Khan Bags Surya Nepal Masters

Rashid Khan won the Surya Nepal Masters 2011, held in Kathmandu during April 13-17. In the tournament held at Gokarna Golf Club, Khan made a card of 268 on 20 rounds. Khan, an Indian golfer from Delhi pocketed Rs 646,000 as the winner’s cheque. Constituent Assembly Chairman Subhash Chandra Nemwang presented the awards to the winners on April 17. Similalry, Mithun, another Indian golfer, stood second and won Rs 446,000 while Nepal’s Shivaram Shrestha came third to win Rs 250,000. Mandiv Singh Pathania and Harindra Gupta, both from India were tied for the fourth position.
 
This was the 18th edition of Surya Nepal Masters and had a record prize money of Rs 4 million. The event is sponsored by Surya Nepal under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative branded ‘Surya Nepal Khelparyatan’.
 
In the Pro-Am tournament under the tour held as a the precursor to the Masters tournament, Raju Ali Mollah and his team with Dorji Sherpa, Khushi Ram Gurung and Prem Gurung won the title with 27 points. The game was reduced to nine holes and played under team scramble format after heavy rain. Gurbaaz Mann’s team and amateurs Niraj Pun, Aditi Ghimire and Michael Kollmair finished second after a five-way tie with 26 points. Rafick Ali and his team of amateurs Rabin Rana and Kishan Agrawal came third.
 
Sujit Mundul, the CEO of Standard Chartered Bank, LB Singh, the Marketing Vice-President of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd and Vinode SJB Rana, the President of Nepal Golf Association awarded the winners on April 13.
 
More than 100 golfers including 11 pros participated in the event sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank.
