August 11: The main opposition party, the CPN-UML, has aggressively presented itself in the parliament and demanded a clear view from the government on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

UML parliamentary party leader KP Oli, who addressed the parliament for the first time after resigning from the post of prime minister, demanded an answer from the government.

Speaking on the rostrum after three years as the leader of the main opposition party, he said the lack of mentioning the MCC in the common minimum programme recently released by the current government had raised various doubts.

Stating that the government has the support of 165 MPs, Oli suggested that the MCC be submitted as it would be passed easily. Oli had said that MCC should have been passed while he was the Prime Minister.

The MCC has been stuck in parliament for a long time. Due to the inability of the parties to reach an agreement, the Speaker has not ratified the MCC agreement. The United States, one of Nepal's largest donors, has expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of approval.

Oli also said that Lipulek and Limpiyadhura were the holy lands of Nepal without any doubt. He objected to Lipulek and Limpiyadhura being described as "problematic" in the government's common minimum programme.

Oli also demanded an investigation into all past irregularities. "We request you to investigate the irregularities in the procurement of health items and to take action against those found guilty," Oli said.

He also urged the government to investigate the allegations that health supplies had been procured in the past and that the supplies were unused at various hospitals and airports.
