May 21: A total of seven chartered flights have been operated from Nepal in the last ten days, mainly to carry Indian nationals to various Middle-East countries from Kathmandu.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, seven chartered flights for passengers have been operated between May 10 and 19.

According to CAAN, Himalaya Airlines operated four flights, followed by Nepal Airlines (3), and Qatar Airways (1) during this period.

Himalaya Airlines operated a charter flight to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka, on May 10 and three chartered flights to King Fahd International Airport, Dammam, on May 18.

Likewise, Nepal Airlines operated a chartered flight to King Fahd International Airport, Dammam, and King Khalid International Airport, Riyad each on May 18 and 19.

Similarly, Qatar Airways took off from Kathmandu for Vnukovo International Airport, Moscow, on May 11.

Meanwhile, three evacuation flights were operated by three different foreign national flag carriers during this period.

Qatar Airway, Turkish Airlines, and PJSC Aeroflot operated an evacuation flight each on  16th, 17th, and 18th May to Doha, Istanbul, and Khimki respectively for evacuating foreigners from Nepal.

Likewise, CAAN has approved three additional evacuation flights scheduled for  May 22, 23, and 24.

Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines will be operating the evacuation flights from Kathmandu to Doha and Istanbul respectively.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and various media outlets have criticized airlines for charging exorbitant airfare for chartered flights.

Meanwhile, Himalaya Airlines has expressed its concern over the allegation.

The airlines wrote to New Business Age that it sold the air tickets as per the Global Distribution System to make it convenient for the passengers.

"To compete in agency services as well, any local travel agency registered with the International Aviation Industry Association (IATA) will be able to sell tickets and passengers will be able to buy tickets with a travel agency that suits them," a press statement of the airlines reads.

"All the tickets have been sold through the global ticket distribution system which is accessible to all the agencies and all the fares are also accessible to all the agencies through this system. The system is completely transparent and competitive between agencies, from which passengers can benefit from the quality of service and service charges. Since these flights have to carry one-way passengers, that is, the aircraft has to be brought back empty, it is natural that the fares will be proportionally higher than the regular flights," the statement further added.

Himalaya Airlines said it believes that agencies do not charge exorbitant fees. However, if an agency submits evidence of unduly excessive charges to a passenger, the airline company will recommend to the relevant regulatory body for necessary action.
