Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) programme is an academic course that provides effective managerial skills and insights to its students. There has been an increase in demand for MBA graduates following the boom witnessed by the financial and industrial sectors around the world. Students are increasingly aspiring for enrolling themselves in this course considering the employment opportunities that are available in this sector. Tribhuvan University School of Management’s (SOMTU) MBA programme is considered to be one of the best courses available in Nepal. The institution claims of having best teaching standards and industry-focused curriculum that produces capable and efficient professionals. 
 
TU School of Management (SOMTU) 
SOM TU envisages implementing the MBA programme professionally and promises to have academically qualified faculty members that have professional exposure and experience, among others. The Working Procedure Regulations 2066 BS governs the institute’s working procedures while providing it a full autonomous status. The SOM Governing Board is the apex body that is authorized to determine all academic, administrative, and financial policy of this school.
 
SOM MBA Programme
SOM’s MBA programme is a full time course that focuses on developing managerial and entrepreneurial capabilities of students through curricular and co-curricular activities. It specifically aims to prepare professional managers for business and non-business sectors. Along with that, the course aims to develop entrepreneurs that will be capable of evaluating risks and taking on challenges in emerging global business environment. Every SOM MBA grad will have the knowledge, skill, and attitude necessary for developing scientific approach towards business, being result oriented, and being socially responsive management professionals.
 
The programme has 60 credit hours with components that involve course work, seminars, practicum, experiential learning, and graduate research project.The total duration of the programme is 2 years and is spread over four semesters. 
 
Student Intake
Madhav Raj Koirala, Director of the SOM, says, not all aspiring students manage to get into the SOM MBA programme, though they receive overwhelming number of applications in every admission session.
Student intake for the MBA programme takes place twice a year. The spring intake begins from the month of January for the February – June semester, while the fall intake begins from July for the August – December semester.SOM takes a total of 35 students of which 5 seats are reserved for corporate sponsorships and foreign students. Corporate and foreign students must secure a minimum of 60 percent in the written entrance test (SOMAT) for contending in this quota. 
 
Eligibility
The applicant to the MBA programme must have a minimum of 15 years’ formal education (12 years of schooling plus three years of graduation). And with that, s/he must have secured a minimum CGPA of 2.0 or 45 percent in Bachelor’s level.

The SOM MBA curriculum has a local focus with a global perspective. Comparatively, TU’s MBA curriculum is not much different from others. The difference is the means and mode of delivering the course. Teaching faculties, teaching techniques, field exposures are the things that can differentiate TU’s MBA from others. The SOMTU has a host of experienced and seasoned faculty members that includes professors and associate professors with doctorate degrees, long experience in teaching, research and consulting, along with other professionals that have tremendous experience in their respective field.
 
We provide two special courses to our students: Practicum Course and Seminar Course. These courses aim to provide specific skills and knowledge to the students that other general MBA courses do not provide. 
 
Our students have greater exposure to industry where they inculcate essential skills to tackle real time issues. This exposure is coupled with research, seminars and experiential learning. These components enable them to be leaders in their professions.
