August 18: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has commenced the construction of the Koholpur-Surkhet 132kV transmission line in Western Nepal. NEA, on its 36th anniversary on August 17, began the installation of a transmission line tower. The project will install a total of 161 towers along the Koholpur-Surkhet 132kV transmission line.

Krishna Khadka, a project engineer, informed that the foundation stone of the first tower was laid on August 17. The project is expected to be completed within two years.

After coming into operation, the transmission line is believed to bring relief to the people of Karnali who have been suffering from voltage fluctuation, Khadka said, adding that the contractor has already started the construction work and the project will be completed on time if there are no external obstructions.

The transmission line has been in operation in this region since 2045 BS. However, people in Karnali are excited about its capacity being extended to 132 kV.

According to the project office, the 51 km transmission line will be of double circuit. The total length of the transmission line is 51.46 km with 26 angle towers.

Likewise, the sub-station in Butwal is spread over 3.72 hectares of land.
