December 9: Indian monopoly in internet bandwidth on Nepal has finally ended with the signing of MoU between Nepal Telecom (NT), the state-owned telecommunication service provider and China Telecom Global Limited (CTG). It is the first time that the country signed an agreement with third country in order to deliver IP service in Nepal. CTG will be providing IP service in Nepal through the terrestrial cable route linking Nepal and China via Rasuwa-Jilong gateway.

Lochan Lal Amatya, chief technical officer NT and Yan Ou executive president of CTG executive signed the MoU regarding the matter in a program organised in Hong Kong on December 6.

In the program, Amatya said that NT would benefit through the terrestrial cable route. He also expressed hope that the CTG would provide a reliable service and that Nepal could be established as a transit hub for it.

Similarly, Yan said that CTG has been expanding its service into the Himalayan area and that China-Nepal route could provide service to Nepal and transit service from India.
