Pandit is 'Mountain Adventure Sports National Hero'

November 1: The National Sports Council has honoured the record-holder world mountaineer and ultra marathon runner Sanjaya Pandit with the title, 'Mountain Adventure Sports National Hero'.

NSC Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista today honoured Pandit with 25 thousand rupees and a copper plaque on behalf the Council.

According to the NSC, Pandit has been honoured to further motivate him and in recognition to the significant role he has played in making the country known in the international arena by climbing the highest mountains in all the continents, except Antarctica.

Pandit started his mountaineering career by climbing Mt Everest and Mt Manaslu, which is considered the most formidable mountain for climbers. Later on, he went on to scale Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain peak in Africa, Mt Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe, Mt Kosciuszko, the highest mountain peak in Australia, Mt Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America, Mt Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan and Mt Denali, the highest mountain in America.

Now, Pandit aims to summit the Mt Vinson Massif, the highest mountain in Antarctica by the end of this year. RSS
