July 7: The data collection of earthquake damaged households will start from mid-July in the three districts of Kathmandu Valley. Like in other affected districts, Central Statistics Bureau (CBS) is collecting data for reconstruction of individual homes damaged by the disaster. “The survey will be different from other districts,” said Dr Rudra Suwal, Deputy Director General of CBS, adding, “We will be collecting data only of red stickered houses.” In other districts, data were collected from all kinds of households.

The detailed household survey of other eleven districts which were badly hit by the earthquake had been already concluded. The distribution of money in relief aid has already been started by National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) in these areas. According to survey of Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA), there are more than 115,000 earthquake victims in the valley.  However, the CBS predicts that the number may increase to 150,000 on the base of the complaints that have risen in the recent months. As per the Bureau, it will be providing training to 500 social workers, 500 engineers and 50 supervisors from June 9 to 15.

The government has selected 533,058 homes as advantage seekers from the 11 districts. “Out of this number, agreement with 220,000 households for the aid of has already been finalized,” informs Ram Prasad Thapaliya, Spokesperson of NRA. According to him, the agreed 26,986 homes have already received money in first installment.

Meanwhile, NRA has demanded Rs 10 billion additional fund to Ministry of Finance (MoF) for the distribution of money. MoF has already dispensed Rs 35 billion for the purpose.
