that have allowed business sector to flourish are trust and equality on gender, wage and all other facet,” she shared, adding, “ Beside that tri-partite consensus building to bring in the civil society as a responsible stakeholder is an example Nepal can adopt from the Nordic Countries.” She mentioned that Nordic model of business management relies on key elements of trust, respect, gender equality and group consensus, thereby creating a work environment free of power struggles ultimately increasing productivity of the institutions. She suggested using this model in the context of Nepal to reduce labour related problems.</p>

In a discussion programme organised by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in the capital on December 13, Kjell Tormod Peterson, Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal said that adoption of business management style used in corporate and public institutions in the Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland) can be helpful in driving innovations in Nepal. “Nordic countries too were plagued by inefficiencies in the past but due to their focus on innovation and drive to inculcate social benefit to create a welfare state that supports development projects and innovative enterprises,” he mentioned.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The discussion revolved around the issues of productivity from both the private and public sector business and how the Nordic countries have been able to engrain the value of transparency and accountability in presence of good governance. The event which observed participation of people from enterprise sector, intellectuals from labor union and representatives from several NGOs and INGOs included a panel discussion and a question answer session from the participants.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ambassador Kjell Tormond Peterson, Tima Lyer Utne, Senior Vice-President of Norwegian international hydropower company Statkraft, Ramesh Badal, Secretary of Foreign Affairs at General Federations of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) and Barsha Shrestha, Infrastructure Head of Chaudahary Group participated in the panel discussion which was moderated by Sherpa Adventure Gear Ashutosh Tiwari.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Startkraft vice-president Utne said that the Nordic model focuses on leadership aspect and collaborative efforts of each individual team to deliver results. “The core principles of Nordic model that have allowed business sector to flourish are trust and equality on gender, wage and all other facet,” she shared, adding, “ Beside that tri-partite consensus building to bring in the civil society as a responsible stakeholder is an example Nepal can adopt from the Nordic Countries.” She mentioned that Nordic model of business management relies on key elements of trust, respect, gender equality and group consensus, thereby creating a work environment free of power struggles ultimately increasing productivity of the institutions. She suggested using this model in the context of Nepal to reduce labour related problems.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, GEFONT foreign secretary Badal opined that the model is not applicable here given the unlike contexts of labour and business of Nepal and Nordic nations. Speaking about the contemporary log jams in collective bargaining that have plagued Nepal’s industrial and service sector for a long time, he said that wage equality and social benefits for human resource working within an industry must not differ to motivate the workers for optimum productivity.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Speaking at the programme, Chaudhary Group infrastructure head Barsha Shrestha focused on the importance of human capital in the service and the manufacturing sectors. “Stand of labour unions should shift from making ambiguous promises to address all the need of the employers to practice healthy collective bargaining," she stressed.</p>
