Maximum Participation A Must For Power Summit

The Independent Power Producers’ Association Nepal (IPPAN) is organising a Power Summit on August 26 and 27 this year, an event for hydropower developers. This is the 4th such event being organised by IPPAN and invitations have already been sent to investors and foreign delegates. The organisers expect the summit to create a favourable environment for the hydropower sector. The Corporate caught up with IPPAN representatives to find out about preparations for the event. IPPAN is deeply committed towards making the event successful. We are highlighting the importance and potential of hydropower this year and spreading the word to investors, representatives from different financial institutions and foreign delegations. We are expecting around 500 participants this year and believe that if we are able to attract more foreign participants, the summit could be considered successful. If we convince the foreign delegates of our project proposals, we will be attracting investment funds from them which will help implement hydropower projects more smoothly. Similarly, we are focused to convince the government too. The ongoing power shortage is halting the growth of the economy. The summit can help in creating an environment conducive for successful completion of all hydropower projects. We are trying our best to make it informative and useful.

I believe that there will be maximum participation to make the Power Summit successful. Earlier, many developers came for hydropower projects but they gradually vanished which was not good for the sector. Based on this, I would say that the summit will be successful if it is able to attract developers in a large number. At a time when the energy crisis is high, the summit should be able to address the prerequisites of the hydropower sector and convince the government, developers and investors. There should be qualified speakers and appropriate projects presented to make this possible. As political instability affects economic growth, the summit should address the issue of political commitment and legal and regulatory framework. It should also address the demands of developers. Similarly, various workshops focusing on core areas, like export-oriented projects with direct foreign investment and power market mechanism, will help make the summit successful.
