September 6: Advertising Association of Nepal (AAN) has demanded to implement the quick implementation Clean Feed Policy-2073 removing the deadline of one year which the government had set earlier. In an interaction programme organised by AAN on September 5, Monday, stakeholders expressed that there is not difficulty in implementing the Policy if the government, advertising association and stakeholders follows the policy and laws seriously.  Stakeholders claimed that the one year deadline of the work plan scheduled by Ministry of Information and Communication (MoIC) would only be a waste of time.

“We felt it as a gift when the previous government approved the Clean Feed Policy. It should be implemented immediately as the road map has already been prepared,” said AAN President Santosh Shrestha in the interaction programme which was participated by advertising entrepreneurs, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Nepal Media Society (NMS) and media personalities.

Former Prime Minister KP Oli led cabinet on July 22 approved the Clean Feed Policy. Advertising entrepreneurs have been rejoicing after the government announcement to implement the policy as it can bring substantial change and help Nepali Ad industry achieve a sharp growth.

As per the AAN, the implementation of the policy is important not only to improve the advertising industry, increase the revenue and generating employment but also to control the cultural interference which is happening through foreign advertisements. Citing Nepal as a market of multinational companies, President Shrestha said that the Nepali TV broadcasters and advertising agencies have long demanded the 'Clean Feed' broadcast of foreign TV Channels in Nepal.

The government has prepared a calendar list including conduction interaction with the stakeholders, amending the National Broadcast Regulation, 2052 along with formulating separate regulations for TV signals and cable distribution by mid-February. The government plans to complete the formulation of rules and structure for the overall ad creation, distribution, publishing and broadcasting by mid-April targeting to fully implement the policy from July 16, 2017.
