TU Holds 39th Convocation Ceremony 
Tribhuvan University (TU) organized its 39th convocation ceremony on Friday, 27th December at the Dashrath Stadium in capital. Around 6,722 students from various streams including humanities and social sciences, education, science and technology, forestry, that were included in the grace participated in the convocation.
A total of 51 students including 34 from humanities, seven from science and technology, one from law, two from education and seven from management stream received doctorate degree this year. Khil Raj Regmi, Chairman of the Interim Election government and Chancellor of the TU, handed awards to students who excelled in their respective area of study.  
 
HSEB Publishes Re-total Result
The Exam Controller Division of theHigher secondary Education Board (HSEB), Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, published the re-total result of grade 12 Science, of both regular and partial exams, on Friday, 26th December. Students can collecttheir mark sheet after 10 days by producing their original transcript/mark sheet.
 
Higher Education for Rs 100
A private school in Bouddha has decided to provide higher education to students for Rs 100 per month. Samata College, an education institution in Bouddha, Kathmandu, will be launching this initiative from this academic session. 
 
The college launched the scheme with an aim to provide quality education to low-income students. The college, affiliated to Tribhuvan University has formally started its four-year management program and three-year program under humanities faculty. The college was inaugurated on Wednesday, 24th December.
 
Interview of Secondary Level School Teachers Cancelled
TSC was scheduled to take the interview of the applicants who passed the written selection exams conducted by it last month. CIAA on Wednesday directed TSC to halt the interview process in response to a complaint that irregularities were committed in the announcement of the results of the written tests. Under-Secretary at TSC, Narayan Bhattarai, said that the commission’s employees who were deputed to conduct the tests at different regional education directorates have started returning Kathmandu after the interview was postponed. However, different teachers’ unions have demanded that TSC go ahead with the interview and only put on hold the interview of the regions where the alleged irregularities have reportedly taken place, rather than postponing the interview in all the regions. HSEB Overhauls Examination System
Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) has brought into use the mark-slip with barcode. Making reforms in the ten plus two examination system, the HSEB has introduced barcode in answer sheet and optical mark reader, said Acting Examination Controller Durga Aryal. He claimed the new system would bring about reform in examination system resolving loopholes seen in the past. Aryal further said students would be provided with registration certificate immediately after scanning their photo and signature used in the registration form of grade 11. It would help check fake students appearing in the examination and preparation of fraud educational certificate, he added.  
 
The HSEB has come up with a plan to use Virtual Private Network system to develop transcript, migration and provisional certificates, which is expected to end the malpractice of making fake certificates. He further informed that the HSEB has introduced computer billing system to manage the income of the institution. Among other reforms brought by the HSEB include early results of the examinations, arrangement of well-equipped printer for print-outs of mark ledger and mark sheets. (RSS)
