April 6: Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) has become the first commercial bank in Nepal to use the digital signature and certificate. Bank has penned a deal with Nepal Certifying Company (NCC) to deliver digital signature and certificate. The agreement was signed by Gorakh Rana, Head of Commercial Banking & International Clients of Standard Chartered and Biplav Man Sigh, Chairman of NCC on behalf of their respective organisations.

SCB is planning to implement digital signature and certificate in phases for authentication of communication/documents originating from its client’s which will depend on the regulatory provisions. SCB has been drawn closer to its digitization agenda with this agreement as digital signature and certificate will helps to eliminate manual interventions in improving client experience.  Bank expects to reduce the risk of repudiation with the availability & usage of digital signature and certificate as it allows accepting transactional & other related documents from clients through electronic medium.

In the occasion, Joseph Silvanus, CEO of SCB expressed his happiness for having pioneered in acquiring digital signature and certificate amongst other banks in Nepal. He mentioned that it had opened a gateway for the Bank in transacting with clients efficiently through a secure mode.

Similarly, Biplav Man Singh, Chairman of NCC said NCC aims to promote digital signature and certificate an efficient and effective medium for authentication and security of online transactions.

NCC has been working to implement digital signature and certificate all over the country and replacing papered activities. Digital signature and certificate is a data with digital signature from one trusted Certification Authority (CA).
