November 20: More than 200MW electricity will be generated from Eastern Region in the next three years. According to sources at various projects, the amount of electricity, apart from 762MW Tamor project, will be generated based on the forwarded projects and surveys carried out by the private sector. Various companies are forwarding hydropower projects producing the stated amount of power in Taplejung, Panchthar and Illam of Mechi Zone.

The 5MW and 13MW electricity generated from Fawa Khola Hydropower Project and Mewa Khola Hydropower Project of Taplejung is being connected to central transmission line within the current year. Similarly, a total of 72.5MW power jointly   15MW from Upper Hewa Khola of Panchthar, 22.5MW from Lower Hewa Khola of Taplejung and 38MW from Kabeli Project, 25MW from Kabeli B-1 and 10MW from Ewa Khola Project are in power generating process. Among them, 15MW power generated from Upper Hewa Khola 'A' is in transmission test phase.

Likewise, Himal Dolakha Hydropower Company is generating 4MW power from various rivers of Illam. Moreover, the companies including Jogmai, Upper Mai, Joshi Hydropower is working towards generating 7.5MW, 17MW, 7.35MW electricity respectively. As per the officials of these projects, upon conclusion of these projects, the eastern region will be self-sufficient in electricity.
