December 21: A remote village in Jajarkot district has produced oranges worth Rs 5 million this year.

Damdala village of Dhime VDC-1 in the district witnessed rise in orange production this year, the farmers told a team of government officials, journalists and politicians that reached the village recently from the district headquarters.

The farmers have grown oranges in nearly 100 hectares of land in Damdala, the village known as the pocket area for orange production. It is learnt that each household in this remote village has produced oranges worth Rs 150,000 to Rs 1 million.

Shakti Bahadur Oli, a leading orange farmer, said that they have been supplying the fruit to the market despite lack of better market opportunity and poor road network to the village.

He shared that he made Rs 1 million income this year by selling oranges. As high as 200 households in the village have opted for orange farming and the number is on the rise, he added.

Likewise, Karna Bahadur Thapa also said that he earned Rs 300,000 from orange production. He, however, said that they have lot of difficulties to supply the goods to the market.

On the occasion, the farmers of the Damdala have asked the officials to work for managing proper market to ensure better business of the oranges. RSS
