IATO ConventionIATO Convention to Be Held in Kochi
The 29th annual convention on the Indian Association of Tour Operators in Kochi, Kerala next month will focus on innovation. The annual convention held at the Le Meridien Hotel from 8-11 September 2013 will be held under the theme ‘Tourism – Innovation and Partnership. Lally Mathews, co-chairman of the convention told Travel Daily that Social Media will have a special focus at the convention with foreign experts giving an insight at the business session. “Business sessions will also be held on crisis management and safety of tourists,” said Mathews. A New Asian Airline Launched
A new Asian airline is launched at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. Asia Atlantic Airlines will initially offer flights to Tokyo and Osaka with two Boeing 767-300ER aircrafts. It has further plans to launch flights from the Thailand airport to China, South Korea, Guam and Hawaii. The airline has been set up by Japan-based H.I.S Group and Thailand’s Baiyoke Group and aims to become a “dynamic new force” in Asia’s airline industry. Its customers will have access to a lounge dedicated immigration counters at Suvarnabhumi Airport.  (Traveldailymedia.com) 
 
Business Travel Spending to Grow Globally
Global business travel spending is expected to rise throughout 2013 and continue its ascent over the next several years, according to the latest installment of the GBTA BTI Outlook – Annual Global Report & Forecast, sponsored by Visa, Inc. Global spending on business travel is forecast to reach $1.12 trillion in 2013, a 5.4 per cent increase from 2012, with travel spend stabilizing after a year rocked by worldwide economic and political uncertainty. Steady business travel spending in the second half of 2013 is expected to lay the foundation for 8.2 per cent growth in 2014, followed by 7.6 per cent, 7.2 per cent and 7.1 per cent growth in 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively. The report, which details travel spending in 75 countries, along with the top industries, economic factors and characteristics that influence business travel, finds that developing markets around the world – particularly countries in the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions - will permanently reshape the business travel landscape.
