June 2: Private sector are excited on the newly made government’s decision of declaring industrial sector strike free zone and taking action against those who forcefully conduct closure in the industrial sector. The private sector has also welcomed the government’s decision of making the strikers pay compensation on the losses occurred due to the closure. The private sector believed that the step taken by the government will improve the industrial environment of the country.

The government has prohibited closure in industrial area, project area and public offices in the budget of FY 2073/74. The budget mentions “By neglecting strike free zone, if anyone organise closure, organisers will have to compensate the losses occurred due to obstruction in traffic and transportation of construction material. Similarly, they will have to pay compensation for damages occurred due to hindrance in working schedule of industrial organisation and projects or damages on physical assets.”

“The government has addressed and given legal frame work to the private sector’s demands that was remained pending since one and a half decade,” says Hari Bhakta Sharma, Chairman of Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI). “The address made by the government in the budget is positive in the context that nothing has been done related with the matter. Furthermore, the government should not be late in implementing it by formulating required policy,” he added.
