June 14: Stakeholders have suggested formulating a strategy for regulation and monitoring of digital media used by Nepal for tourism promotion and publicity. They suggested that the use of technology on ways to present content on social media should be regulated.

The stakeholders made such remarks at an interaction program titled 'Age of Technology in Tourism' organized by the Nepal Economic Forum in Kathmandu on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Nandani Thapa, senior director of Nepal Tourism Board, said that the development of technology has brought a change in the style of tourism publicity as well.

Similarly, Ramyata Limbu, director of the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF), said that digital media would be cheaper and less expensive for tourism promotion.

Similarly, Jason Shah, co-founder of Hostel Nextdor, said that there are a lot of young people who are promoting their destination by creating various blogs. He said that the tourism market in Nepal is huge and there are many opportunities.

Tourism expert Lisa Chvogyal said that there are still good opportunities in the tourism sector after Covid-19. Stating that Nepal has adventure tourism as well as many other famous destinations, she suggested bringing quality products and improving tourism services. She said that despite the increase in tourism activities like paragliding, it is necessary to pay attention to other changing aspects of tourism. She also stressed the need to analyze the impact of climate change from the perspective of tourism and prepare accordingly.

Ambika Khurana, Netflix's director of public policy, suggested that in addition to the use of technology, viewers should also pay attention to what topics attract them. "A story in a digital medium can only be sold if it connects with the minds of viewers and consumers," she said.
