New Terminal Opens at Goa Airport
A new integrated terminal building was inaugurated at Goa airport by Ajit Singh, Minister of Civil Aviation. The new terminal building capable of handling domestic and international operations offers facilities like passenger boarding bridges, inline compatible baggage handling system, software based building management system, elevators and escalators. With an investment of USD 55.2 million, the terminal building can handle 2,750 peak hour passengers at a time. Speaking on the occasion, Singh said, “Providing quality aviation infrastructure commensurate with the expected passenger traffic growth is high on priority of my ministry. Goa airport with 1,000 plus annual international charter flights account for almost 90% of India’s international charter tourist flights. In the year 2012-13, Goa airport handled 1,208 charter flights, an increase of 45% over the year 2011-12.” (Traveldailymedia.com)
 
IHG to Recruit 110,000 Staff in China
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has unveiled plans to recruit another 110,000 staff in China, as it looks to double its portfolio in the country. The company currently employs nearly 60,000 staff at its properties and corporate office across 70 Chinese cities. But with IHG’s portfolio expected to increase from 200 hotels at present to almost 400 in the coming years, IHG said it will need to recruit more than 110,000 employees between 2013 and 2015. 3rd International Conference on Tourism and Media
The impact of technological innovation and evolving media channels on tourism communication was the focus of the 3rd UNWTO International Conference on Tourism and the Media, part of an ongoing series aimed to lend tourism a higher level of editorial recognition (2-3 December 2013, Estoril, Portugal).Centered around the theme, “How new media is shaping the news”, the Conference addressed, among others, the issues of tourism in today´s media coverage, the new media environment, the emergence of bloggers as influential news sources, and the transversal impact of technology on all communication formats.
