Although production of domestic medicine has increased in recent time, it has not been able to replace the foreign medicines. According to the Association of Pharmaceutical Producers of Nepal (APPON), domestic medicine industries occupy only 45 percent of total medicine market in Nepal. APPON claims of producing nearly 300 types of medicines domestically. The association informs of producing medicines including injectibles and slines. Domestic industries have not been able to supply as per the demand of the market although it has grown by half-fold in a decade. Medicine import has soared due to inability of the government in promoting domestic industries,” says domestic Pharmaceuticals Producers.
