July 29: Frost & Sullivan, a US-based consulting firm, has organised a seminar on Nepali economy, industry, and growth opportunities on July 28 in the capital. The firm which has been providing services such as market research, analysis and growth strategy consulting in 40 countries organised the event as a part of a series of briefings on emerging markets.  

Speaking at the program, Manoj Menon, Senior Partner and Managing Director, Asia Pacific of Frost & Sullivan said, “Nepal’s present commitment to manufacturing sector expansion, power situation improvement, and transport infrastructure development will go a long way in enhancing its investment potential.” However, he added, “Investors, without a doubt, will be keenly observing how Nepal works its way through the present political instabilities.”

Dynamics and emerging opportunities across the key growth industries of hydropower and tourism were discussed in the seminar. “Foreign investment is keenly being encouraged in the hydropower sector as a means to help improve the country’s dismal power situation,”said the firm in a press statement.

The presentation opened with an evaluation on Nepal’s economy evolvement with the key takeaways such as the country’s possible graduation beyond least-developed country (LDC) status by 2021. Similarly, the seminar also focused on issues such as development of special economic zones (SEZs) and greater facilitation of private investments in infrastructure development with public-private partnership (PPP) policy.

In the webinar, Aroop Zutshi, Global President and Managing Partner and Manoj Menon, Senior Partner and Managing Director, Asia Pacific of Frost & Sullivan presented an overview of Nepal’s evolution and growth plans. Likewise, former Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat and other speakers viewed the future of Nepal, government priorities and investment opportunities. Similarly, Padma Jyoti, Chairman of Jyoti Group and Abhimanyu Poddar, Managing Director of Surya Nepal shared insights on their growth stories in Nepal.
