December 12: National Tea and Coffee Development Board (NTCDB) has set minimum support price for different grades of coffee for the current FY. The Board informed of determining the price of raw coffee that came into effective from November 16.

According to the NTCBD, organic proved ‘A’ grade fresh cheery coffee is priced Rs 83 per kilogram while ‘B’ grade coffee cost Rs 78 per kilogram. Similarly, processed and 12 percent moist ‘A’ grade parchment coffee has been priced Rs 415 per kilogram. Likewise, ‘B’ graded parchment coffee cost Rs 400 per kilogram.

In the same way, ‘A’ grade dry cherry coffee cost Rs 140 and ‘B’ grade coffee cost Rs 100 per kilograms. Also, ‘C’ grade dry cherry coffee cost Rs 40 per kg.

Currently, 41 districts of mid-hill regions including Kaski, Palpa and Lamjung are producing coffee. As per the statistics, the demand of Nepali coffee in international market is 700 to 800 metric tonnes annually, however, Nepal is only able to supply eight percent of the total demand. Nepal is producing around 500 metric tonnes of coffee annually.
